Diana had already known she lost. She had seen the results, and was asked to perform this song. Performing this song, with the strength of the lyrics, must have been unbelievably difficult. She was 16. Amazing kudos to her for this performance.
I saw an interview with her that she knew had lost when they asked her to sing this song again because she knew they wouldn’t have had her sing it in the middle of the finale and then again at the end if she had won.
@TheOfficalTrumpMan 2024 yea I knew about that as well. But there is also an interview where she said she knew she had lost by the song they asked her to sing.
This individual performance is why Diana DeGarmo was so awesome in Season 3. By this point, she knew that she had already lost, and yet was able to go out there and give one of her best performances in the entire season, fantastic. For someone that was only 16, knowing that she had already lost, brilliant composure, and despite what Simon always said, age was never an issue for her.
Haven't heard this in years but have to say, she actually does a good job here. She sang this with a lot of passion and a lot of emotion, so it sounded really good. And, she looked cute, too! Have to take my hat off to her, this was really good:)
She ALREADY KNEW that she had lost in this performance. With THAT circumstance, and with THIS performance, i think it's an amazing and very emotional performance. Hands down for her.
Amy Johansen This is the type of pop ballad that would be at the end of a Disney movie, which is Diana Dagarmo’s genre. Fantasia’s genre is more soul, jazz and blue which this song is not. Fantasia just has a edge on Diana in being able to switch genres and be more versatile. She sold the song better.
+Afiq Aziz Fantasia got better as well. I'm sorry but there is not competition, Diana can sing well but Fantasia is a stellar performer that always sings with passion. She's almost out generation's Patti tbh
She had no chance!!! Just wasn't fair for her. She did ok, the best she could. But Fantasia tore this song up!!! Fantasia sang the h*** out of this song!! Diana didn't stand a chance!!!
She sang the song well but she couldn't beat the emotion Fantasia puts into the song. She was going against a true Soul singer and a performer like Diana DiGarmo just can't compete against that. It was like a Gospel singer against a Disney park performer. You don't feel anything when Diana sings this song. Now the Final 2 sings different songs crafted to their specific voices.
This is my favourite performance in all of American Idol. She is 16 in front of the world and at this moment she admitted later she already figured out she lost, but she still gives a pretty incredible performance even though at the start you can almost see her fighting back tears. Not her best, but damn she showed heart
Miss Diana Got the Talent needs a little fine tuning, but I believe she could be an Amzing super-Star ! Trust me on this one!! That Girl 100% has something I feel it!!! Movies/TV/ Award Shows/.. Etc.., Keep Flying Diana! Love Kelly n Canada
lol, look at the choir while Diana is singing, now go look at them in Fantasia video....they could not contain themselves while Fantasia was singing! They look bored here!
That was nice she has a wonderful voice Her version was different than Fantasia's own but then maybe that song wasn't for her. Her voice is more of pop voice while tasia's own is rock soul r&b mixed.
They both did great. No matter what Diana is a great singer. I love Fantasia's version of this one, but Diana didn't make it there just because of her pretty face. She has some pipes on her!
First of all, let's ALL get this straight: SOUL music is called that because the feeling of the song comes from the "down deep into" ones soul. If you're a singer and you can't move people with your song, or it doesn't make people feel something within, you DO NOT have soul, that DOES NOT mean you don't have A soul. Soul isn't a color!! And SECONDLY! Fantasia can sing ANYTHING within, AS WELL AS outside her "genre" WHATEVER THE FLUCK that sh!t means!! She's sang from George Gershwin to Barbra Streisand, so PLEASE! MISS ME and all others, talkin' 'bout that song wasn't Diana DeGarmo's "genre"! White folk LOVE IT when a fellow white singer emulates the "sounds of Blackness"! My people KNOW I ain't lyin'!! Y'all take them and parade them around as if they were the best thing since sliced bread! Case(s) in point: Elvis Pressley; Britney Spears.
while i do prefer fantasia's version, i saw this video and was blown away by Diana's soulful rendition. she's got her own interpretation, and it's not that i don't like it -- in fact, i love it -- but it's all a matter of taste. and i just prefer fantasia's rugged tone that many people don't like (which is totally understandable). loved diana's, nonetheless.
I'm not going to say this was Diana's best performance but it was way better than the first time around and I still love it. If you ask me, her best performance was "One Voice".
@saushababetta you know it's not even about conditione or control...because even with it a true artist with a big soul, an amazing feeling, fantastic emotions and deep deep voice can bring people heaven when he sings. like Barbra Streisand said "it's the imperfection that makes things interesting." But Diana doesn't have anything of those things. She's only not so bad, nothing more.
Wow, I thought her performance wasn’t the best the night before. She went out of key a few times, especially the last note. This performance was perfect. She was on key the entire song and dialed back at the right moments and hit the high notes. I do think Fantasia’s voice fit the song better. But this performance changed my opinion on Diana’s performance the night before.
Personally I liked Diana's version better than Fantasia's because Fantasia's voice is kind of raspy and Diana's is smoother. But I agree that Jennifer Hudson deserved to win this season.
I loved Diana, was so upset that she lost. Fantasia had some soul and all, but I still felt Diana sang it better. Would love to have seen Diana go big though. You never hear anything about most American Idol winners. There's only been a few that went big. Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson.
So wow...here we are still playing and talking about the 2 performances. What I find that is most interesting is the comments that Fantasia's blessing and skills were inferior to Diana's. What planet were/are you people on??? Fantasia was absolutely FANTASTIC throughout her ENTIRE time. With each performance, they BOTH got better. But, clearly Diana's coach did not arrange her performances correctly, which is what added to the lack of experience, thereby her losing. But, she is making music now.
I think Diana should've chosen to sing "Dreams" and left Fantasia with this song. Diana did really great, but Fantasia nailed it way more. 'Love them both!
@midniterider78 i think they both did very well. fantasia has an unusual voice that ppl were intrigued about.. i think that's why she had an advantage. but they both are incredible singers. and diana degarmo is signed as well.
If u ask me, she was young then, and her vocal chords weren't stretched properly yet. So when she reaches high notes she ends up 'shouting' instead of singing. Experienced it when I was young.. Unlike Fantasia she had a mature voice and vocal chord already so she had more emotion in it and didn't sound like shouting. So that time Fantasia deserved it coz she was the better woman, but now with Diana older her vocal chord mature it might have been a tougher competition for fantasia.
Can someone please PLEASE explain to me how the results show was set up? If I have this correctly they SCHEDULED Diana to sing her encore in the middle knowing that fantasia would sing hers at the end when she won...? So they basically knew the results....? Wasn't that obvious then? Do I have it wrong?
