Diamine Inkvent Calendar 2021: Day 1, Seize the Night

This is a daily video series of the new red Diamine Inkvent calendar for 2021. Each day I'll open the day's calendar door and swatch the ink that's inside. Some days I may also compare some other inks, but mostly that will be all. Videos should be nice and short! There may be some spoilers if you read below this line... fair warning. It's also possible that the ink sequence may not be identical between calendars.
Anyway, this ink is Diamine "Seize the Night", which is a burgundy ink, leaning more crimson on some papers and more purple on others. I have not tried "Seize the Night" in any fountain pens, yet, so I can't comment on how it performs there, but with a glass dip pen it behaves like a typical Diamine ink: medium to wet flow, no feathering, no problems overall. A good, solid ink.

I enjoyed your videos this year so I went backwards a bit! This is my favorite ink in that whole calendar because it evokes the night sky when it's about to snow, to me. How different it looks on all the papers just makes it moreso.

Hey Matthew. That is a nice ink. I'll be honest. I've already watched a spoiler video for the entire lineup of the 2021 Invent Calendar. I'd get some of these later on, if they release these as a regular line with full sized bottles (Red edition perhaps). But I'm really looking forward to seeing them compared on the different papers as you did for this one. Waiting for tomorrow. 'Tis the season!

Some of these inks will be compared on multiple papers, but some of them probably won't with daily time constraints :-) Still, I hope they're useful!

Yes i agree!!! Seeing the ink on many different papers like this is something the other channels doing this arnt doing as much. There really are differences in tone and vibrancy. So cool

@@technoraptor7778 Very much so. Interestingly there are some papers similar to each other. For example, I use Tomoe River which I believe is close to the Cosmo. Just bought a Leuchtturm1917, but haven't used it yet. I hear its a bit more course. Rhodia and Triomphe are similar. But there is quite a difference between TR and Rhodia. So it will be interesting. Plus, I love Matthew's content. His intro reminds me of a lazy rainy day. So I'm really happy to see him cover the 2021 Inkvent. Sick username BTW, Technoraptor!!

😳 I haven't tried it on tomoe river yet! Wow all the colors really pop on that paper..its a super dark merlot purple..really nice for writing

Hey bud…really dig your videos. The production value is great. Have you thought about joining the pen addict slack group. I think you’d be a great addition over there. Your channel has been brought up a couple times on there. I would love to see your channel grow a lot.

Great video, Matthew! Thank you for taking the time to do it. I agree that this ink looks different on different papers. I also used TR and Rhodia, but also Fabriano. I posted my thoughts fo the ink on fpgeeks.

Oh, wow...thanks for this. I knew I should have done a better swatch with it when I opened it last night! To me it looked black with gold sheen, but all I did was use my glass pen and wrote with it, so I didn't catch that it was more burgundy...

I've seen a couple of people refer to this ink as "black", now, and it makes me wonder whether there's some variation in the ink that was packaged, or just in the way people are testing it :-) Enjoy your ink!

@@thewetpen Hmmm...maybe it's just the effect depending on nib...my glass pen is a fine-ish nib, so it looked black when I wrote with it...

As a, relatively, newbie to the fountain pen world I new nothing of a DIAMINE INKVENT CALENDAR... Oh, well 🙃 Maybe next year! I'll keep an eye out as soon as August arrives... 🤣

I think that I ordered mine from Cult Pens in September, and it arrived in late October. I told myself that I'd make all of the videos in November so that I could sit back and relax during the busy holiday season, but it didn't really work out that way :-)

I enjoy your videos VERY much! And, yes, I noticed that Cult Pens have the best/lowest price point... 😍 and some unique items (but thanks for the info!)
