My GE spacemaker microwave started making a lot of noise after 13 years of service. While I thought it was the fans, it ended up being a little electric motor called the stirrer motor.
Happened upon this video because I Googled Stirrer motor. I noted a motor of some kind with a circular area around it installed below the glass surface of my Maytag Microwave. When I start the unit up, I assumed the noise I hear is a fan noise (As you). Did not even know of a motor mounted below the glass surface of the microwave. Never heard anything there. Have to check this out by removing the lower panel of the unit again (Which is the exhaust cover above the stove). I had been thinking of dismounting the unit from the wall to get to the fan, but this is a big headache. Thanks for the video. PS, the magnetron in my unit feeds the cooking chamber from below the glass surface and explains why the stirrer is below the glass.
Good information. Mine makes the noise and then blows my fuse. I will work my way troubleshooting each component and see if I can narrow it down. Probably fine it will be cheaper to buy a new one especially if it is my capacitor or magnetron.
Was it also sparking? Mine gives buzzing popping sounds and sparking up in the top where the stirrer motor blade is behind the plastic cover. I cleaned the blade and cover but wonder if I should replace the motor
