the steelers have won the offseason for me, i'm from cleveland btw to see it happening is devastating when i hoped Cleveland might go on a run. they make the playoffs, they flip their entire QB room from Kenny pick6ett and mason Rudolph the backup starter QB. To a arguable hall of famer and a promising young prospect both of whom upgrade over their QB room last year, and to do at such a cheap bargain. it's the kind of thing that gives you chills. The amount of flexibility it gives them. They don't have to resign fields. i believe they have his option, they could pick up the option or franchise him, they could do both over the next two years or neither at all. they can start russ and trade him midseason easily to a QB needy team if need be and pivot to fields at any time. the amount of patience they had to get here at this point is startling. meanwhile the browns are paying Deshaun Watson a full contract, trading for a new slot with a day 2 pick every year. the difference in organizational stability stands out starkly with regard to asset management.

Rare bad take from Diana there I think. Keeping Fields into the season was not worth stoking civil war between the fans, and I wouldn't want him in the locker room knowing how popular he is with team mates. Bring Caleb in as the man, without someone breathing down his neck. Also re Josh Dobbs and Joe Flacco, I think I'd have more faith in both of those guys joining my team in week 5 or 6 and picking up the offense enough to be an effective replacement. I don't think Fields is the best choice for that. Pittsburgh is a good home for him, sit and learn for a season or two, get the offense down on a stable team with Arthur Smith. I think it turned out pretty well for him.

Yeah, it wouldn't be worth a slight upgrade in draft capital to hold onto Fields and have reporters asking DJ Moore who should be the starter week 1.

Good point about Dobbs and Flacco. Dobbs has proven he can fly in and run an offense in a week. He’s done it 3 times. Also, Justin adds a potential QB controversy anywhere he goes. As a GM you might not want to deal with that. Steelers probably makes the most sense.

Diana overlooks a critical detail in her plan to keep Fields as the backup - Fields' 5th year option must be decided in May before training camp begins. To get the value Diana preaches in a trade, the Bears would have to pony up for Fields' 5th year option at $25M. I don't think any team would trade for Fields at that price even in desperation. If no team comes knocking on the door, then the Bears are stuck with Fields and a more difficult task of getting rid of him as that 5th year would become an albatross as nobody would want a reject QB at $25 on a one year deal. If Fields were to stay on the roster with Caleb Williams, you keep Fields the starter and let him play himself out of the role....which wouldn't take too long. That way, Williams can learn while on the bench pressure free, and Fields can prove once and for all why he shouldn't be the starter. If by chance Fields turns the corner and shows what he should've shown all along, then it's a win-win for the Bears as Williams can continue on the bench a la Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love, etc.. If Fields continues to prove he's not the guy, then he's given the hook and Williams can assume the role without the pressure of Fields waiting in the wings because Fields will have already deflated the fan base removing any incentive for chants to bring him back even if Williams flops. Attention at that point would likely turn to Tyson Bagent because he has at least demonstrated he's capable.

I thought I would be relieved that they finally moved him away from this incessant toxicity. Unfortunately I’m just seeing people strutting around on various platforms like they won something and screaming even louder. I acknowledge there is a segment of the fanbase that stupidly ignored all Poles’ actions the last two years and thought he would keep Fields. They were always wrong. But the discourse around fields was just riddled with bad actors on all sides. You got Caleb bros that refuse to allow any one to be critical or skeptical of him and the same for fields. A segment of those Caleb bros were people that always hated Fields even when he was the most exciting player on the team for a while. All this and there is still a segment of the fanbase that are still lying to themselves about Bagent (gross). You just couldn’t reasonably talk about the QB spot without it becoming a screaming match. At least the learn how to win crowd has stfu. Edit: oh worst of all there are still people who are Getsy apologists that blame fields for stealing Getsy’s time as their OC away from them. I honestly don’t know which is worst people that fell for the bagent mania or the Getsy apologists.

i'm in the Williams goat camp but like i wanna debate it, i'm open to other pov's its just i feel like the worst eval measure is a bunch of people judging a dude's personality, who none of them know personally, when he doesn't even have dad weight yet like he's a finished product by any measure and what i find usually with a lot of Caleb doubters is, a lot of them go there with the dude because his football resume is impeccable when you really consider every factor. he's the type of talented where the only way he fails is if he isn't willing to do what it takes to succeed, and every account of him that isn't him.

@@tvtda1 I mean I got legitimate concerns about the system he’s coming out of. Like did he resort to hero ball because the talent/system around wasn’t good enough type questions. @@Shugoshin9720 we know that defense was trash. Lincoln riley defenses are trash and its a combination of him being given the green light by Riley's scheme in itself and Caleb both wanting big plays and needing big plays. the criticism of his decision making is out of context, not only has he played 1 more entire year as a starter than drake Maye. he has less turnovers passing and ur overly critical of the fumbles given what you get in return from a big play perspective. people play him like he's some reckless gunslinger and they don't care how many reps he's had compared to his turnover rate and then negatives compared to the alternative. people want him with his ability and mentality to play like a game manager, you can't really have both. it's a lot of want cake eat it too. i can assure you saying that evaluators are just guessing is overly simplifying this process. for me i know being familiar with the factors at play. i consider him the best QB prospect alive and ever. in saying that i'm aware its slightly hyperbole, but i only mention it to make the point that i'm likely not the only person even amongst teams that feels that way. a lot of people don't know what's coming, you've been warned by people like me. we don't love him randomly. He is truly sensational by historical standards. the bears are about to get a dude, they know it and that's why they moved off fields.

12:31 i get what she is trying to say but let me ask you this is this madden do you think that a team like the bears who have been in football purgatory for years now is a prime destination for FA not really they sold ppl on caleb Williams and if the handled the fields situation wrong they may be in a situation next year or a few years from now like the PATS where you have to overpay to get players saying you will do right by him and get him iut of the building then starting the season with him and caleb will have players side eyeing you and when a player does want to be traded you won’t be on the list

fans are split on him, ur side of the debate is annoying me because you say this on the heels of Lamar Jackson winning his 2nd MVP despite not being a pro style QB. we can't never even have a fair debate because ur idea of what a QB is supposed to be is just so unimaginative and limiting. you get annoyed because his reads aren't consistent rather than seeing the positive impact of how his physical ability makes him a nightmare to defend. so we keep going in circles, because you keep looking at him for what you want him to be rather than seeing him for what he is.
