Boys.. what an experience we had. The world was different, both in-game and out. Diablo 2: LOD was peak gaming, no doubt. No social media back then. Barely cellphones. MMO's weren't really a thing quite yet. This was our game. We lived this shit. We experienced it and no one will ever understand our nostalgia for this absolute masterpiece.. but we can come back to videos like this and rejoice with the select few that were there.. as for me..? I'll be in Lut Gholien, eager to unravel the deserts mysteries.. and what lies ahead of me deep within Tal'Rasha's tomb..
Indeed. Everyone has the nostalgia of their youth though. For some it'll be reading books, for today's youth possibly playing Elden Ring or Diablo 4. No one's nostalgia is superior to anyone else's.
@@Cheximus Yeah, I agree! However, I feel like the authenticity of gaming was at it's peak around this era, 90's to early 2000's. The fact that certain things like social media and cellphones not existing yet was huge. Meta existed but not like it does today. Gaming was a lot more self-exploratory and hear-say amongst friends or people you would engage with in-game. The fact that a lot of us had to LAN and now younger peeps today don't even know what that is. lol. Or internet cafes. The 90's - It was just different man. It is literally impossible for someone to ever replicate the vibe we had then, but you can certainly replicate the vibe of games that come out today for the foreseeable future.
Blizzard North RIP. Cozy nerds that got a contract and made it better than they could imagine. Doing the early devlopment of D3 their contract got canceled over some disagrement. And blizzard made an awful arcade diablo game and ruined the genre for good in Immortal and D4
@@-lorentzen5925 D3 played like a cheap web-app, was cartoony and fruity like WoW, and plain failed to carry the torch. Story/writing was really dumb too.
@@MMoer no, modern gaming really is just plain dogshit, especially when it comes to music and sound design. Nobody cares to hire a good composer now, its all about the obsession with pixels now.
@@Ixtzalit Insane fact about this that I found out not too long ago. So at some point as an adult I was recalling the exact thing this comment thread is talking about, the sounds that fallen make when they walk around or when you kill them. Backstory to this, my father worked in conjunction with Blizzard to make some shirts for them for D2 Lord of Destruction, and his contact at blizzard's name was Karen Colenzo. There is a boss variant of fallen (warped) shaman who's name is Colenzo the Annihilator, and it is the first "boss" in the first wave of minions sent out by baal in his throne room in act 5. In the same way the fallen say Rakanishu's name, I believe what the fallen shamans are saying is actually co-len-zo, the name of their leader, Colenzo the Annihilator. Because Blizzard has a tendency to name mobs in game after employees, that is what led me to this conclusion. I could be totally wrong but it makes sense to me. 😅 Side note, I actually have some misprinted d2lod tshirts in my attic because of the work that was done with blizzard by my father in the late 90s and early 00's. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. Some unofficial sources: diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Colenzo_the_Annihilator www.diablofans.com/forums/read-only-diablo-forums/diablo-legacy-forums/diablo-ii/71979-f-references-to-real-life-made-in-the-diablo in the diablo fans link, ctrl+f "colenzo"
This was peak gaming. Watching the ladder daily to see who would hit that elusive 99. That feeling every time you started a new char and hit the Blood Moor. Always finding the Summoner on the 4th path in the Arcane. The fear of going into Trav and the stygian dolls in the Durance. Endless Meph Runs. Blood Runs (For those of you who were around in the OG era). Every time those beautiful golden letters dropped. Moo Moo Moo MOOOOOOO! Best game of all time. The community we had back in the day was insane. The scamming. The pk's in hardcore. Being lvl 1 in hell cows. The grind of playing through. I loved it all. The endless chaos and baal runs. My goodness. They don't make games like Diablo 2 anymore.
I'll never understand why D4 never went with this style. It's a good game don't get me wrong, but there's just something about D2's music that's straight up magical.
@@ZZXXBBVN What's funny about D4 is that there is more enemy variety, but for some reason they feel a lot less different. I'm not quite sure what D4 did wrong, but one thing I know for sure: Making the whole world a single area was a HUGE mistake.
the added rain sounds just makes this even more enjoyable, I can see my barb sitting in town at the campfire the rain dripping off his face as he looks into the cozy fire
10 seconds in and I IMMEDIATELY felt nostalgia, calm and release. I think I will enjoy this game and music for the rest of my life, having been playing it since Diablo 1 at the age of 10ish. Thank you putting this together.
Back when games came in a box with readable guides. We had gaming magazines that came with demo discs. Technology was growing slowly but changing very fast.
D2 has such a unique soundtrack, not in the actual musicality, but the way it hits you with the pangs of nostalgia. Its very comfy. The rain sounds are like great window dressing.
There's no rain in the desert or hell! Love the ambience tho ♥ It was a different time, back then, and the world will never get another Diablo II. Savor those memories..
When I first heard about this at 15 and the ability to be a necromancer was the coolest thing ever at that time. No other game was doing that. So many beautiful hours of my youth.
I'm frequently distracted by Diablo soundtrack posts when they get to the fast-paced parts and then no longer feel like ambience but foreground. However, this one captured the more ambient parts of Diablo. Nice work.
I removed the parts where the music was turned up too high, and it doesn't keep the same rhythm, that spoils the ambience. Thanks for noticing this🤗Have a good day!
Got this playing on my sound bar while I study for a microbiology exam and the clouds roll in from the west...perfectly nostalgic and cozy in the best way...thank you
I used to run meph/baal bots and would turn the bot on before going to school and when going to bed. Loved coming back to uncovering Stormshields & Grandfathers. Man I miss those days.
CHRISTMAS....cold outside. no school...just my blanket....and hot chocolate from my mother...playing diablo 2 listening to this wonderfull music....oh..dear..time passes....
I remember playing D2 back then. My first unique item was a Goldskin and all my friends were jealous, because they havent found any unique item yet. We all even didnt know that uniques exist until i found this one :D This was an amazing feeling back then! Besides Dark age of Camelot the best game ever!
nothing new in world genius. From my POV 50% of D2 game is music, if wasnt Uelmen, doubt it will be were is now. Funny thing, Uelmen worked for music D3 aswell, but after the North Blizzard was dismantled, all soundtracks get on WOW Burning Crusade(not all soundtracks are from Matt Uelmenn, maybe half), sometime i wonder in WOW BC, were is coming that music when i farmed mobs.
There's something so "American-Fantasy" about diablo that I can never explain, felt it since I was a kid, the acoustic guitar not found in traditional fantasy and the npc voices all being stern american accents.
Upon entering the game.. you see a small group of rogues hiding in an encampment. The enviroment, the place amidst the shadows that engulfed the wilderness, there's been a cozy bonfire in the middle, you see an unfamiliar face but calm and relaxing sounding 30+ yo man being greeted by a Caravan Leader called Warriv.. As u deeply dive into the atmosphere u listen to ur friendly guide about the Dark Wanderer as the guitar sounds in the soundtrack makes you thinking, understanding the whole situation and relaxing by the bonfire... I love the atmosphere of Diablo 2, truly unique and cannot be copied by other games EVEN new Diablo games.
Just reinstalled the game and played my fighting sorceress. Thanks to your video who motivate me for restarting all the game from the beginning..!!! ❤ And also help me to sleep 😊
I have for years used the original D2 soundtrack for ambient music... can't remember if I dl'ed it or ripped it from the game files... but the added rain effects really round it out. Good job.
The magic of Matt Uelmen. Everybody says exactly the same about WoW Burning Crusade soundtrack, where you listen to familiar Diablo pieces here and there.
I have been a Diablo I and II player since they both came out. I am currently in Siem Reap Cambodia. I left my gaming laptop at home because it was just too heavy to bring. I only have my 13" MacBook with me, meaning I cannot play Diablo II (or Diablo 1) until I get back home in a couple of weeks. Sitting here listening to this epic soundtrack is giving me a profound sense of calmness and serenity. Thank you ever so much for posting this. You have no idea what it means to me.
I can still remember downloading the 50 MB Diablo II open beta on dial-up, it took all night and I barely slept to keep an eye on it in case it would time out. You could only play as the barbarian and fight as far as Blood Raven if I remember correctly and my buddy and I ran through that as much as we could for the beta period. He stayed over that night and actually got some real sleep, heh.
Solía ponerme esta banda sonora con los auriculares y cerraba los ojos, transportándome a Santuario. A veces me relajaba tanto que me quedaba dormido. 😊
