I spoke with parents about sending their T1D nine year old daughter to diabetes summer camp. We spoke about how they found the camp, how it felt to be cut off from her glucose levels, and how their daughter's independence grew. I also got to ask their daughter about her experience. If you’re a parent of a child with T1D, have you sent, or considered sending, your child to a Diabetes camp? Drop your experiences in the comments ⬇️

Diabetes Canada has their own DCamps system. I attended Camp Huronda in Huntsville, Ontario. It was life-changing when I was newly diagnosed, and just a wonderful experience to experience the great natural wonders of tge Muskokas and Algonquin Park.

Wow great timing with this video. The camp they talk about is also a 45min drive away from me in the opposite direction and I was looking at potentially applying to work there as a camp counselor. My schedule unfortunately is booked the week the camp is running this year, but definitely considering it for next year especially after this episode! Might reach out to them and see if I could come in one day and take some photos for them/the families.

I have had t1 for almost 52 years. I went to a 2 week diabetic camp twice, once at 12 and again at 13. It was by far, the best money my parents ever spent on me. I learned so much and likely would not be where I am today if I had not gone. It was something my doctor at Cinti Oh Children's hospital suggested to my parents.

Camp Herkto Hollow in Boone, IA. I went there for the first time in 1975 when I was 7 years old. That's where I learned to give my shot for the first time.

I know these days you do interviews but since you recently had a cold you should report back to us about how it was for you in relations to your Type 1 Diabetes. I am Not diabetic myself but follow as a nerd, if you will, and think this would be the opportunity to share the experience.
