come on Ola... get serious here. Try running two mxr dimes, one into a Klon and the other into a Fuzz Face from 1969 then run them into two Dumble amps in stereo. Just an educated guess but im pretty sure thats how Hendrix did it

I think it is hard for people to accept the fact sometimes pedals that they think are good, just arent.

In most of the settings it sounds like being outside the closed room where someone is playing with a Dimebag-like dry distortion, but you never get to be in the same room as the amp

This pedal is awful. No pedal should require all these “tricks” to still sound terrible. MXR needs to apologize and remove the sucker from the market

Your need to run the DIME into a Line 6 spider 15 watt amp. Amp on Insane setting then use a fender squire (has to be a red one ) and use the neck pickup. Also helps if u use a 3.0mm pickup. Then chug away

I remember seeing this pedal in a Musician's Friend catalog. I thought it was super awesome and I needed to get one. Then I tried one out at a music shop and ended up buying a Metal Master instead. It was that awful of a pedal, that I actually picked the Metal Master instead.

This video is so good. I love how no matter what it either progressively sounded worse or that it just sounded like wearing ear plugs at practice.

I got this pedal when it first came out, I had it plugged into many different amps over the years and could never make it sound good. I still own it today, and the only reason why I held onto it, because It was a gift from my parents. They knew how much I love PanterA and dime. \m/

Typical Ola not using it correctly, You need a emg 81 in your guitar, then boost the MXR DIME by running a MXR 6 band eq into a OD pedal into the MXR DIME with all the knobs on full with the boost on, which is then run into the front of a 5150 on the drive channel which is then then patched into the FX loop of a 2nd 5150 but on the clean channel. Simple.

I think that the sound of the MXR Dime into clean channel of 5150 was pretty good. But hey, I also think, that one of the best distortion pedals ever is Digitech Grunge, so I think that my opinion doesn't matter ;)

Man, if you have to go through all that work just to make a product sound half decent, is it really worth it? I mean come on people, it's 2020, we have so many awesome options for great tones. I think a lot of people can't differentiate between 'wanting' something to sound and it 'actually' sounding good. Let's be honest, this item just doesn't sound good. At all--it sounds like ass. Your original video was absolutely spot on, and people get way too personal over things like gear and tones.

This is such a sad cash grab on MXR's part. It sounds like a Marshall JCM900, underwater with the speaker cab covered up. Really sad, since MXR makes some wonderful pedals, you'd think with something that has Dime's name, and by MXR, it would be halfway decent?

Best thing about this video was Ola's facial expressions at the results of some of the viewer's suggested settings XD Actually the setting with the pedal into the front of the amp did not sound bad. Oh, and now that you mention it Ola, here's my vote for an Ola designed Solar distortion pedal, c'mon do it!!! \m/

The secret to Dimebag's sound was in his fingers! Overall he had pretty terrible tone over his career IMO but his skill and personal tone made it what it is

i wouldn’t spend a DIME on this piece of crap.

I'm a huge Dimebag fan. He was one of the best metal guitarists ever, and he was probably the best metal guitarist to emerge in the last 30 years. All that being said; not everything with his name on it is going to be the best ever. Simple truth. He had a unique setup and a particular way of getting the sound he wanted. Luckily for all of us, that sound is amazing and we all wish we could sound like it, but we won't.

I guess most of these solutions were there to fix the low gain. Lots of the tone and the awfully wrong EQ is in the speaker/IR, it might just work better with some speakers than others. I'd also try using another EQ after it and fix it with that, maybe that would work. Another assumption is that it might've already had a cab sim built in somehow? Because it has this typical dark sound of cascading an IR into another IR or a real speaker.

I think you're still not "doing it right". If you chain 347 Boss MT-2s together, then run that output through an Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer and plug that into the front of a 5150 amp. THEN, you need to take the microphone output from the front of your cabinet and run THAT connection into yet another pedal board with 347 Boss MT-2s, then run THAT output into an Engl Powerball II E645/2 amp...AGAIN boosted by not one, but 164 Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamers and then run THAT microphone output into a Fortin Nameless Suite on your PC and THEN mic up a pair of ear buds plugged into the "Headphone Out" jack on your PC. Seriously...all you really need to do is spend about $37,630 to get the $30 MXR Dime pedal to sound good. No problem....everyone's doing it.

So it sounded "better" with some of those tips, but it still just has that "honky" characteristic to it. And whether it sounds good or not, it still doesn't really sound like DBD anyway

There "might" be a way to get a good sound out of ANY pedal...BUT, if a pedal requires more than 10 minutes of play around to GET a good sound...its a bad pedal. Metal Muff, DOD250, YJM Fender, Metal zone,Fatfoot...I can easily get a great sound out of these with any amp...(YES I did say Metal Zone...learn to use it!!!)...BUT, I had a boutique JMC800 emulator which I am NOT gonna name (but it was very expensive) which took me around 10 years to get a sound out of it....at least a good sound out of it.....

This pedal needs to be hot when playing with it. Try putting it in owen and warm it in 225° 5min, but don't overdo it. then plug it in Behringer V-ampire lx1-112 and put master volume on 3 o'clock. The more awesome V-ampire effects you have on the better it will sound.

Ola Please don't ever listen to your wonderful subscribers on a regular basis when talking about pedal or amplifier settings. Or when it comes to whether an amplifier or pedal is a crap. If Ola says it is poop, then it is poop end of story. I like the way that, You, Ola Englund makes the magic sound happen. I listen to Ola because I like the way Ola sounds playing guitar. I found when I tried my buddies into my clean channel 5150, pre amp at 4, eq at 666, presences at half and resonance around 7ish. That the pedal sounded best to me, level a little above half, eq bass around 10ish 11ish, the mids dimed (pun intended) and the highs just above half. Scoop button not engaged. Gain to taste. But when I played it I didn't get the it is a dime pedal. I got the it was a medium to higher gain distortion pedal. So I don't know if that helps. Personally not a fan of the pedal either

I had to turn up my computer volume for the first one. I've been hearing Ola's videos just fine the entire day up until he started playing on the first dude's settings. That means the tone doesn't cut through and it's missing some highs. That means it's not good. That means either your ear is bad or not even third party equalization can save the Dime Distortion. Either way it's not good lmao.

How you know some gear is just plainly bad: 1. Connected/used correctly, doesn't sound that great 2. Connected/used incorrectly...slight improvement

I also had this pedal..sounded like dogsh*t..then malfunctioned and blew 2 1980's Boss pedals that were in front of it in the chain. Threw it away..Still pissed.
