This is one of my favorite songs. I am from Philly and do know Renee. She graduated Northeast High. When she cut the record I was going into the Navy in 1964 from Northeast High. A super voice and a great person. I did marry a South Philly girl and this record brings so many memories.

Funny how a schmaltzy little record like this can just make you smile and think about the days gone by. I too am from Philly, and yes, I too joined the "Nay-a-vy". I guess what brings back such good memories is listening to this when I was a kid, and now realizing how much she loved him and pined for him while he was away. In her own way, Diane and her "sailor" songs gave a lot of us a good feeling, knowing there was somebody back home waiting for us.

That's the best and cleanest version of that song I have ever heard. It sounded like a wave file instead of a distorted mp3. Keep improving the quality of music of these classics as they richly deserve cause nothing produced today sounds like them!

I was having a dinner with my family in a landmark restaurant in Manhatten, NYC, and i noticed Diane came into the same restaurant with her family as well. She already had this hit song.I didnt bother to talk to her because i am kind of shy at times and she was busy with her family. I made quite a few records but never got a hit. Wonder what she looks like these days?

MusicMike, you have made listening to music that I thought was lost from the world quite easy and convenient. Thank you for existing! Also, without your endorsement of "Hard To Find Jukebox Hits: 1964" (which I have since purchased) I would still be without this classic hit in my collection!

I was born two years after this came out and never heard it before. It was referenced in Stephen King’s novella “Hearts In Atlantis” as an example of one of the records in Nate Hoppenstand’s record collection, to which his fellow college student Skip Kirk says “this really sucks, Natey, it truly does” or something to that effect. Nate would later graduated to Phil Ochs and they would all spin “I Ain’t Marching Anymore” as they became more aware of the meaning of the peace sign and the police action in Vietnam heated up. It’s a phenomenal story and I recommend it whole-heartedly. Stephen King himself narrates the audiobook version and it is brilliant.

it's nice to hear this one in stereo after years of electronically reprocessed stereo versions. it was recorded in mono in late 1963. It's been said that Dickie Goodman was running 20th Century Fox Records in 1963-64 before it was sold to ABC-Paramount Records for wider distribution. I don't know if he had any involvement with "Navy Blue", but 20th Century Fox was a fledgling label in the 60's that needed a big hit badly, and they got it with this song. The two biggest selling records 20th Century Fox had was this one and Harry Simone's "Little Drummer Boy" before Russ Regan took over in 1972, and changed the label's fortunes a bit by having a few more big hits.

About 1/3rd or even 1/2 of '50's on 5 is pop made in or popular from 1960-1963, as the pre-Beatle '60's are often grouped with the "first" or "original" generation of Rock & Roll.

@MusicMikeFlashbackFavorites
@MusicMikeFlashbackFavorites 8 лет назад
Yes it was. I don't normally do that, but the record company requested that I do.....so the song could not be copied and bootlegged. A lot of money and time went into the creation of this DES stereo track. I can appreciate them wanting to protect it. I am also happy that they chose for me to promote it.

+MusicMike's "Flashback Favorites" Great explanation of where there are pirates ready to make 💰off someone else's copyright material.
@TerryJNelson
@TerryJNelson 8 лет назад
As soon as I heard the beginning voice-over-song, I stopped listening. Not surprisingly, the entire song is already available elsewhere on the Internet so the piracy argument is moot. So, at best, this edited promotion did not stop piracy. At worst it remains a constant irritant to the listening experience. To each his own. YMMV.

Sorry, At the request of the record company, I was asked to speak over the intro. Why? so that it would discourage copying the song from RU-vid rather than purchasing it. Since I was asked....I agreed.
@issadad
@issadad 6 лет назад
Understood. Keep up the good work then. I'd like to upload a few playlists with songs (some rare) segued into one continuous 80 min video (although I don't have an idea yet about what to do visually.) Is there any sort of RU-vid guide or tips about how to do this safely or acquire permission that you might recommend? Like you, I'd guess, my only interest is sharing, and if anything, I'd hope my lists would help the artists. I don't know the ropes legally, any advice would be most welcome. My segues are so tight that I often overlap a little, the goal being for people to listen to the whole mix (20-30 songs), but if even one of 25 songs violates anybody's rights, I assume the whole mix would be pulled down. I'd like to avoid that.

I don't know of a specific guide.....anybody else out there know of one?
