Andrews and Christopher Plummer reveal what it was like to work together and why they never dated. Watch the full episode here: abc.go.com/shows/2020/listing/...
HiddenShadowGirl I'm almost 50, but this has been one of my favorite movies since I saw it for the first time probably back in 1972 or so. I think I was about 7. We didn't have VCR's or DVD's so we saw it at the movie theater and it was a huge deal. Can you imagine, a movie made 7 years or so prior still being shown in the movie theater? Everything goes to DVD in months now. The Lonely Goatherd song is my favorite.
The scene where Maria is on the stairs and Christopher is down below. He says, "I want you to stay, I ask you to stay". That scene pulls at your heart strings. The two were meant to be together on screen!! Thank you!!!
what a shame Chris Plummer couldn't have been stood at the top of the steps in the Cathedral when Julie retraced her steps it was an opportunity missed forever.
Julie Andrews is a legend and a national treasure of Great Britain. You can see she’s had cosmetic surgery but then, if I had the money, I’d have cosmetic surgery. This would start with a breast enlargement, rhinoplasty and tummy tuck.
@@misplacedkiwi9498 Ok, but you see what extensive facial surgery can do. And so many botched up jobs. A disgrace... & for many famous actresses, a tragedy. You can't go back.
As a child he was a piano player and it was assumed by his parents growing up that he would be a classical pianist, although he became an actor instead.
A lot of people gave Julie Answers flack back in the day for her riske projects, and her self admitted tendency to talk like a sailor (which let's be real any actress trying to break free of a "pure: image has done this), but you know what? She is such a kind sweet, thoughtful lady and would be a treasure to know. I am grateful we get to see her candidly at least here. I could listen to her and Christopher talk for days about these sweet memories of theirs about this movie and experience.
marlenejojo1 Do you mean “risqué”? I agree w you. But her pure image is the truest one, I believe. Swearing like a sailor has no effect on purity. At least not in JA’s case.
And they still have it... But then I think of her chemistry with Robert Goulet, James Garner and even her husband Blake Edwards, and so I think Plummer was right, when he said the chemistry was her, and he was just trying to keep it up.
They were both definitely crushing on each other during filming. You see it on screen and in the behind the scenes photos. Case in point, the photos of them on the rocks. People who are not attracted to each other don’t sit as close as they did.
@@ElleCee62978 There is an interview from 2015 (¿?), where the reporter says that they went to eat, they sat together and while they talked they bowed their heads so close that they looked like a married couple, even though there was also Elaine, Plummer's wife.
@@joyk2327 I think, if they had gotten together, they would have self-destructed due to Chris’s drinking. It would have been Liz Taylor and Richard Burton all Over again.
@@ElleCee62978 Totally agree. Even Julie said they wouldn't have worked. And I think the same, (and he would have been a very bad stepfather to Emma). That's why Julie was his eternal crush. Better a good friend, than a bad love ...
My grandma gave me this movie as a present for my 4th birthday. Immediately became obsessed and by the time I was 5 I knew every lyric of every song and my life's goal is to go on the same hill
This was beautiful. I'm listening to her memoir, and Julie was just so depressed during the filming of this. Although Diane makes it sound like she was alone with her baby, but she did have a full-time nanny named Kate. But other than that... yeah. It's crazy that she was so sad making something that has brought everyone such joy! I'm glad she's happier now. :)
What happens is that she was trained and educated under the slogan of "the show must go on". Problems or conflicts stay at home. Also, of her own character. Her two husbands as well as her friends and coworkers have testified to her cheerful, optimistic and bright personality... And certainly she had a babysitter, but there are countless photos where you can see Julie spending time with her baby. Of course, during the filmings, she needed someone to take care of the baby, even so between takes, the girl was with Julie. Many people involved in the film have said that Julie spent every spare moment with her baby. However, this is still "an employee" who you pay to take care of your daughter. It's not like she was a friend, or family member to lean on emotionally. When she recorded Mary Poppins, the babysitter was still there, but she had Tony there too. But this later changed when Tony decided that he didn't want to be the husband/manager of a movie star and wanted to make his own name for him. That's where the distancing began. And that was the reason for her sadness, the reason she felt alone. And this was what she and Blake tried to avoid later. Staying together even if they were working. Go to work, take their children with them (even if they had a babysitter, this allowed them to spend time with them), and then return home.
*Rest In Peace* to Julie’s costar in “The Sound of Music” Christopher Plummer who died just a few days ago (02-05-21) at age 91. He was a talented actor & a very good looking man. 👍🏻
It feels so emotional watching this, Julie has the amazing ability to make you feel everything she feels, she is a truly wonderful actress and it seems a lovely lady. Really stunning
I first saw the film when I was 15... & I saw it 7 times that year! Am 70 now & still love it & consider Julie Andrews the best female singer both sides of the Atlantic! No one can compare w her. What a tragedy for her (& us) to have lost her voice so prematurely. I truly feel for her. But we had her for her best years. An incredible gift!
It was deeply saddening when J.A. retired from singing, but in PRINCESS DIARIES 2, Julie was persuaded to sing a number that had been written to take into account the limitations of her vocal range; the song was "Your Crowning Glory", and she sounded great!
A beautiful touch to have her again walk the aisle at the Cathedral in Mondsee. I visited that church in a tour and was deeply touched. The Sound of Music is a worldwide cultural phenomenon…they have tours in Salzburg that go to the film’s locations (including the gazebo for sure)!and people were lined up to board the buses. My family had a lot of involvement with this film…my Dad, Bill Lee, did all of Plummer’s singing, every note was replaced by him once the film was completed. And my mom, Ada Beth, portrayed Sister Catherine (the one with the little round glasses) in the number How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria. Having had a singing career of my own for 55 years, I sang in the chorus.
l must of watched this movie at least 100 times in my life. Especially when l had a DVR player and taped it. l would watch it again and again and again. l never tire of this movie.
When she said I was literally in every shot all I could think of was that I agreed! Lol! I played Maria 2 years ago and the costume changes were absolutely insane.
I’m very proud to report here that my Dad, Bill Lee provided all the singing for Christopher Plummer. They let Plummer do all his own during the filming and then hired Dad to go in and what they call “loop it” after. He had to match Plummer’s mouth and he said that was the most difficult
Can you imagine if Barbara Streisand had played the lead?? 1. BARF! 2. No matter how much Barbara tried to play someone who was so nice, sweet, and unselfish, she could never pull it off. 3. BARF-O-RAMA 4. Barbara would demand that the story be about HER and not the Von Trapp family or the captain. 5. Barbara doesn't have the singing skills to sing a song like The Lonely Goatherd. 6. 24/7 BARF!!
making me tear up. i’ve wanted to meet julie andrews since i was little because she reminds me so strongly of my late grandmother. my grandparents even saw the sound of music premiere on their honeymoon
To Christopher Plummer as captain von Trapp and to the other actors and actresses who passed away my thoughts are with your family you may be gone but not forgotten still going strong great job people you should be proud much love and respect and appreciation job well done you should be proud really appreciate the memories and the music thanks !!! Joe
I watched it age 4 at the drive in. It was the first movie I ever watched and I remember the first few hours well. I also watched it in my mother's womb-well heard it-when she was 8 months pregnant with me. She adored it and I wonder if these 2 experiences are why it's my favourite movie ever. I'm sure at 8 months gestation I would have heard all the songs and felt my mum's emotions towards it. It's her favourite movie of all time too💖 P. S I wish Chris and Julie had had that affair. You can tell how much they love each other in real life. 💞
This is truthly a classic movie The Sound of Music been watching this move ever since I was a kid no I have introduced it to my children who are all adults with their children so it's been many many many years ago when my mother Mona Ali took me to see that movie
We were watching this movie in my Reading movies english class about a week ago and I didn’t expect myself to love it as much as i did 😭 It really is a beautiful movie, I am glad I got to watch it for the first time
Definitely the best film ever made. I can never imagine being able to watch any other film 50+ times. If sad I simply remember my favourite film… and watch it. It’s the best tonic.
During the first take of the wedding scene, the actor who was supposed to play the priest didn't show up. He was nowhere to be found. That's a real bishop in the movie.
I think am in love again as I've swen my favieite movie THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Have seen it several times. I was in grade school then. Gr. 3 to be exact. Up to my age now 67 still love to rewind it again and again. For me its the movie of all time, you'll not get annoyed as you watch.
I love ,the above video .the sound of music is unique or one of the best we ever had . I never get tired of that ..that reminds me ,the schools, I used to go .that the students had to be polite and having respect
I’m 14 and this movie has been my favourite since I was young gal!! Watched again with my mum yesterday haven’t finished yet, Haven’t watched it in ages though AHH
Thanks to this movie I learned how to sing , play piano and love music even more.. I also remember how I find Captain aka Baron Von Trapp soo handsome cause of his looks, his eyes and smart posture.. The moment he sang Edelweiss , he simply captured my heart. Also Liesl von Trapp, there's a scene in the movie that focused her face and accentuate her blue eyes.. Soooo pretty 😍
