When I first heard this band, it was his voice that turned me off. I was surprised this band was considered an influence on thrash metal. They sound more like a poor man's Led Zeppelin.
@@bramirez3330 Well the vocal may not be on Plant's level, but I think it's still very good and the music work is completely different, so it doesn't make sense to compare them
to be fair they called themselves "the natural successors to led zeppelin". the thrash metal influence comes from metallica and Megadeth citing them as inspirations@@bramirez3330 i still like seans voice
This is one of the best songs from the album Borrowed Time. I own it on vinyl LP and though i have heard it a thousand times i am still not tired of it!
Sean Harris may have been the most powerful frontman in British Metal history and the whole band were great musicians! Amazing solo from Brian. Been a Diamond Head follower for over half my life and I still marvel at those first two albums. Canterbury is good too, but very different. Unfortunately a million years ago Sean said they were gonna be the biggest band in England right before the first split and I've always found that sad. Still, a large loyal worldwide following to this day.
7 years too late, but here's an interesting connection. In 1980, BOC had a song called 'Black Blade' on their album Cultösaurus Erectus. The lyrics tell of a black sword that drinks the souls of its enemies, wielded by Elric of Melnibone. The lyrics of this Diamond Head song is about Elric of Melnibone's life
Ryan Thompson Guitarist Oh, wow, I’ve still got Cultosaurus on vinyl. I thought Black Blade was a song about something of that sort, but had never researched it. Thanks for the info, Bro!
@@roveroverdover11 Veteran of the Psychic Wars is another Elric themed song, and The Great Sun Jester is a reference to Moorcock's other work, he co-wrote both of them. He also did the same thing with Hawkwind on their Warrior on the Edge of Time album.
This album has one of the best 3 ending songs ever, Borrowed Time, Dont You Ever Leave Me and Am I Evil are just phenomenal tracks on an already great album.
God I loved DH back then. This was recorded at a cinema in Manchester with their full touring lighting rig, but no audience....and they're miming. But it's still magnificent. They really were this good from 79-82.
Funny you should mention Def :Leppard, this video makes me think of Def Leppard. Now DL with Pete Willis was much more heavy and he was the best lookin of them all, BUT, he had issues with Booze. I did like Pyromania BUT after that, it was only a song here and there that I liked. Now I LOVE Maiden and this band is NOT better than Maiden to me anyway.
THE BEST. The best metal band, the best rock and roll band EVER FORMED ALONG WITH QUEEN. God bless England for such great, emotional, powerful music. In my dreams I'd sing like Sean Harris- he is the greatest ever!
I'm so tired of hearing these comparisons to Zeppelin. They sound nothing like Zeppelin! Maybe short passages of some songs. But I think why people say this is the way Sean Harris sings sometimes, and especially the way he moves his hands and body. The same goes for Brian Tatler, the way he holds his guitar, the way he moves his hands. I'd say they're great fans of Zeppelin, for sure. But they are a fabulous band with great songs which definitely defined British Heavy metal of the eighties.
Brian Tatler is a huge fan of Zeppelin and Purple so I'm sure that the influence of those two bands creeped into Diamond Head...and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. We all have our influences.
I did love songs like "It's Electric",so this 2nd album was a bit too restrained to my younger taste, but year by year, getting older and older, this talks to my heart deeper and deeper.
My favourite song of the era. Bought their first two albums when they came out. At the time though we used to call them the HM band with the crappiest name of all. Now I wonder if this was part of their lack of success.
I have seen diamond head about 3 times at the Brunel rooms in Swindon originally they supported Iron Maiden then done a few gigs on their own. At the time it was a poor mans Led Zep but we all enjoyed them they had some good ideas. Good to know other bands are making a sucess of their songs ie Metallica
@IsolationInstigation Dude, when I first watched In The Heat Of The Night, I paused the video and pulled up a picture of Sasha Jenson from a stillshot of Dazed And Confused in another tab and looked at both pictures. They look identical. I pointed this out to my friends and they laughed about it. I'm glad someone else thinks this.
From 1:28 to 1:41, the riff sounds like Orion/Ride The Lightning. A few months ago, that donned on me that Orion and RTL are kind of similar. And hearing it here, it makes me wonder that even more, because I know that Metallica were heavily influenced by Diamond Head in the beginning, what do you all think?
They were totally going for that Plexi sound on this album, like their heroes Led Zeppelin, and distancing themselves from the speed metal of their early era. Still incredible stuff, though things would go south quickly with their follow-up album "Canterbury."
@Periah03 Because that's the way video clips where made back in the days. No super productions, no special effects, no shit. Just the band performing the song. See the old Iron Maiden clips and you will see they use to do the same way...
Loved this band till Canterbury came out was so disappointed, they fucked up changing their sound when everyone else was getting heavier?? Never the same after borrowed time🤘
anbody noticed how the lead singer looks like prez hilton...good band tho... got my big4 dvd other day saw them covering am i evile? so said check em out.
@Infernal01 haha, yeah i had to chuckle at sean a little bit too. amazing fuckin voice though, shit, with a voice like that, ya could hang a dead cat off yer package and i wouldnt care.
