@@DayOffDIY I watch too much RU-vid to admit, but with the way things are going, your upload frequency is enough to keep the followers engaged and happy, and the quality of the videos is still high. I appreciate you taking the extra time to explain the ISTA software and tyre hole repairs-awesome value entertainment!
@@LastChanceFossilmeans a lot! thank you! im trying to keep up with production speed to keep it flowing! glad you appreciate the content, your feedback is incredibly valuable!!!
She’s coming along great! She’s got some neglect for sure but given the Alec touch she’ll come around. Just don’t get too deep into it. Get it mechanically sorted. Make it look as good as you can without going crazy and it’ll make someone a fine cheap but good running machine
As soon as I heard the bong during the test drive I knew it was 30FF. My beloved 535 I bought with only 30k miles on it started throwing that code after I already spent over $10k on repairs and maintenance in 2 years. I still miss that car every day. Shop quoted me $5k to replace the turbos so she had to go. I’ve wanted another N54 ever since. Thanks again for the great info and entertainment!
BRUTAL! yeah these turbos are notorious, not to mention the ducting that feeds them are prone to vacuum leaks. Hopefully you can get another one someday!!!
She's looking better and better! I guess it proves that this chassis can take a beat and be refreshed with new parts and some knowledge. Looking forward for the next episodes! Cheers from Brazil!
This rules. Pre covid I was really toying with getting an N54 car. E90/92's w/ them were $3-5k ALL day w/ around 70k mi on them back then!! I was newer to wrenching & it would've been my daily/only car, so naturally I got scared away lol. Thanks for reminding me that ISTA is a must if I do still have a chance at an N54 car one day. Love your stuff man, awesome to see how much the channel has grown & will certainly continue to undoubtedly!! ✌️🤘
ISTA is super helpful with these cars. Thanks for the support my friend! They can be really great engines, just a little high maintenance if not maintained
Nice progress! I think I understand how elderly people felt when I was fixing their PCs during my childhood. They can follow the diagnose and fixes being made, but coming up _yourself_ with what to do is another level. I'll just sit back and enjoy your show :)
Holy guacamoly how a tiny sensor is able to cause a terrible idling motor.. Big thanks for feeding us with your quality content Alec. ❤ I enjoy watching your videos the most on youtube actually. Keep up the good work man 💪 With sage on your side this car will be ready in no time 😉😂 ✌️
I've had an e46 parked at my dads house for 4 years. You're videos have encouraged me to get it home and get it going again 👍 I've just serviced it and next is the brakes, your videos are quality 👌
Isn't it so sweet when a simple sensor replacement fixes like almost everything??? What a moment, loved it! Loved the video, everything is awesome also from my side Alec, pure gold!! Keep it coming!
oh Im excited to see this next video, oddly I have a ding on my passenger door in the same spot in the same way would love to see if you do fix that and some of the paint and blemishes
Thanks for posting the injector noice, I have 140K on my N54 and I swapped the tensioner, pulls and belt in hopes of eliminating the noice. Now I'll chalk it up to maintenance and not worry about it.
Seen a boost leak come from open waste gate on a 335i on a legit street cars episode awhile back and Alex fixed it by putting some washers on the flap to get it to close properly and it saved him a lot of time . Hope u get it running soon can’t wait to see her rip great content bro wish u the best .
Alec, you are really killing it with this car and the pace is much more enjoyable for me, a guy who loves the cars but doesn’t wrench 🔧 them himself. I got behind on the videos, but I hope that you’ll start selling these masterpieces because I won’t qualify for the giveaways. I’m not rich, but I have what I need.
EH! From up north in Canada 🇨🇦. Currently rebuilding a 323i E90 N54. Excited to see the oil pan and gasket replacement as I'm also about to perform the same project on my build! Great Channel hidden really enjoying the content!
more excellent work. I'm glad you mentioned going after the boost leak before replacing the turbos, that's deffo what I'd be doing before having to drop subframes ;)
Hey great to see the next chapter! I was pleasantly surprised by the answering of my last comments. Sweet. I wish I could give you advice as you're going through this thing. I guess I should get in touch as you suggested. So even though I'm too late to help here I'll tell you that you certainly didn't "Need" to replace the whole line as they tell you in INPA. They sell a tapered adapter you can use on it if anyone really wants to make sure they have it done right. However none of it is really needed. That new sensor works just fine and doesn't leak at all even if just put in just like the old one. Just MAKE SURE you use the O ring the old one had! By the way where are your vacuum bottles?? You're missing the vacuum canisters that go beside the coolant tank. That's what the vacuum lines should be running to from the brake booster lines then to the boost Solenoids. Solenoids are often a source of no boost on these too. Never buy the cheap ones on ebay. There are a lot of cheap things that are okay to buy on there but those aren't one (First hand experience speaking here lol). Use Boost canisters are fine. They are plastic and seem to hold up well for the most part. I'm excited to see you're work on the new Turbos!! I think those might be the same 17T's I have on mine. I'm now (After custom tuning from JSR) plus all the bolt ons etc) Running around 630WHP. Which is pretty much the edge of safe for the Automatic ZF trans. Can't wait to watch the next one! Thank you!
Gotta do my turbos eventually too, boosts fine but the rattles crazy. A smoke test would be cool to see could get it running while you're waiting for parts to swap the turbos.
not a N54 guy, but shouln'd there be 2 vaccum canisters next to the expansion tank of the water system to support the wastegates - maybe put them back in to exclude that from the potential boost leak causes
those spots on the hood might be sap from a tree. You could try to polish them out if that doesn’t work if recommended a few things. 1 goo gone and a heat gun. or 2000 grid sand paper IF you have a strong compound. it’s not hard to remove with a decent compound and a machine polisher !
I hope you get a sponsor to send you a set of coilovers! This car with the new turbos will be wicked fast that will need a suspension upgrade.. New Michelin pilots AS4 to complete the upgrade.
Alec, while you have the subframe out you should probably do the water pump and thermostat too. Even if it's on it's second one it may be nearing end of life.
I totally agree I just dont have much $$ for the build so im going cheap as possible. If i can find it in the budget ill try, but im not afraid of having to replace them with the subframe up afterwards, im pretty good at swapping them out quickly
@@DayOffDIY Understood. Maybe take it off and inspect it at least. Can't wait to see you do the oil pan. I need to do one on an E82 N52 but it should be basically the same. Looking forward to seeing the process.
I expect another reason you shouldn't plug near the wall of the tyre is due to motion and friction being harder on corners where the tyre is more likely to flex, which may lead to a blow out.
@@DayOffDIY is helping me out a lot watching some of you guys on here, I have a brain injury I only two years ago found out I could drop dead from, after I went through a 5 year long complete psychological breakdown that worsened my dysphasia from the brain injury for a period and swallowed up most of my knowledge and intellect, it only disappeared for a year or so and is coming back slowly, like say it's videos like your helping a lot cause people/friends where I live now aren't technically minded or know what I do, so specialist and correctly explanatory guys like you re helping a lot !
Any buying tips for buying a second hand f15 x5? One hand I'm like "Inline 6 Turbo baby" other "Hell no I don't want to broke and ruin trips". I love road trips long or short because thats how I unwind. Turbo pulls and spools along the way meditation at its best.
That's shavings from the rotor and brake pad backing plate that's rusting on the surface of the wheel someone definitely sent those brakes metal to metal at some point.
This is perfect, this is literally my car in the same condition. I subscribed and am going to follow what you do to this car I will do the same. Chase down my boost leak, find where im smoking from, I hope replacing the turbos will help.
I dont... I had a friend download a bootleg copy onto my laptop remotely... id research google or the forums! I replied to someone elses comment on this video about ISTA
Alec the 335 is looking good . Love that color too . I really want to know is there a way to get ista for free? I’ve been wanting it for awhile just haven’t done good research.
appreciate it chad! So i had a friends cousin bootleg download it onto a computer i bought for it. Im not very tech savvy so im not personally comfortable torrenting something so large onto a computer. Its about 500gb so it would be good to have a spare laptop dedicated to it. my previous shop had it installed on their computers by someone else too so... id research the forums/google and see what the enthusiasts are doing to get it loaded on. They would be a better source of knowledge for it than me. I had someone remote into my computer to do it.
i would get some new tires and maybe new wheels after you have finished repairing it. Just personal opinion, i would run some michelins or something else popular
hey bud im an extreme bimmer guy, i got an e90 m3, 3 e46s, and 1 more e90. how do i gain access to the version of ISTA you have? i'd love to register my batteries also.
So I would google this one. I had a friend load a copy onto my computer. I’m not good with tech. If you google how to get ISTA you’ll find a Reddit thread about it, give that a look, on that thread there’s a dude that offers services there with his number he can load it on ur pc and send you the cables 👍🏻
Awesome video and subscribed. Was wondering if you knew what would make an oil cooler, high pressure fuel pump to become very hot to the touch? My X1 is not running hot, nor is the oil temp too high but the outside surface temperature of those items including the bottom mating trim of the cylinder head is really hot to the touch in a quick drive to the store., also smoking some from tail pipe and exhaust manifold next to the cylinder head. Not sure what's up with her
If it’s smoking next to the valve cover, the valve cover is probably leaking onto the cylinder head. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the surfaces being hot to the touch, it doesn’t sound out of the ordinary, it’s amazing how hot these cars will get once they warm up
@@DayOffDIY Well I just replaced the valve cover gasket not too long ago with an Elring gasket I haven't noticed it leaking since, nor have I noticed any oil leaking on the turbo manifold, but it's smoking a little bit out of the tail pipe and up from the manifold for a reason. Did a block test for the head gasket but the fluid stayed blue in color so that was a relief.
@@BamaTony73you positive its smoke and not condensation? If you JUST replaced the V/C gasket it might take some time to burn off the residual oil from the leak.
Hi dude! Question: How feels this e90 after driving your e46? I have a '02 325i and it runs sweet, but i've been thinking on buy one of these... but what worries me the most is reliability, expensive parts , etc. Greetings from your friend in Spain!
Spain! Amazing! The e90s are great. E46s are generally cheaper to maintain but if you get an engine like the N51/52 instead of the n54/55 it’ll be a lot cheaper! They do drive different, the e90s feel more modern and the e46s feel more mechanical.
What’s up bro I’m having trouble with my 2007 5 series it has the N/a inline six. I have good voltage at idle both from the alternator and battery but I highway speeds all the electronics inside fail and my car won’t shift and it throws U110F code at me. I checked all the fuses in the trunk and the glove compartment all of them are good. Is it possible that the alternator is failing at highway speed but working at idle? Also it killed my battery so I suspecting it is. Voltage is 14.9 at idle in the engine bay and in the trunk. Please help 🙏🏼thank you
Sounds surprisingly good! Thought after last episode it was still going to sound like a bag of shit, but apart from the turbos it seems decent. The pressure washing of the car has inspired me so I’m going to do mine today also 😅
I agree… luckily it’s on my own property and only a little collects in the gravel, I scrape it up and clean it. Sadly I don’t have any ground water collection here
