Thank you for explaining leading tones, so many music theory teachers assume people know terms and things that they don't know which confuses them. It would be great if you could also do more "what does this sound like" while explaining so there is more context like you do with the chords. That really helps people like me who know the sounds of things but can't always hear them in our head because we haven't memorized them yet.

👏 👏 Very well explained, i love the logicical, mathematical component of music structure which I used to work out the diatonic's of all the major keys and after this excellent explanation I now understand how to work out all the diaotonic's for the three types of minor keys, my piano teacher just keeps going step by step starting with the (i-iv-v-i) minor progressions without explaining how I go to that point, the leading tone from the dominant to the tonic now makes much more sense, tutors must not underestimate a students ability to grasp the more in-depth concepts of musical structure, this tutorial gets a 5 🌟 plus from me, thank you.

Thank you for this great exposition of a subject that I've never really understood. I've been playing guitar off and on since 1965, but didn't get serious about music theory until covid came along and I had some time to kill. I've learned a lot from various sources, but only now understand why there are multiple minor scales for a key and why I've been confused about what the diatonic chords can be. That said, I would have had trouble following you absent a previous clear understanding of scale degrees and how to construct chords, but I'm sure that your earlier videos cover all of that.

Once again a great Lesson Gracie. While I was listening to the main body of your video I had 2 burning questions. Firstly can you mix these in a song. Excellent lesson, both in content and presentation. Keep up the good work. 👍 Just one tiny suggestion: if you place the microphone closer to your mouth, the recording will have less reverb from the room and thus your voice will be clearer to us listeners. 🎤 If you're afraid of knocking the microphone while moving around, a lapel mic might work better. BTW like you, I find that the richness provided by diatonic chords in the natural, harmonic, and melodic minor scales is exquisite, especially given its simplicity. 🎶

Gracie, in your recent video, you discussed the use of the 13 diatonic chords that can be derived from the three minor keys. It got me thinking, when these chords are used in a composition, how do you determine the key in which the melody should be played? Can you provide some guidance or general rules about this?

Thank you a lot. Finally get a better understanding of why there are different minir scales and how they are kinda not reserved from another. In my head I am just waiting for the 7th chords and I think it really is that 4rth triad on top. But it‘s crazy, I started playing guitar when I was 9, now I‘m 23. this year I started going more into theory, got into the diatonic chords of c major and a minor. And now I am realizing Dominant chords are a thing too. I thought I had it with minor7, maj7, 7 and diminished7 chords but there it comes, a dominant chord. Almost a shame because I want to be a jazz musician. Gods of Jazz, please tell me when I am ready to clIm higher dimensions of music. However, you wanted a comment, here is mine.
