Every once in awhile you find amazing free lessons on RU-vid. Derryl is a genius and has so much great content. He's not afraid to show you great riffs because he's so good this is nothing to him. Too many teachers post garbage all the time for views and charge for lessons like this. This is my favourite exercise right now. I played each one 10 times both ways till my hand just about fell off tonight. Try it if you dare!
Eric, I appreciate your comment. Thank you! Please consider supporting what I do by purchasing some of my courses. The best deal I offer is this flatfiv.com/products/the-derryl-gabel-ultimate-virtuosity-mega-pack
Derryl's videos are of the few that I can "like" without even watching it yet! I remember seeing a similar technique from Derek Taylor. Your level of musical knowledge is more vast than the gulf of Mexico, Derryl. Bravo!
Dude !!! Where do I sign. That was THE BEST guitar lesson I ever had. I must of been a hairs breath away from it for a long time and this made me sound jazzy. ... finally. WHY. I do the same thing with the modes and it doesn't sound like jazz to me. But this does. AND NOW going in and out of the modes sound even better. I will thank you with purchases. but, Thanks Derryl.
Great excercise! When I first heard you play one of those lines (fast), I didn't really knew what was going on. (This is the very first video of you I'm watching btw...) Just like always when good guitarist play those lightning fast lines. But fortunately, you made a slow and a medium version and this was very enlightening! And once again, it is more "simple" than you think. I guess, there is often the opinion, that those super cool (and fast) lines must be very complex to sound so cool. At least, I often think this. But "complex" AND "fast" is relatively limited. This is also a great excercise to work on (more) fretboard memorization because you eventually pass fragments of scales you usually don't play very often. Thank you!
Hi, first I love the exercise... now the example 5 and 6 there's is a discrepancy of what you are playing and what the chart is showing there's one note missing in the 2nd string is missing the E note on the B string.
