Diadem is so bitter-sweet. All their paddles are good, but at their inflated price they don't really seem worth it. Would be hilarious if they start selling more v1s due to the clearance price drop now that the v2 is released.

Good call - I went from a Warrior 1 which I love to a Pro Drive Carbon (say V2) which I like more because it's heavier and has a little more pop.

I have had the chance to use the Warrior V2, although for only one game. In my opinion, the V2 does have less power, although power is not something that I struggle with at all. I feel as though the V2 can reset anything, and the control is just so good. I agree with you about the feel of the V2. The OG has a very unique feel that the V2 doesn't have. Because of this, I don't love the V2, however it fits my playstyle so well that I almost want to buy it now, even though I am fine on paddles. I am torn between the price for the perfect paddle for my game, or getting better with the equipment that I have.

I don't know when you received this paddle, but I just got 10 of them and none of mine arrived with chipped paint. I just double checked all of them to be sure. Also I give Diadem credit for producing a thermoformed paddle without the clunky plastic edge guards which, to me, seem so 2022. No mention of the edge matching Armor Tape that ships with every paddle. Easy to apply with graphics that pop. After reviewing where I scuff my paddles, I trimmed my Armor Tape and applied a smaller section on the top and upper sides. I then used the 2 trimmed pieces at the throat of the paddle to hide some lead tape I added. The Armor Tape by itself weighs next to nothing.

I mentioned the armor tape that gets shipped in a graphic on screen. The one that was sent to Mega didn't come with it. Perhaps ours just came with paint defects, but it was very noticeable.

Also on your most recent podcast you said how you now pretty much yawn when you hear of a company introducing a new thermoformed paddle. You said “you gotta at least do one thing different”. Well, here’s your different. And you of course give it a tepid “meh” and proceed to hawk some cheaper basic ”ho hum” paddle in this review. You could have at least applauded a company for not bringing out carbon copies (pardon the pun) of other brands.

You’re right, probably could have applauded that. But is it really that great if you tried something new and the performance is worse than other options? So because a company tries something different, I should recommend it over better products simply because they tried something different? Not sure I like the logic.

We found the Diadem rep in the comments 😂. Don’t hate on Chris for him saying the truth that its a decent paddle, but for the price there are better options out there for less money.

So your paddle didn't come with the Paddle Armor? It's a custom yellow tape with Diadem lettering in a separate package that you put on the edge.

I am a Warrior V1 faithful. This paddle would have to be mind blowingly better for me to ditch my two W:V1 paddles and spend $230 for this paddle. Judging by your trusted review as well as other player reviews, I think this paddle is just good, not great. I don't feel there is enough of an improvement to warrant spending the money. Thanks for the honest take, it saved me a couple of Franklin's out of my checking account.

I have found that most, if not, all of the new Carbon faced paddles have a ton of spin and power but much less control as fiberglass faced paddles. As most advanced points are won at the net, I am looking for the best combination of spin and control, not spin and power. Chris, what carbon face paddle do you think does this the best? I am a 4.5 player who recently has gone back to the Franklin Signature fiberglass face (old) from the CRBN 1 (old, not power line) paddle. Thanks!

Interesting! Most people find they have better control with carbon fiber. My recommendations would be: Selkirk Labs 003 Ronbus R1.16 (not the Pulsar version) Possibly the new Vatic Prism. Just came out, $89 with a discount code PBSTUDIO. Haven’t hit it, but based on the description it should fall into the category you’re looking for.

Don't think Aramid is the same as Nomex. Been awhile since I've heard mention of Nomex.Sounds like I'm not missing out on the "NEXT GREATEST THING". Sticking with my Cheetah AF/CF and Vatic Flash for now. $229.oo -10% is out of my budget again. Like how RU-vid breaks up your channel name....PICKLEBALL STUD!!!

I could be wrong. I'm basing that off some old research I had done when the original Warrior came out. I believe the original Warrior was marketed as Nomex when it first launched.

You are correct , nomex is classified as an aramid fiber and is what is considered to be a meta aramid. Kevlar, Conex, Twaron, etc.. brands of aramid.
