It's hard to believe, but sometimes customers, for whatever reason, don't want to pay for diagnosis. Possibly because "insert name of garage here" has already looked at it and said this is what it needs. I've personally been down that road, that's why I always do my own diagnosis, just like Ray did here.
@samishiikihaku

To be fair. He mentioned that many times while he was at the other shop, that he doesn't like doing that. Now that he has his own shop, he can make his own rules!
@Chrisamic
@Chrisamic Год назад
@@samishiikihaku To be fair, when you are working for a shop and you are given a work instruction like "replace the AC evaporator" then you are not going to be paid for a diagnosis. A work instruction to "diagnose AC not cooling" is a different thing. Ray isn't work shy, and one of his strengths is diagnosis before repair. Remember that Ray left his last job after undisclosed disagreements about they way they did things. Now that Ray has his own shop, it seems likely the conversations he has with his customers and his approach to that job is more in line with getting the best results for those customers. Sometimes what the customers think they need and what they actually need are two different things, or only part of the solution.
@mwoodall13
@mwoodall13 Год назад
Despite my strongest suggestions and even offering free diag in some situations…. Some customers will insist they know what the problem is (they don’t) and refuse a second opinion Most of the time it’s about not wanting to replace something that doesn’t need replacing, and also because that same customer will say “you did it wrong” and blame you for them being stupid

Through the magic of youtubers sharing their knowledge, I have fixed or rebuilt every aspect of my 2006 Chrysler 300c. I've replaced all components like sensors, pumps (including fuel), belts and rebuilt my engine and transmission. I still don't know what half the shit is called that I find myself working on, but I can go into disassembly and reassembly knowing that I will be able to repair or fix the problem. Now... If you have technical I.T. questions ranging from networking/network security to enterprise level I.T., I can help you. People like Ray are blessings to the common people.

As stated before the “schrader” valve is not the primary seal on a service port. You will never get them to 100% seal. The cap is the primary seal and needs good gaskets and tightened properly. Changing schrade isn’t going to stop the leakage. Making sure the caps fit tightly and seal will ensure the system is sealed properly. Many times when you remove the cap you will hear slight hiss as gas that leaked past Schrader valve but caught by the primary seal the cap.
@petersmart1999
@petersmart1999 Год назад
It will if that schraeder was proven to be leaking,I have changed thousands of them.The cap is only secondary ,the schraeder is actually a system component! Think of it tgis way,the wrapping paper is not the gift,nor is the box,Its whats inside the box!

Not sure if you are aware, but I have a 2003 and they had a problem where the temp probe on the evaporator was not in a good place, and while driving the probe temps never picks up that the core is freezing up. So what happens to mine is that the compressor does not cycle enough to keep the core clear of ice, and the airflow becomes restricted and eventually you get no cooling after about 20 min of driving in humid conditions. There is a TSB to relocate the temp probe. Not sure if the 2004 had a fix or still has the issue. Something to think about if you get a returning customer on this truck!

Ray's attention to detail and diagnosing the issue before throwing a major expanse at the issue (which ultimately would not have solved the problem) saved his customer a boat load of money. I had an issue with the evaporating coil in my 2006 Ram 2500 and they had to remove the dash to get to the part. Fortunately for my wallet, it was in 2007 and covered under the warranty. They commented that it was a two day job (the also provided a courtesy car at the time).

I had a busted blend door so I had to pull dash. New evap and heater cores, electric actuators, blend doors from blenddoorUSA, new weatherstripping gasket for the air box, liquid line and manifold, compressor, condenser, the whole nine yards. Dealership quoted me $3200 for the a/c job I done it for just a $1000 in parts. After completion a/c was 40 degrees at vent and on heat was 160 degrees

I have a 94 explorer, air didn't work when I got it, took it to 2 different mechanics, changed out most of the mechanical parts and gave it back to me saying it worked now. Problem was that it DID work like a champ on cooler days, temp would get down in the 40s. On a warmer day it would not work at all period. Got a old Chilton manual, started going through the schematics, and saw the relay in the fuse box for the ac. Being an old school aircraft electronics technician I knew what gremlins live inside relays so I went and got a $7 relay, slapped it in there and it's been fine every since.

Love your vids. I was leaving my dentist's office recently and as I was passing the receptionist, she reached too far and pulled the phone of off the desk with a bang. The dentist heard it and said, "what was that?" I said, "phone gravity". He said "Oh", and went back in his office. So, maybe I saved the receptionist from getting yelled at.

Hi Ray old buddie, talking about how good the heat pump makes cold air, In our village many took up the offer of an Air Source Heat Pump for hot water and central heating in our bungalows, as opposed to your front rads dissipating heat our freestanding AIRCON looking units blow cold air into the atmosphere to make hot water.. Anyway, we need heat in our lives more than cold so it's horses for courses eh - lol.. Many thanks again for your videos as I watch as many as I can find, much better than "Plastic TV shows" LOL.. What's next we all wonder.- Ian, retired next to the North Sea UK.
