It is unfortunate that the stones are different sizes and dramatically different cuts. Itt renders the comparison useless.

Well, it was a great comparison for me as someone who wanted to see how moissanite is cut compared to a diamond. Only commenting so no one else is surprised like I was: If you're buying moissanite, expect it to be cut like the one in the video unless it's specified otherwise-- so, the cut difference I think deserves to be here.

@Princessbridediamonds Год назад
That's exactly the purpose of this video: to showcase the different cuts. Moissanite and diamond will be cut differently, which is what the video compares. If all the stones were identical, then a comparison video wouldn't be needed. Harro Gem Moissanite has two different facet styles, at least five for diamonds and one for the Charles & Colvard moissanite.

Jewelry companies: "Moissanite can never sparkle the same as diamonds." Me: "You're right, because moissanite's sparkle is superior!"

Just leaving some numbers here. Facts don't care about your feelings Moissanite Refractive Index: 2.7 -> higher Diamond Refractive Index: 2.4 Moissanite Dispersion: 0.10 -> higher Diamond Dispersion: 0.04 Moissanite cleavage: Indistinct --> doesn't break. Diamond: # 4 planes

The crushed ice effect of the diamond is the best looking one

I agree but its not the best diamond there is. However the two moissanite are hazy compared to the transparent diamond.
@Mat-hr1dg
@Mat-hr1dg Год назад
@@pumpkindiamond994 Even the best moissanite looks somewhat hazy under diffuse light, but has a lot more fire under LED or halogen light as seen in this comparison. It's just part of the doubly refractive nature of moissanite.

@@beartutor3377 What kind of idiotic answer was that? Mine was a fact too but actually relevant to the topic. Moissanite is by far my most beloved synthetic stone. My wife has one in her engagement ring because I loved the stone so much and she did too so there goes you wrong idea about my preferences. If you use the "facts don't care about your feelings" argument at least use it properly, and not because of your own misguided feelings towards someone you don't know, so it doesn't become tainted by inflationary misuse. Also higher numbers don't automatically mean "better". In some rings I would clearly prefer the more icy look of a crushed ice diamond over a Moissanite no matter how much I love Moissanite. The crushed ice cut doesn't take the double refraction into account and it's actually pretty complicated to account for it in such a cut anyway. I won't claim it is impossible but there hasn't been anyone who has developed a working crushed ice look for double refractive stones yet. Single refraction is just a lot better for that purpose. Period.

In shade, the Diamond looks dead.
@ingridkiss3402
@ingridkiss3402 3 года назад
I think it is the shade that makes the diamond stand out. It has depth, rather than shallow facets similar to a sequin, which the Moissy. Moissanite is nice if you like rainbow sparkle but for a semi-educated eye it will never pass for a diamond. I have both and, no matter how many side by side videos, truth is there is no comparison, a diamond is a diamond.

@@ingridkiss3402 I agree. With the diamond it's like you can look into the stone but with the moissanite they both look flat. The sparkle of a real diamond is more impressive and classy looking like it's the right amount of fire and depth combination. Moissanites that are too large look like costume jewelry to me. I much prefer the price though so for someone like me I can get moissanite to save money and look good enough while spending very little but I would never say that it looks as good as a diamond.

I imagine that genuine diamond has reflections like glass broken into small pieces where shapes arent identical and arent on the same level..whereas moissy has patterns like mirror..like it was arranged on that certain level..just my thought .plsdontjudge😅

The Charles and Colvard moissanite has the best cut of all three. If it would have been as badly cut as the diamond, it's ability to sparkle would be similar.
@reginap.255
@reginap.255 4 года назад
not really, the C&C is cut like a brilliant cut and doesn't follow the usual cushion cut parameters. I believe they do this because of brilliance
@leifruckwardt9990
@leifruckwardt9990 4 года назад
@@reginap.255 Well that's what I ment. The typical cushion cut happens to be a so called crushed ice look. Most of the upcomming light, or at least a part, won't be reflected back what results in a less sparkling diamond (pinpoint fire) or moissanite if it would have been cut in the same way. In a crushed ice cut, you can often see through the stone to the background, thats because the facets aren't reflecting the light properly and it's appearance would be less white. To have a good example of a side by side compilation of the difference between the sparkle of a moissanite and a diamond you would need stones which are cut the same way, in the same (hopefully) good cut quality.
@reginap.255
@reginap.255 4 года назад
Leif Rückwardt It’s a cushion cut there is no such thing as crushed ice cut in diamonds..you only need an included diamond for that look..and that diamonds looks included. i think i had read somewhere that they don’t do “crushed ice” cut on c&c moissanites simply because of the double refractive index nature of the stone which makes the end result look not so good.
@leifruckwardt9990
@leifruckwardt9990 4 года назад
@@reginap.255 I'm sorry but if you would take a little turn through google, you will see that of course there are existing so called modern facetted cushion cut diamonds with crushed ice effect. Those cut stones can have inclusions like all other diamonds will show except the flawless ones. Even hearts and arrow cut diamonds does have inclusions, because diamonds are a product of nature, even the lab created does have them. I am always open for critical argumentation but the arguments should be based on a serious research first, alternative facts are not my way of discussing things.
@reginap.255

Leif Rückwardt Leif Rückwardt ok, i did search on google “moder cushion cut with crushed ice effect” just for the sake of it and all google finds is basic cushion cut diamonds which ofc existed. So you mean that YOUR opinion is that the modern cushion cut looks more like a crushed ice effect? That’s lovely but it still not the point of this conversation is it? The “crushed ice” effect is a word made up after diamonds simulants were born, and the ONLY way a diamond gets a crushed effect is NOT by cut but by several inclusions. Also yes flawless diamonds exist.
