Sometimes it's better to be less efficient for sanity. I suggest you just add this run at the beginning of your farming run instead of only doing LK runs. Loading times are long anyway in d2r so it's not that less efficient.
After many years of Diablo II, hundreds of hours of Resurrected and the streamer era, and a massive amound of youtube videos, Llama still casually tells news about drop patterns and superchests in the River of Flame. Its sick how deep this game is and MrLlama is a true master. Thanks man! You should be named MasterLlama or DrLlama!
It's the side effects of wasting your entire youth on a game from the 90s, then wasting the left of your life and what's left of your younger years to make everything about your life be about Diablo 2 a video game that is not relevant to nobody but old school people that will eventually be gone and Diablo 2 will be forgotten because the new and current generations barely touch Diablo 2. This dude has done nothing but talk, live and breath Diablo 2 for the past 2 to 3 decades and that is quite honestly depressing.
on P7 LK superchests have 6.5 Ber per 65k patterns, or 1 Ber per 10k patterns. At 6 chests per run you could expect a Ber (or 2 Sur) about every 1666 runs. Llama did his run in 25s, so you could expect a Ber rune in (1666*25) 41600s = 694m = 11.57 hours *on average* in Single Player with a good static map.
But usually it happens like this: you spending 24 hours for LK running, no Ber Runes, guy in next game finding 2 Ber in a row. And average is still correct. 1 ber per 12 hours)
sidenote: i really like how assassin doesnt need keys to open chests thats the kinda of difference they should build into the game for classes. its useful, but not too broken or overpowered. its just kinda nice :)
Good tip is to check the weapon stands and armor stands nearby for what base drops. Had a cv weapon stand and farmed a eth 4os base. Also got arreats off of an armor stand that dropped the base.
Remember that very few stats actually help for LK runs. Forget doing damage, forget magic find. Faster cast rate to your best break point, resistances and damage reduction for when you get hit and some run/walk helps.
So a paladin with enigma, max vigor, 1 pt cleansing, win? Been there. Still doing that lol. They really do make it too easy. I started with a blizzard sorc and I'd just ice blast anything getting to close. I've also tried it on my javazon, is ok. Going to try it on a barb next. Paladin is probably still best tbh.
@@formdoggie5 No it does not. Magic find doesn't have any impact on the decision of which item to drop. It only impacts the magical rarity of items that do drop that could be magical, rare, set, or unique. Also despite the superstitions, having more magic find doesn't reduce your chance of getting uniques. There are diminished returns meaning after 100% it isn't 1:1 anymore, but having a stacked magic find character will not ever reduce your chances of getting unique drops. It does however greatly increase the odds of failed unique rolls ending up magic quality because magical quality is buffed 1:1 with magic find.
@nemo-studios false, on every front. You can literally go read the pages that have the info I provided -- some of them are decades old. I also never said anything about uniques. Perhaps your MF gear will help you eventually find some reading comprehension.
@@formdoggie5 I've looked at the information that's correct. You are absolutely wrong here. EDIT: Mind you that magic find has zero impact on super chest drops. It's based on fixed drop tables and having magic find doesn't help or hurt you with super chests. Side note, I mentioned the uniques so other people looking at comments would have complete information regarding common misinformation that people like you confidently spew out misleading many into believing nonsense.
Farmed LK for months working towards a Grief and Enigma with no notable drops. Scored my Enigma with a Jah near the Trav council and a Ber off of countess trash within a month of each other. Scored my Grief off of countess runs and cubing ists and vexes up to a Lo. I'll keep LK in the rotation but I like killing mobs over popping chests.
My current rotation is Tower > LK > Arcane > River on my lightning sorc hunting rune drops. Not even remotely close to the most efficient, but it keeps it varied and if I'm tired of one thing I can remove it from the rota. So far I have found Ber and many Pul/Mal/Ist. No Vex though, which vexes me...
Hey MrLlama. You've inspired me to try d2 once again. However i was wondering if there is a link for the Syper chest drop pattern sheet you used in this video?
Great guide, since I play bnet, 90% of the time I’m solely looking at the P1 rune table and those juicy A5 drop rates might make me take a few runs in those areas
yesterday i solo ubers thanks to you! i own you so much mr lama i geared up according your paladin smite and ubers its so easy thanks to you! keep the good content
Thanks for this Mr.Llama!!! I started counting my runs because it gets boring in a while, on my run 116 i got a Sur rune on p7 bu i want a Ber so i changed back to p5. At run 130, i got a Ber rune, then At 144, i got a Lo. I'm so excited!! I can now create my grief. Still need yo hunt my Jah tho haha. Ps5 offline SSF player here. P5 is the best for me. Aside from the runes, i was also able to find some skillers and other nice small charms here. Hang in there brothers! You'll get your runes eventually.
I wish D2R would increase high rune drop rates for single player online. I don't think a lot of us have the patience for dozens of hours of pure rune grinding. It gets incredibly boring after just a couple. Even doubling the drop rate on super chests would take a long long time. After several hours of actual focused LK and Countess rune farming, the highest I've gotten was 1 Gul and an Ist. The highest ever is only an Ohm from a random monster. I've never gotten a Lo or higher in all the hours I have played.
high runes are already powerful enough, they do not require a buff. Gul and ist and ohm is pretty good fam you can still trade stuff you find to higher runes
You can trade. Offline should have a big boost for HR. Single for consoles who can't use hero editor make it kinda lame. I enjoy grinding but damn a little help would be nice.
@@aarongibson9759 you should look into Lower Kurast runs, it's a very fast way to farm up to Ber rune. But it's mostly Offline because you keep the maps between games. Still works online to a lesser degree
thing to note is the racks can drop items and there consistent too armor and weapons up to the map level so my lk drops thrashers and Wyrmhide so they can drop eth as well. corps can drop hrs but its probly really Realy REALY low like once in a life time thing. other chest and baskets can drop unique items as well. the racks look to be tied to the seed thow so need a new map to get other items.
I always really enjoyed running superchests, and farming poppables. No idea why. It was great back in the day when the SPF was brute force compiling the LK drop patterns. My sorc rolled an RoF map with three superchests a couple teles away from the WP. Never managed to pop a Cham though.
After doing a bunch of LK runs with out too much success. Last night in a span of 30 minutes I found 2x Ber rune and a Vex rune. I found a Sur rune the day before. Still no Lo rune but that 30 minute luck span was absolutely wild!
Thanks for the guide MrLlama! hope you can make a Griffon's Eye farming guide as well. I know the item drops randomly but a guide on the fastest strat to specifically target mobs/uniques that have the highest chance to drop it really helps since there are mobs that drop white diadems but will never drop a unique diadem :)
found mine with my blizz sorce in ancient tunnels. Havent found jack shit else unfortunately. Its like the game gifted me a griffons and then told me that was all I get
Really do not know how can someone sit all day farming LK, this would be devastating. I get why all content creators are doing it, but for the average person, if i allow myself to grind offline LK for hours and days, this is definitely some sort of a signal.
I like having something monotonous to do while listening to podcasts or half way paying attention to a chill TV series. It's like pulling the lever on a slot machine except I don't run out of money and in the endI might be able to teleport with my non sorcs
@@AndreLuis-gw5ox I talk about as LK is the most boring thing that you can do in D2. If you add it to your rotation of doing other things sure, it can be fun, but to be spamming p7 lk on a perfect rolled map on SP, this is just waste of your own time and I personally do not see the point in it. Of course that anyone has their own opinion and preferences, which is why i am not forcing mine on anyone, just sharing
Completely agree, especially about the 'devastating' part. I've tried playing Diablo like I used to (for many hours),, but this time trying to look for things like high runes and uniques... Not only is it mentally tiring now and has very low reward, but also I can't play for more than half an hour without starting to feel like my tendinitis is coming back stronger. It's really frustrating. I think I'll stick to vicariously experiencing the game watching videos like these. 🤷🏽♂️
After a long week of work and studies, there's nothing better than Diablo II level up with a good drink. I'm not very into farming like this, but I really feel good slaving demons horde 😂 I hope next month Diablo IV will start giving us this same kind of satisfaction and fun while we try to find good gears and items
Yea for me on switch in handheld a harmony bow and act 3 was much faster it took me 7-8 days 2-3 hours a day to get infinity runes, in that time I also got grief, exile, flickering flame, hoto plus Sur, ohm and vex. I made a Reddit post at that time, I believe it was 1600 runs and I got most of my runes from random clickables so click 2-4 a run, I had 1 min 20-30 sec runs from load screen to exit
Super Chests are a great example of how the internet changed game design! It feels like the designers didn't intend people to know about it. D2 is really good at peppering in moments when your character suddenly gets better. And this feels like it was supposed to be a surprise, and they didn't anticipate how the info would be shared and used online.
Riddle me this, Sr. Lllama: why do we see LOWER chances of some runes at HIGHER P-levels for a given scenario without correspondingly increased chances of the more-senior runes? Examples: Ber in Act III (better to run P5 than P7), Cham in Act V (P1 vs P3/5), Ohm in Act II (P5 vs P7). I could see the programmers saying that the payoff is the total number of drops increasing at each P-level, with only the distributions changing; yet that would not explain Act V, where the total drops from 29 (P1) to 28 (P3). Maybe the lesson is that Act V is not value-added for chests unless you are specifically hunting Jahs (P1/3) or Zods (P7)?
Because the p level doesn’t directly affect the drop chance of runes specifically, it affects the chance of different set combinations of items dropping
I have never found a high rune in a chest, let alone even a mid rune. I have found VEX's, JAH's, CHAM's in Act 4, mostly in Chaos Sanctuary, but some in the Plains of Despair as well. Another spot where I had found high mid runes was in Tal Rashas tombs. All these finds were believe it or not on Player one as that is what I play mostly as it is hard finding a good group. In group play, my highest rune found was a MAL
All these videos are great to understand the game. So I appreciate them. But, and it’s a big but, the rates are determined by number of players. Online, there’s no way to specify players 5 or 8. So the chests in regular play on bnet are not productive. Right?
Great info ! Question.. now that Act 2 tombs have been upped to lvl 85 are they good for farming ? Tons of urns and i always felt like the chests in the ends of some rooms where super because they would drop a ton of stuff.. 🤔
I enjoy the LK runs. It's like a slot machine and so many things pop out, yay! Great place for charms, runes, and gold for gambling. If I'm bored I'll do meph runs.
I get the nostalgia factor of D2R. When it released i played it for a while, it was fun for a few days, but after that you hit the wall when in order to get high runes you need to open chests instead of killing monsters. Blizzard need to completely nerf this and buff the monster drops so ppl can actually play the game, instead of just doing open chest simulators all day. This is boring as hell and I personally went back to D2 mods where actually farming is rewarding.
Ya I wish they made the drops higher. I like the difficulty to d2 but I should not have to dedicate my life the game and still have a chance of not seeing certain items
No, you hit the wall when you realize that there's virtually no point to even bothering getting "high runes" because you don't need them - literally for anything. By the time you get to that point, you've already beaten the game on all 3 difficulties. Which is essentially doing the EXACT same thing 3 times with zero differences except more npc's which is still easy. This isn't an mmo. After doing this, (even if playing online) you are essentially locked and permanently stuck having your character afk in the rogue encampment for all eternity. I mean, where else are you going to go? there's no "post-game". (Things like ubers aren't post-game because there's no point to defeating them just to get an item drop that you can't use for anything since you already beat the game). Start another character? okay ... and do the exact same storyline 3 more times for what purpose. Essentially the ONLY reason there is for minmaxing a character is for pvp. And while there's obviously skill to it ....it's literally holding down the teleport button on all classes and throwing random abilities until you chance hit your target. Blizzard doesn't need to do anything. D2R was a good game but if you're wasting your time getting these higher runes just to make a max BIS item to stand around a permanently-locked-finished-game idk wat to say to u
So mass farming the same mobs over and over and over for a 1/5000 drop rate is somehow more stimulating than opening the same chest over and over? I farmed for a monarch. After the 20th run it was literally as boring as doing something like opening chests lmao. Farming is farming. It's not fun either way you do it. The game is obviously perfectly playable, otherwise nobody would be playing it. Doesn't seem like there's any shortage of HR's either.
I average a LK run in 38 seconds. I did 18hrs of runs in the last 3 days (6hrs a day) at player 7. And the only runes I got were low runes amn. Thul. Sol. Not even a mal or anything higher dropped.
This game needs to implement an update where there are more areas to farm high runes and increase the chances for that to happen. Maybe add an act 6 bonus? Or a level similar to the secret cow level where there is an extreme high volume of monsters to farm. It gets old and ridiculous farming the same 5 levels over and over again, especially LK.
I've testet this over a few weeks. Got Enigma, Chains of Honor, grief and fortitude that way. But I had insane luck. 4 Sur runes in 2 weeks with 4 hour runs every day. I did players 1 and players 8. Strangely I had better drops on players 1 🤷♂️. On average I had a mid high rune every 2,5 to 3 hours. Get to it guys, it works 👌🤙🤙
Can't wait to do this. Really wasn't an option with my 2014 Acer nitro 5, loading times were a complete mess... But now. It's time for a Blood bath. Wait, wrong act!
@@hschnabel3055 😅 you just have to keep doing it. Because sometimes you get nothing for 4 hours or more. And than the next day you find a "mal" or "ist" within 15 minutes.
How in the hell did people find out this info originally? 65k different loot tables for super chests and different odds of each to drop depending on players 1-8 wow. Does Blizz release info like this about how the game works?
Apparently the LK runs are not random at all. Look up Ginger’s video on how he can get a ber rune every time by doing the same movement pattern with im his character. Really sucks that it isn’t truly random.
I decided to look up the pattern for locked chests, since there is a difference. And the site that I found claims that the chests have 2 Ber runes at P5/6, not 4. Now which source should I trust? If I am to trust the video, I'd run then at P5, as having 4 + 5 chance to find Ber or Sur is better than having 2 + 9. But if I am to trust the other site, than 2 + 9 is better than 2 + 6, so I'd need to be doing P7 instead.....
Where at the act 5 super chests? Ps I hate super chests… I have literally never found a high rune from a super chest but I have found a Ber, a Lo, ohm and 2 vex from LK logs/skeletons
As a newer player looking to get higher end items, and I mean this in no offense, you need to explain these things better. Like what the hell is Player 5 table? Like do I have to find a game that only has 4 people and hope I'm the 5th? Does any of this need MF? How do I know what super chest actually is?
Is this seriously faster/more efficient than farming Hell Countess? She's pretty much guaranteed to drop a rune, but just a lower chance for a high rune. I usually save anything higher than a Lem to craft up. I get about a Ber per month, sometimes faster if I'm lucky.
Well this strongly reminds me of launch D3 where the most efficient way to farm Inferno gear was to break barrels, chests and other stuff instead of killing monsters.
When I was finishing act 3 for first time when game dropped dropped a ber my first super chest haven't found a rune since don't do many runs but ber was such a boost first week of d2r
Clearing any type of stash at LK u'll see that HRs can drop from any box. Got some HRs even from baskets. Ofc. no daily drop. The drop chance from super chests isn't higher than from a basket in what I found in thousands of UK runs. Im starting any season there with a low equipped sorc and had no season without a few hrs.
Fully agree, I got Sur, Ber and Lo dropped that way from non-super poppables. As I got a fairly long load time I run a circle around my two campfires that are very close to eachother. Popping dozens of other chests/logs bodies etc. as well proved to be the most effective way for me to farm LK.
Would you recommend doing this also on nintendo switch? Because loading is huge, I have been trying to run it p7 for hrs and hrs now but im not getting anything.
Haha good point. Only if some1 want to share his savegame files. I remmeber 20 years ago when we were carrying savegame files on a discet to play with friends in a internet caffe.
Hell if you're going to cheat just skip that whole step and edit them in with hero editor. It's not like it's online, nobody is going to care. You do lose the satisfaction of actually finding something yourself though.
Say I get a perfect map for running LK... is there a way to save/copy the map files so I can always/easily reload the "perfect" LK map even after changing difficulties or joining MP games?
Also... The only thing I use single player for is testing builds with hero editor. You will never have successful LK runs on bnet without jumping through some hoops.
I found a camp fire next to my waypoint and I can TP directly into it. Its only one fire but I am not taking the chance on rolling for a better map. It's so fast to tp in and get the two and tp to the other hut. I use sanders and vigor to run to the waypoint in act 3 town. It's very fast
Hi, do these P1 to P7 chance to get a run is applied a offline character? Because I don't play Diablo online and I see that Zod rune has 0 chances for player 1 LOL
I’ve found so many high runes in the pit. 4 jah in the last week plus ohm sur’s lo’s but only one ber at players 7 with hammerdin. Single player obviously.
does it matter when playing online whether the other Players are in the same area? Or could I just join a random game where ppl do like Baal and I do a LK run?
I noticed that on single player some racks have a higher chance to drop particular items as well. There is an armor rack that drops shako for me. I got 4 unique shako. I have seen many white, blue, and yellow shako from that same rack. I have 1 rack that loves dropping t-strokes.
One of the LK racks likes to drop me cryptic axe. Now if my socket recipe would roll 4 that’d be great 😂 rolled 3 axes in 2 hours yesterday, all poop. Haha.
@@clutchspells2804 Curiously enough, the item drop is influenced by your approach pattern. So you can look for more desirable spawns to farm off of the weapon and armor racks. It's a great way to get bases to go with the runes from all the superchests, logs and corpses in LK.
@@prwillia crazy how many things influence drops in this game. I played it on release before LOD. I still play it occasionally. I did 8 pit runs today, had a cham rune drop, but nothing else. Not a single unique.
how come you get that much loot from the chests? Imn lvl 82. running Hell lowe kurast, but sometimes its just a few items dropping. i try type /players 7, but i get no confirmation from the game that its set to 7. Mobs even seem to drop as it was normal 1p.
This video has been rather useful. I would like to add a particular incident that happened to me yesterday. I started a game with players 7, went to Lower Kurast and opened and killed everything. Then on same game I switched to players 1 and went to a Countess run and got Eth, Sol and Pul. I repeated the same pattern and on the 2nd Countess run I obtained again the same runes Eth, Sol and Pul. I didn’t have time to test this further. Could it be coincidence or some bug?
The game is not truly random. Drops are determined by certain actions, so if you manage to repeat them perfectly you can get the same drops over and over. There is the infamous infinite Ber LK map. Ginger Gaming Mentor has a video on it.
how do you get the best setup for LK runs? Do you just start a new game over and over and run through it all again to get to LK and see what the layout is?
What character do you farm with? I literally can not do this farm without killing the ghosts while they are floating in the void. I never get any drops because I always accidentally kill them while they’re floating in space.
@@MattSeesGray i use lighting nova sorc. if they are floating out side i just teleport back and forth on the path till they get back over it. if you have a strong enough merc you can also just wait till they swarm him to start killing
