Great tip on getting stripped screws out....put a rubber band over the head of the screws and then use the screw driver. Hope that makes sense and helps sir. Makes me wonder if they're using a stronger light in the second release compared to the first. I have the first and the deflector does bleed through some...but not nearly as terrible looking as the second release. That's disappointing.

I have the original 2007 release of this which is also see through. But it does have a more accurate paint finish with teal blue/green and light blue Aztec on the upper hull rather than the dark grey blue here. But it’s looking good on this 2012 one too. I fancy the 2014 clean version myself

Heads up,if you are looking to pickup the first release of the TWOK ship,it gone up in price!You are looking at price range of $100 to $250 on eBay for a mint or unopened factory sealed.I recommend collectors out there not spend more than $40 on the second version.

A good product for putting broken plastic back together is plastruct it's a liquid glue that fuses the plastic back together

Did they release this version again? I received my Starship Legends version of this a few days ago for my Birthday. It looks almost identical to this, however the deflector on mine does light up blue, the light bleed through is negligible compared to this and only the dome on the back of the saucer lights up rather than the whole are with the impulse engines. I was very pleased with it and especially love the "KHANNNN" effect.

With the art asylum one, the deflector on the top of the saucer and the impulse engines lit up as well

I have this version and I *HATE* the light bleeding through too. But as a model builder, the best way to prevent models from having that "translucent", see-through effect is to paint the whole interior *black.* It makes the ships look "solid".

Just to add, on my version (the 1st release), the deflector is indeed blue & has no light bleed on the star drive section. That being said, there is some light bleed issues for the sorcer section.

Is the Enterprise from Wrath of Khan being sold on Diamond Select right now either, the one your showing off in this review or is closer to the original version released, because I'm trying to get one right now and I want the best version of it at a reasonable price.

Bro I agree with a 100% on the lighting issues with this reissue!I was really disappointed with the light bleeding and the deflector dish not lighting up blue as it does on the first release 2007.And I don't know if you notice as well the empulse engine doesn't light red,it lights up the same color as the deflector dish(blackish/gray).It does seem DST has cut some cost on the reissue TWOK,and you are not the only one that is complaining about these issues.I have done a comparison vid of both releases and have recommended the first release is wat better product.I have actually taken out the batteries on this one and use it as a display only piece,cause the lighting issues really bother me!good review my friend!

The lighting effect isn't fantastic even if you imagine it without the bleeding so it would make a pretty decent display model. One could fix the light leak issue by taking the model apart completely and painting the inside with black, then white but you'd have to mask everything off very thoroughly to prevent overspray getting on the the outsides of the parts.

Just got mine for xmas and it's my favorite class of Enterprise too, but I do hate the light bleed through and iridescent finish. Mine had the nacelles already attached and crooked, the little painted black windows are way splotchy looking and no painted panel lines like yours. I got the Excelsior and it's got better detailing, everything was straight, and it's plastic was lighter weight but matte finish, darker and opaque with no light bleed through at all. Same company and same price, but so much nicer.

Anyone know where the screws are located for the saucer and secondary hull? I want to do some lighting work but don't know where the placements are. Thanks

The quality of the plastic on this is not bad it’s excellent it’s just that white plastic is see through without paint inside. However it is white plastic that is really lacking pigment and could be less see through. As per good old playmates :) I get the feeling the see through thing is actually supposed to be a bit of an artistic whim to allow it to be lighted in strange ways. But rally is a bad choice. They should spray them black inside but I guess the price would go much higher then. Still these have so much charm and geek out value who cares they are fun :) I have 5 versions so far. The original 2 twok ones one is battle damaged. The original and new a versions and the search for Spock destruct version. Love em all

Don't know if anyone is monitoring this thread or not but I'm hoping some one can answer a question for me. I just recently bought a 2009 DST "Classic" smooth saucer version of the Enterprise NCC-1701 from the Original Series. I love this version and I'm very happy to have gotten it, BUT....The previous owner must have been a smoker because just as soon as I opened the shipping box I could smell smoke and then once I opened the factory sealed box, I noticed a slight discoloration on the saucer. Both top and bottom appear to have as yellowish ring on the surface. Obviously it has to be from the cigarette smoke and must be a tar/nicotine stain. What I'm wondering is, if anyone out there has run into this problem before and if so were you able to clean it off without damaging the paint job underneath? Does anyone have a good suggestion for what compound to use? I've already done some reading up on the subject but am leery of some of the ideas I've seen on cleaning plastics. Somehow, using a Baking Soda and Vinegar solution doesn't seem right. I think the baking soda might be too abrasive and the vinegar would leave a lingering smell. The idea of using a foaming cleaner is more appealing but I'm just not sure if that is wise either? Any serious suggestions would be welcome.

To get the screw unstripped you need to put a small screw driver between the sections and lift at the same time you are unscrewing, that should let you get it open so you can replace the bottom.

Just to let you know you can contact Diamond Select Toys and they may send you a replacement stand.

I bought this (the TWOK Enterprise 25th Anniversary edition) a few years ago. I found it in my closet recently and finally put it out on a shelf, but I can't get it to sit on the stand at all. You said your ball joint was very tight, but mine has no tension whatsoever and the ship just basically falls right off. Insane design flaw, or am I doing something wrong? Please advise.

Damn, what happened to the quality? I've got the A, D, and the Bird of Prey and they're all heads and shoulders above that. Are you planning on getting/reviewing the Excelsior or B?

I have 2 wok ships in the red box first release and didnt know there was a difference from the blue box version.

there is a re release in 2015 with the plastic improved and the reflector dish improved.

I really don't understand why all of the ships in this line don't come with the display mode. I would love to have all of these lined up on a shelf with their lights all on.

@JTMitchell87 i believe i solved the mystery behind the 2013 Diamond Select's Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Enterprise Ship Black Deflector edition see in the motion picture , The Wrath of Khan and Search for Spock in Drydock and in space Dock when the Enterprise was powered down the Deflector looked Black !! i do have some pictures to share with you if you would like them for Reference ? see the hole premise of the Deflector was it's ability to change color black , clear , White in powered down mode White , Gray , bronze and yellow when at half power then Blue at full power ! but i do believe the "Black " deflector effect could have happened during the Blue screen process where the Deflector was Blue BUT !! because of that it looked black like the Background my theory . or maybe it was suppose to look black as stated as the refit Enterprise had the ability in the movie to change it's color leads me to believe this Black deflector edition is a Space dock / Drydock version . i hope that helps explain that .

Good sculpt, however the plastic is kinda cheap. Yeah the light either needs to be dimmer or the plastic needs to be less transparent.

I would be pissed off to pay $60 for that with the light bleed and the nacelles lighting looked crappy too

Also I have this as part of Star Trek The Official Starships Collection Also Im speculating the TOS version of this ship also comes in a later issue of it. The stand broke on my Enterprise E model, those ball socket ones suck! Its a major design flaw as they can't be replaced/fixed, meaning the whole ship cannot be displayed anywhere.

I own this ship, and it can't compare to enterprise b, or the bird of prey. I think their quality is going up. Maybe they'll rerelease it.

I have the original version of this model & it's absolutely amazing. The quality it simply amazing, however, they have gone down hill lately. If you want the TOS version of the enterprise, try and get the original version of the model. I got the HD version & the quality is terrible, there's even an exposed wire poking through a gap in the plastic! Also, I have the Enterprise B, it the best version of this ship, as far as I know playmates are the only other company who made one. My issue with that model is again, quality control. The most glaring issue - on the star drive section on the sides where it should say enterprise B - on the right side it actually says Excelsior. Annoying.

hey man...i looked closer and your version looks colored different. Mine is cleaner looking and looks more authentic than that one.

The deflector is blue while in warp and yellow/gold while in impulse. So...yeah. The colors are so wrong it's not even funny. That light bleeding is just unforgivable. If you really care enough, probably don't, just paint the inner hull black and problem solved. Though they should have done that to begin with.

They did a great job with the excelsior and bird of prey... However this was terrible. Even the nacelles light up a weird yellow color because they used a white led with really thin cheap blue... hopefully there is a re released and they do it justice... btw the bleed through is horrible!

Some serious bleed through on this... its a shame cause it is a very nice looking model. it is too bad they never followed up with a better led scheme

Why do companies think that there is red on the nacelle fronts......THERE IS NO RED!!!!!!!!! ITS ALL BLACK!!! Hate that.

These AA/DS colors look like hot garbage. They used the filming model as reference, and then boosted the contrast of those colors even more. The aztecing, spiraling and duck blue were never meant to appear like that on screen. Instead of the subtle aztecing and subtle contrasting of colors you remember, the AA gives you this garish, contrasty spiral lines, aztecing and dark seafoam green (for some reason) that just looks awful. Total fail.

The Wrath of Khan version is actually the better version of the Enterprise refit and actually more closely resembles the actual refit model from Star Trek: The Motion Picture! You are wrong! The Wrath of Khan version of the refit Enterprise IS THE BEST scale toy model representation of the much more detaled and shiney look of the Enterprise from Star Trek The Motion Picture. Right down even more accurately painting on of the Aztec patterning that was only just shown molded into the plastic on the original release! The Wrath of Khan version is the much more thoroughly detail of the two versions! I have both. The Wrath of Khan version is, by far, much better detailed and accurate of the two versions!
