Thank you so much. Silhouette should hire you! can't tell you how long I have been looking for your tutorial. They defiantly need to explain this and they do not! You also showed how hard that stick is to get out. i thought it was me. I was ready to pitch it when I found you !
That pen is fantastic. I found out after using the pen for some time, that pen is designed for scrap booking and that kind of craft. That slot is for curling paper or ribbons. With a couple of adaptions it is perfect for diamond painting. It works great as it is for rounds. But, I had trouble with squares until I painstakingly pushed a pink pen's tip into the tip of the pick-me-up, I secured it with a drop of super glue, I had to use pliers. I also used pliers to pull the stopper out, the putty is easily removable. You can add more tack if that's what you want. I removed all of the putty with a toothpick and replaced it with pink wax. Warning... It doesn't need much. If you add too much you won't be able to replace the plunger.
I need to get better at finding videos. I saw this was 9 months old, but I didn't know how to look for an update. Idea! Maybe when you update a video you can add your own comment saying it has been updated! I'm sure you already thought of that, I am so new at this. :-/
@@pcgal4319 that's a great idea 😊. The main point I had for this video was how to just use the pen as it is because I had seen so many people struggle with the cap alone. Seeing that this was not intended as a diamond painting pen, it is also aimed at those using it for paper crafts as well.
Thanks for this video! Mine is soooo tight I can’t move it counter clockwise so it’s a constant flow out. I capped it and will wait for my husband because I think he has a tool that will help in gripping it to loosen and stop the flow. From what little I got to use before it had too much tack sticking out, it seems super easy to use and nice.
Thank you for this video, I have seen so many other videos where they struggle and I thought oh no way am I going there, but now I have this tool in my amazon cart and I will purchase on my payday. Thank you. I hate having to refill my pink pen all the time, I don't get a lot of use between wax fill-ups lol.
OMG... Thank you!! You just made my day. I had to use my magnifiers to read the three lines of instructions on the stick but nothing worked. I had no idea the back of it came out until I saw your video. I had to get a piece of rubber mat that I use for jars that are hard to open to get the chiseled end out of this thing. Then I thought about using pliers to get the cap off because it just wouldn't budge. Twisting the top to get the putty out (or not) is weird in the way the top is either totally loose or not twisting at all. Well, the sticky part does it's job, so that's a plus. Thank you for your video. It saved me from bringing this back to the store thinking it was defective... lol.
That is the exact reason why I made this video lol. Just about everyone has an issue with it when they first get it. Instructions with pictures would have been nice eh? LOL
I got one of these quite awhile ago and liked it for the round drills. But I no longer do round drill pictures so I don’t use mine anymore. Btw - did you know you can buy a pack of stick putty to refill these? I used the Loctite brand (it’s blue) and works really well in this pen. There’s a video on RU-vid on how to refill it with the putty.
The first time you try to remove the plunger is VERY hard. I wrapped a small piece of cloth around the plunger and used a pair of pliers, grabbed very firmly and tried twisting back and forth and pulling it out. After the first time it gets easier. I do have to say if you decide to use the putty that comes with the pen it goes a loooooooooong way. PS the reason you may want from time to time to extend the putty is to clean the end from the dust that comes from the drills. That is not wasting any putty.
I saw another pen called quick stick and it is built much like this and found out the slots are for paper curling for people who do paper craft I was wondering if both tool are good for diamond painting guess I’ll have to check it out new to diamond painting
Doni, I think that slot you showed us is for inserting something so you have leverage to open the pen.( It will look like a cross when you put a flat edge in the slot).
Doni - this video popped up when I was cleaning out my mailbox. I watched it again and was wondering something: in case you can't find refills for this pens couldn't you put the pink wax inside the barrel? I seen somebody put blue tac in hers....
Yes, I put my favorite white Tack-it in when I refill it. Sometimes I can't reuse the pen though because sometimes I crack the plastic tip from pushing drills around.
to help cushion the spot where you put your fingers for grip, just use some vet wrap. Super cheap at any farm supply store, gives some nice cushion but peels off for replacement easy also.
I'm so glad I found your video! I literally got home an hour ago with my new pick me up tool, and I'll be using it for rhinestones Etc for paper crafting. But I was clueless, I discovered the pointy end pulling out, but beyond that I couldn't figure anything out! So thanks so much for clarifying
Thank you for that information! That should help others who are looking to get it right away and not wait 2 days or more to get it from Amazon or another site.
A rubber glove can help pull and or twist things off. Nice tips on how to use this tool . I was wondering about how to use certain parts of the pick me up. Are you supposed to load the tack and how?
The makers of the pen say it is not refillable, but I have heard from others that you just have to pull off the top and fill it with whatever tack you want to use and then stick it back on. However, it is not easy to pull off by any means. Thank you for the rubber glove tip. I never thought to do that.
Doni, I love you for this video! I bought one of these and received it 2 days ago. So yesterday, I spent 2 hours switching back and forth from this to the pink pen, because I could not get this pick me up pen to work properly. According your video, the sticky tack shouldn't come out past the opening. I had a small amount that was past the opening and it was a nightmare. Today, I pushed all that tack in like the normal drill pen, and let me tell ya, you are spot on! This works like a dream now! Thank you, thank you for this video! I was ready to toss the pick me up pen in the bin!
@@sylviegenest1888 you need to turn it clockwise and it will come out easily. You made sure to take the clear cap off first? That is why I made this video. I saw several people trying to figure this out and it was a simple fix but not obvious. Be sure to watch the entire video 😂.
@@DPbyDoni Cap is off. It will not turn. Maybe I got a defective one? If it won’t turn with pliers, something is wrong with it. Thanks for trying to help.
No, it is a very tight turn. So you have to put some muscle into it. Just be sure to do a tiny turn when tightening it or you will have a big stream of goop come out.
Yes that happens to me as well. I do the same thing with the turn. So every few drills, I am having to re-seat the head so that it isn't wobbling around as I use it.
I got both of mine at Michaels. They are in the Scrapbooking section where the Cricut accessories are located. Both times I paid $6.99. I have 2 because I like it so well that if I broke my current one refilling it I would have another.
Right! Sometimes I recruit my husband to go in with me. I made him download the app so he would have the coupons as well and we do 2 different transactions to get 2 items at the 50% off.
Diamond Painting by Doni. My husband does not own a cell phone nor does he use a computer. So I have to print the coupons for him. He absolutely refuses to get a cell phone. He won't even use mine. But I can't really get too upset with him because I refuse to make videos. I've always been very shy and I hate my voice. I was born right here in central Ohio but sound like I'm from the very deep South.
I understand being camera shy. I used to show my face in every video I did on my weight loss journey channel. But I can see how I have aged in the last 5 years and it has drawn me back into a shell. I will do face videos every so often, if you have noticed, but mostly I'm showing stuff so it's just easier to keep the camera facing down to the table. Printing out a coupon for him works as well as using the app at least :)
It’s a plunger. You pull it out. It is hard but it can be pulled out. I just refilled mine yesterday. It was hard to pull out the plunger and then clean out the remaining tacky stuff but I did it.
I am not sure if I will want to refill it if it is that hard. My wrists and fingers aren't as strong as they used to be hehe. At the price of $4.89 I don't think it would be something I couldn't just afford to replace once or twice a year. That's how long this will last me at the rate i'm going now lol.
Yes, that is the down side of using this tool for diamond painting. You have to "tighten it" quite often. But when you do, don't do it hard. Do a light tighten so that you aren't pushing any more tac out. Once I do need to push more tac out, I just press the tip down onto a hard surface to get the nib back into place until the tac is done pushing out. I hope that makes sense. Good luck!
I just got this today and your video helps a lot! It does take some getting used to. By the way, I wish I’d gotten it from Amazon instead of Michaels since I couldn’t use a coupon for it (something about the Silhouette company not accepting coupons). Maybe it’s just my Michaels :/ I think it’s also available at JoAnns.
I never go into the scrapbooking section, but I am in Joann's a lot! I will have to check the next time I'm there to see if they sell them in my local store. That is so strange that they wouldn't let you use a coupon on it at Michael's. I know certain things like "As Seen on TV" items can''t have coupons used at JoAnn's, but I don't shop at Michael's enough to know what items can't be used with coupons.
Diamond Painting by Doni I used my teeth to pull out the inside plunger to replace the putty, I would recommend using pliers. I refill with the loc tite using the other end to push in the putty, put plunger back in. Screw back together till putty just barely comes out, pull excess off. I find I only need to screw it in when it gets loose. I love this for crystal rhinestones, the regular pen with the metal tip can damage those.
Awesome!! Thanks for the instructions. I will remember that when I go to try to refill it. I have actually had some beads get chipped from my pink pen. I thought maybe it was residue, but it wouldn't wipe off.
When the tip feels like it is coming out, that is because the tac is pushing it up. The tiny hole that the tac comes up through takes a lot longer for the tac to push through so the tac just pushes the tip up. If you press your tip down onto a flat surface after you twist the top of the pick me up pen, it will keep your tip in there. You may have to do this several times, until the tac is finished pushing its way up through the tiny hole.
