Dexterity AI today announced a collaboration with FedEx, to leverage AI-powered robotic technology to load boxes into trucks and trailers.
Learn More: dexterity.ai/p...
Truck loading has long been considered one of the most challenging tasks in parcel hubs. Manual loading is taxing and previous technology approaches have not been able to handle the complex decision making required to stack the wide range of shipments encountered in FedEx network, which vary in size, shape, weight, and packaging material.
Dexterity AI focuses on the complexity of truck loading by giving mobile robots a suite of intelligence ranging from the ability to see, touch, think, and move quickly to pack trailers with stable, dense walls of randomized boxes.

FedEx expects 300 boxes stacked in the truck per hour per employee in the outbound package handler position regardless of size or weight, whether a 4×4x2 inch box or as a another commenter posted a 149 lb box 8 ft x 3 ft x 4-6 inches thick... This thing needs to speed way up... FedEx loses millions and millions of dollars in damaged and stolen merchandise every year from employees alone, perhaps if they let folks slow down to this things speed, they wouldn't have so many damages and insurance claims! Truly incomprehensible when you witness the insanity...

300 that's it ??!! I was loading 1200 an hour back in 1991 at age 21. Kids today, will never work that hard!

Same thing with UPS but the thing is af ups each shift runs like 3-4 hrs, and they want every loader to do 300 boxes an hour. But these robots at this speed while they look really slow they can go at it for 24/7. Weekends, holidays, etc. I never thought I would see the day machine would replace humans when it comes to loading but even at this speed they are more functional it looks like. Like said they can go forever. While people can't.

@@clashofqueen93yes they can go for 24/7, but all packages have a due date especially Hots and 2 days, if it takes a robot an entire 24 hours to load a truck like this robot is doing then your packages are gonna be very Late and any company using this tech will lose millions bc of the late shipping, that’s not even including what happens if the robots break down ??? Bc UPS for example already uses practically Chinese Dollar store material that has to be replace Dailey and whole computer systems that are almost 40 years out of date, I work in one of there High tech Automated warehouses and there system breaks down all the time we’ve had a whole PD and PS shut down bc of a switching system that has already be replaced 5 times in the last 3 months, they don’t know what’s wrong with it and they’ve been waiting and working with the tech company that manufactured the system the whole time and they don’t know what’s wrong with it either 😂😂😂

Let's see it load 149.9lb box!

Just a matter of time, and probably not that much. Warehouses might need to be changed but robots will certainly be doing the bulk of unloading, stacking, and moving in 15 years, probably less.

@@jacobnunya808it will never happen. the robots will need to learn how to load tires sometime especially, 4 tires held together with straps😂, tubes, buckets, push mowers, catfish traps, anduch more. ribots will certain cost ups more than they save. our ceo is a moron.

I'm skeptical of technology that lifts boxes by sides other than the bottom. I envision lots high-density boxes with their contents strewn about if lifted from the top or side. Will this technology be able to compensate for packages that are drastically heavy off-center? This type package is typically placed with the heavy side toward the front of the trailer to keep the stack stable.

will they be able to stack tires, buckets, bags, tubes, axles, not to mention boxes bolts and nails that have lost the smooth box shape. our ceo is a criminal moron that should be fired along with whoever hired her.

There’s one problem here, these robots are WAYYYY TO SLOW At ups they get pissed when ever we can’t load 800 an hour when most of our trucks are getting hit with almost 1000 an hour, and most of the time packages get destroyed bc UPS doesn’t care about the product it’s shipping, the robot will still try and load the damaged and leaking packages which will then possible damage 1000 other packages if it’s a leaker

That's not how you build a wall with boxes. Signed, a guy that did it for five years and actually knew how to do it. First bump, that walls gone.

Notice how these "bragging" videos are always sped up and/or heavily edited? 🤔

Just like the Musk bot videos there is too much editing. Boston Dynamics has already set the bar when it comes to demos and they include the bloopers.

I seen a column and it’s not locked in on the right side to prevent shifting during transport. I give that wall a 2 out of the 10 load quality elements. That’s failing. Do better robot 😆.

i didn't see any tires, buckets, or tubes in there either. our ceo doesn't understand because her DA hasn't ever worked. she is a moron.

Way to slow! This would never work at UPS! Humans are much faster!

This is only the beginning and a prototype. The only safe jobs are those that are protected by government: Doctor, lawyer etc. Even if you could make a robot surgeon, it would not be legal for it to operate people.
@vikings844
@vikings844 Год назад
@@jimj2683 They have a few years before this can work at the speed FedEx and UPS need. Minimum 10 years or longer before that happens.
@jackdanson2

Yeah I got 25 years at UPS and could annihilate this thing in speed and load quality. But as the other guy said, this is just the beginning, give it 10 years. It'll make everyone more efficient, but it's not out and out replacing jobs. You'll still need a ton of people babysitting the machines and the belts. Stuff is going to be spilling out of packages, the belts are going to get jammed. The machines will get errors.

@@spencernorman2626 Some places this would work but most companies have a certain time window to operate. Everything is about a quick timeline especially at companies like FedEx and Ups. It takes a human on average 1 hour to load a 28' pup trailer and 2 hours to load a 53' long box. That is what these robots need to do for it to work at these 2 companies that have to move close to 40 million package a day.
