Dexter's Laboratory: Ego Trip Review 

Ego Trip was excellent and still kinda is. The entire premise speaks to the original seasons' format of big adventure stemming from a fairly ordinary curiosity, and it just picks up and runs from there. There's a couple bits that are lull-y, and Adult Dexter's public lashing was lingered a little uncomfortably, but the rest was killer. The music was especially memorable, especially when Doomsday Dexter appears first, he has a kickass hero theme! Movie also used that slightly running gag of the line, "Time travel, hmmm.." It also had a number of interesting concepts, like Overlord Mandark holding the world hostage in both way of life AND mentally. No easier prisoner to keep than one that keeps playin' with his toes and going, "Gaaad-ZOOKS, sarge!". What's more is in the utopian age with Old Man Dexter, who has most of the funniest lines, and keeping Mandark's brain in that museum around all of Dexter's achievements, its kind of like science nerd Hell in a way.. but eh, the dink had it coming. I like to watch it again now and then, because it was and is the best show from CN's golden age, and Genndy Tartakovsky is the MAN!

Sadly this movie was never re-released again, its only on VHS. Which is a shame, this was a fun movie and finale for the show. Cartoon Network have never been the best when it comes to releasing their beloved shows for home entertainment. They're getting better now a days but still not there yet, one day I love to own this movie again, but for now all I can find is what's on DailyMotion.

When you realize Buff Dexter is called Action Dexter, it's pretty much a reference to Dexter's idol, Action Hank.

Probably my general favorite episode is "Monstory." The one that's all about Mandark and every sound is in the pattern of his laugh is up there, too.

Ego Trip was the bidibambamb of my childhood!! Like the PPG movie, it's one movie/special that I never get tired of rewatching to this day! I totally agree with that flogging/whipping scene...not usually something you would see for children's programming XD

This movie was amazing. You should review the Rude Removal episode where Dexter went Adult humor.

I liked and enjoyed it, but I think it was kinda too dark at times. I mean, corporate Mandark tortured Dexter (which was a bit painful to watch) or Dexter of the future stripped away Mandark's body leaving only his brain. Dunno, maybe my younger self would've liked it more.

You know Dexter and the other Dexters could have just used that time machine to go back in time and stop Mandark from getting the proto-core in the first place, or better yet stop him from stealing Dexters ideas in the first place.

Ah, Ego Trip... It's funny. While I never hated Dexter's Lab by any means, it definitely wasn't my favorite of the original Cartoon Cartoons, not by a long shot. This movie though? I caught every single airing back in the day. I loved it to death. I remember some many years later I found Ego Trip at a video rental store and rented it. Watched it like three times. I came to a similar conclusion on rewatching it: Too short for its premise, but still overall an enjoyable experience. That was itself was a long time ago as well. Even though it isn't technically an episode, this is my number one pick without a doubt.

I wonder if this film inspired some of Kingdom Hearts' time travel plot points I rewatched this yesterday for the 1st time in 20 years and I definitely agree it feels a bit lackluster despite the fact that it had such a big premise being set up. It should've been 80 minutes long at least.

I think that Warner bros and paramount pictures and bad robot production should have JJ Abrams and his team should make an Dexter's laboratory live action adaption 3D movie and release it either in 2028 or 2029 and make some more and more sequels too it too

dexter's lab is the best thing of the 90s. yes awesome walter, you truly are awesome. (not a number 12). you got a new sub. best of luck with all. my favorite part of the movie is when dexter meets #12 after the first time jump and is thoroughly disappointed and disgusted with him. then finds the nuerotonic protocore. mandark yells over the intercom, "i don't hear typing". #12 shrieks. hahaha dex orders "stop the typing. stop the typing. STOP THE TYPING! [stomps on #12's hands]" this movie is easily one of my top 3 movies, and possibly the highest point of all humanity to be remembered. i was in college when it came to the family video (most of the movies were still vhs there). after spending 20 weeks with it (i kept renewing it) i copied it with a second vcr at home. and watched my copy until it went bad. mustve seen it at least 200 times over a 3 year period. no joke. sometimes 4 times a day. i shit you not. i love that little fucker like my own kids.

Ego Trip was and still is *100% Epic* ! Proper Dexter + Tom Baker "Golden Era" Doctor Who + Cyberpunk 2020 + Mad Max of all things! And it Worked! How Gennedy pulled that mix off I will never know! Proper madlad! It Could have done with being about 120 Minutes long rather than 50 however I agree! IIRC "Ego Trip" is Rated a BBFC 12 here in the UK while the Series is PG, so yeah, a lot higher rating as it is much more dark (Still CMOA in that scene when "12" finally Snaps and just beats the *Tar* out of Corporate Mandark!) , but still a lot lighter than Samurai Jack which could only be shown after 9PM here due it being Rated 18! 5 Years late I know, but Ego Trip is *included* with a *full HD Remaster* in the new Complete Series Boxset :)
