With "Max" her ex-lover, benefactor now chauffeur & butler played by Berry Gordy, the monkey being buried in her backyard? That's her now dead career! Lol... TWTR4EVER Dont forget their last hit, " U Are The Heart Of Me", where Mary sang the song as lead singer & Scherrie & Susaye was in the dark background. All the haters said Diana was hogging all the attention, then Mary turn around & do the same thing. Now if this isnt a double standard, I dont know what is.

@@reglook1 It's okay to like Florence, or Mary and Cindy, without a nasty Diana comment. Like it or not, Diana had the "it factor/star quality." The same goes for singers like Mick Jagger, James Brown, Cher, Janis Joplin, etc.....the best voice isn't always the one who's at he front of the stage.

The background vocals were usually from The Andantes and The Originals. The Andantes did all the background vocals on ''Love Child'' and many more after that.

@@mowestjohn The Andantes came in after Flo left. Berry Gordy wanted the Andantes on the Happening but Flo fought against it according to what I read.

@@jackanthony976 Well it was in Cindy Birdsongs contract not to record with another group. The girls never made major decisions for the group. Remember, the sixties, they had input on make up and gowns. Like Mary said, she felt really unimportant when their was no need to record. It became a lead and background singing.

Noelle Bellante At first Mary was a hater, but rightfully so, they started out as a group where all three could individually sing, & then suddenly only one was doing all the singing & the other two was just backgrounding was totally unacceptable, but because it was their dream, to sing & be successful, Mary & Florence just let it go on until they realized what was going on, one singer & two background singers, but by then it was too late, the train had already left the station. Looking back @ early videos, one in particular, where they were singing "When That Lovelight Start Shining Through His Eyes" u could already see the permanent formation of the group, Diana in the front, & Florence & Mary were singing nearly fifteen feet behind & to the side of Diana. An old adage of yesterday says " Dont start what u cant finish", so they started out w/ Diana in the front, & Mary & Florence in the far behind, & thats the way they ended. Case closed!

Berry was going for that commercial sound. Not to offend the audience of soinding too ehtnic. Florence had a much more soulful sound and stronger voice than Ross, but Berry didn't want another Aretha style female singer in his stable.

Yes . I love your comment. There are some artists who are grounded in the history of pop music and the motown beat. I love a deep bass back beat contrasted with passion and treble. Just can't feel the angry music lyrics. Thats just me.
