Glamor. Fashion. Elegance. Decadence.
It's that time of year again!
Johnny's Birthday: Diamonds & Pearls Party!!
Break out the big earrings, kids, I'm slinging bling on this birthday!! We're bringing downtown hedonism to Madison Avenue for one night of lavish and unbridled debauchery!! Dress to impress, dress to undress, just make sure it sparkles!! And remember, falling over drunk is still classy if you do it in six inch Louboutins!!

Be There!!

I had an aunt almost like this. Well, great aunt. My grandfather's sister. Everyone thought she was a loon, but I loved her to pieces. Aunt Laura always grew a huge flower and vegetable garden. When she harvested whatever, wore a huge straw hat, carried a basket and shears. She'd sing nonsense songs at the top of her voice. She reminded me a lot of Katherine Hepburn. Lived in a large cottage in the woods of rural Oregon. I wanted to live with her so much. I still think of her now and then even after all these years.

This 1920's decor with an Oriental theme is my favorite incarnation of all versions of this apartment.

I have always loved the final Indian themed version myself. But they are all great. The fact they didn't win the Oscar for Best Art Direction-Set Decor, or any of the other 5 nominations for that matter, is simply a crime.

@julistarling8382 2 года назад
He's not that little, but okay. Time was, I wouldn't have thought a medium-sized kid was "little" at all, but now I can sort of see what people mean with "small boy" and "small girl" and "little kid" and "young child" when the kid is not that little any more. I think his approximate age here is 8 or 9. With his son being the same age or same age range at the end.
@retroguy9494

@@julistarling8382 I meant 'little' as in age. And 8 years old IS considered a 'little' boy!

An absolute top drawer production. Lucy should never have made the remake.
@retroguy9494
@retroguy9494 2 года назад
Lucy did NOT do the remake of THIS film. The movie Lucy did was a musical based off the Broadway musical with Angela Lansbury. This movie was based off the book and the ORIGINAL play which was NOT a musical. You can in no way compare the two.
@julistarling8382

I like/love Lucy but she is *not* Auntie Mame. Rosalind Russell was and is the *only real* Auntie Mame we have had in a movie so far. She's the best. The songs were good in the musical though.

No one--but NO ONE--could make an entrance on film like Rosalind Russell. Note the lesbians in this scene. I swear--this movie just gets better and better with age, like Mame herself. It's one of those movies that you can't stop watching. If you watch so much as a few minutes, you want to see the whole thing.

@Humphrey Hogan Some look at the art of the film. How it managed to get a point across, is all. No one is bashing the lesbian thing. It's just that at that time, that wasn't shown in film. They cleverly slipped it in to show how delightfully bohemian and liberal Mame was, while her dead brother was super conservative. I LOVE this film!

The snappy bits with guests are not just funny, the message is both "I am uninterested and also disinterested" (no, they're not the same); they contrast with the sincere attention she gives Patrick. You know he's what she cares about. In many films, the scenery and costumes are just that. In this movie, the beautiful interiors and gorgeous clothes and brilliant people come and go, but he's constant. well almost.

The movie had a lot of gayness over it. And that in a time when Gay was unspeakable issue. But the right eye sees more!
