Спасибо за реакцию, вы супер! Но судьи, конечно, знают эту песню, их недоумение - они не могут привыкнуть к певческому многообразию Дианы. Кнопки нажимают в последний момент, так как просто унеслись чувствами в иной мир, это ощущение Диана очень часто вызывает. Я, когда первый раз слушала "Реченьку", после этого не могла какое-то время говорить, казалось, что звук собственного голоса разрушит эту магию.

About the song "Rechenka": This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage. She says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper. These are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying. In Russia, at weddings they sang sad songs to scare away evil and the marriage of a young couple was to be happy. Such songs were called “weeping.” The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest.

The song "rechenka" (affectionate from the word "river") is a Russian folk ritual wedding song. There is a version that this song appeared before Christianity, and since early Christianity and paganism were closely intertwined, there are many versions of this song. It tells how an orphan girl comes to the river and prays to the spirits of nature. The song is about how my mother, father and brothers were killed by enemies, there is no one to take care of her. The river in Ancient Russia was considered the border between the world of the living and the dead. You hear an ominous whisper, it's the spirit of her late mother responding to the girl's crying. There are about 30 variants of this song, but the content of each of the variants is based on the sad appeals of the orphan bride to her deceased parents, asking them for "blessings" and help for marriage, for family, to strangers. There are other versions of this song, where the heroine appeals to her brothers and even to her parents with a call to return to earth in the form of a bird to her native home. At the end of the song, the girl sails away to a strange tribe, to a strange family. The roots of the song go back to ancient Russia, it is a very, very ancient folk folklore.

Thanks for the nice detailed comment. I am not aware of other versions of this song, but specifically in this version there is no mention of how the relatives of the orphan girl died. So, I am inclined to believe that the girl's mother drowned, because the river answers the girl's prayer with the voice of her mother.

@@user-dy2mx2ub4u безусловно, я лишь предположила, точного ответа песня не даёт. Просто такой сюжет мне кажется более драматическим, романтическим и мистическим. К тому же, если реку воспринимать только как дорогу в мир мёртвых, то мать должна была уплыть и оставить этот мир. А тут есть ощущение, что мать слилась с рекой, здесь же и осталась в месте утопления. Но в любом случае это лишь моя версия и не более.

Nothing phases Diana when she's singing, did you notice that in full song she was bodily lifted off the stage and into a boat? Most people miss that because the song and performance are absolutely riveting! Remember that Diana spent time in an orphanage then read the lyrics and the story as Diana sang this ancient folk song here:- THE SONG (As Diana sings it here) "You are a river. My dear river. You flow and do not splash." Wonderful reaction! Rechenka means "the River". The song is based on Russian folksongs about a betrothed orphan girl who goes to the river (the boundary between the living and the dead) to ask her deceased mother's blessing for her upcoming wedding. The spooky whisper is her mother's reply. She laments her loveless arranged marriage, and then travels down the river to her unknown fate. She was 14 when she sang this on the show You Are Super, a singing competition for orphaned and disadvantaged children. Diana had a horrendous start to life, being beaten, deprived, almost drowned, and then abandoned by her birth mother. During this show she had lots of difficulties with almost losing her voice, and her birth mother threatening to take Diana away (due to her new national recognition). Guards had to be placed at the studio to look out for the birth mother.

Good review. The basic story is of an orphan girl on her wedding day going to the river (the dividing line between the living and the dead) to seek her parents blessings. It's amazing that, at 14 years old, Diana could put so much emotion and longing into this performance.

Oooo! I love this so much. I've seen/heard it multiple times and it stops me in my tracks every time. The story is that she is a young girl whose mother has passed. She is to be married and she has come to the river to speak to her mother's spirit that lives there. It is ancient and filled with magic and spirits etc. are everywhere. Hi Jess, hi Mike, "What even is this?" This ist very special. Not everyone can do that. Diana can do that. Diana is always good for a vocal surprise. And here you have a lot of them. Even the judges can't believe what they're hearing. A singing teacher once commented on this song that if he wrote down all the singing techniques Diana uses here, he would have a list of all the singing techniques. The song is about an orphan who is about to get married and goes to the river to talk to her parents and ask for their blessing. The river is the connection to the world of the dead. The celebration can be heard in the background. That's the swinging part of the music. You probably already know that Diana was in an orphanage. It seems to be her song. Hence all the emotions she expresses admirably here. Diana's acting, the scenery, the dancers. She will have to do have something even more epic to overcome this performance as being the highlight (so far) of her career. It seems that anything Diana decides to perform is above anything that most artists do. She was 14 going on 15 when she did this performance...it did not matter to people, I know, here in the US, that we had no idea what she was singing about - you could just feel it in your soul! Когда вы смотрите на прекрасный собор Покрова на Нерли или деревянную церковь в Кижах - вам не нужно знать, какой это век, какой стиль, каким образом это построено. Человек, способный видеть и чувствовать красоту и гармонию - увидит и почувствует их и без дополнительных разъяснений. С этой песней примерно то же самое: 14-ти летняя девочка сотворила на наших глазах настоящую поэзию из звуков и образов - и эта поэзия понятна каждому, кто вообще способен воспринимать поэзию...

This song is about a girl in her wedding day. She is sad because she has no father or mother to bless her in such a day so she goes to sit by a little river to ask its blessings instead as water sources and water flows had magics and powers. That airy grunt is the voice of the spirit of the little river or stream and the bouble hammering vibrato (kind of yodeling) has a spiritual calling meaning too. Женщина в очках в конце видео,это приемная мать Дианы. Диана была брошена на остановке родной матерью. У девочки была сломана ключица,она плохо говорила и заикалась. Приемная мать забрала ее из детского дома. От заикания Диане предложили начать петь. Вот так,благодаря приемной матери,родилась и выросла наша звезда Диана Анкудинова!

If you knew Diana's life story you would need tissues. The lady with her hands clasped in front of her is an angel on earth that resued Diana from a Russian orphanage where she worked. Diana could not talk after her abusive negligent mother left her in the cold Moscow streets with a broken collarbone at 3yrs old. Her other siblings did not survive, (7 or 8 I think). Her family did not want her and put her in an orphanage. They thought she was defective in some way. Her adopted mother put her in singing lessons to help her develop speech. She overcame immense odds to get where she is today. Truly a miracle.

I will explain to you the meaning of this old Russian song that was sung during the wedding. Since a much shortened version was made for the modern stage, not even all Russian people understand its meaning. An orphan girl from a foster family is married off (most likely, to a man older than her and not of her own free will). She comes to the river (reka), affectionately calling it rechenka. The river in the folklore of many peoples is the border between the world of the living and the dead. She turns to her deceased parents: she asks for advice and blessings. An orphan girl is faced with a choice - to drown herself, committing the sin of suicide, or still accept the circumstances and "go with the flow". What will she choose? This is decided by the audience together with the performer of this song.

Thank you for your reaction 🤍 A quick history about this song: This is an old Russian folk song about an orphan bride who has no parents to give blessings to her marriage, so she goes to the river, which represents the border between the living and the dead to ask for a blessing from her mother. The part about the horses in the yard just means that there are a lot of people gathered at the celebration, but nobody who can "give her away" in the traditional sense. That creepy whisper was the voice of her deceased mother, and the yodeling part was her weeping.

This is another mind-blowing performance by young Diana. The song leaves a very deep impression. The Queen of Goosebumps never disappoints. Btw you can hear the word "rechen'ka" two times in this song. I'm happy that Diana continues her musical career and issues new songs from time to time. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far Eastern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. Diana is magical. A couple of English titles you would like are her covers of Take On Me and Human. I'd encourage you to listen to Revelation (Mood Video), and it's in Russian. She has two uploads on her official RU-vid channel but the other one is a lyric video in Russian. It was released a Month ago and it's a Diana original and has quality English subtitles. People familiar with Diana's back story knows this is a song she wrote about her life.

Mike and Jess, Diana Ankudinova was only 14 years old when she performed Rechenka. This performance took place on May 12, 2018 during a talent contest for disadvantaged teens on a television show called You Are Super! During this contest Diana sang four songs, "Dernière Danse", sung in French, "It's a Man's Man's Man's World", sung in English, "Rechenka", sung in Russian and "Tomorrow is a Lie", sung in English. It was during this 2018 competition that many vocal professionals started giving Diana Ankudinova serious attention due to the tone quality, timbre, roundness, fullness, and depth of her sound in her lower range. Many believed she is on her way to developing a true contralto voice type. For those that don’t know female voice types, a contralto is the lowest type of female voice, and a true contralto voice type is very, very rare and Diana is starting to exhibit all the signs of developing into a true contralto. The big question most people ask is, how does she do it? How can such a young female singer reach such a low, rich, deep, and profound sound? Without actually being able to scope her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals simply attributes Diana’s low, rich sound to her winning the genetic lottery and just being born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana’s vocal folds appear to be longer and thicker than most female singers. Also, her larynx also appears to be bigger and her vocal track similarly appears to be longer than most other female singers. The Show is named "You are Super"and is created for disadvantaged children as Diana who was abondend from her alcohlic mother who want's to kill Diana and abused and mistreated her! At the age of 3 She left Diana at a Bus Stop in the middle of winter with a broken collarbone!.Her aunt found and rescued her but can't take care of Diana for a longer time, though she spoke with the prosecuters office in Togliati and they decided to give Diana in good hands in an orphanage where Diana lived traumatized and suffering with stuttering! Diana live there till the age of five,but a massage therapist named Irina Ponik has fallen in Love with little Diana and decided to adopt her. After a lot of Papierwork Diana was adopted and get's psychological treatment and a music therapie to overcome her stuttering! Diana discovered her Love to music and from now on she joined every contest which was available and won about fifty Contests nationwide such as the two Contests 'you are Super in 2018 and 2019 and she won both contests and gains hundreds of millions views in the Internet and became famous all over Russia!

It's good that you explain the song for them. The versions I have seen with captions are just "word salad" with no meaning. Also, notable in this version, her voice isn't affected at all by being picked up and set into the boat. That's amazing control. I first watched this about 3 years ago and had to find out more. She is one of my top 3 favorite performers. I didn't care much for Pugacheva's version and it was, as you say, very different.
