In light of Dick Clark's recent passing, April 17th, 2012, here's a tribute and a big "thank you" to a man who helped a Northwest dance band get their big break in showbiz. After the dust had settled, this rock band had garnered 24 hit singles, and logged-in over 750 television performances in the decade of the 1960's, thanks to Clark's support in their early days! Here on this video, Dick Clark re-unites the original core members of this legendary 60's rock band, Paul Revere & the Raiders, on national TV with a special called: "THE GOOD OLD DAYS." Telecast in the spring of 1979, the original band including Paul Revere, Drake Levin, Mike "Smitty" Smith, Mark Lindsay, and Phil "Fang' Volk, had not played together for 12 years. Their live performance was the grand climax of this 2-hour TV special on NBC. This reunion also brought together many well-known celebrities like Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello, Fabian, Dee Dee Sharp, Joey Bishop, Patti Page, Tina Mason and Ed McMahon, to mention a few. Dick Clark's daytime TV series, "WHERE THE ACTION IS" featuring the Raiders, Tina Mason and Steve Alaimo, stayed on the air for over 2 years with 520 episodes. Dick Clark's legacy of starting the careers of many famous musicians will be long remembered & appreciated.

These guys were so good. One of the few bands of the era who, for the most part, played their own stuff in the studio. Mark Lindsay is an under-rated singer as well.

Agreed. It's just too bad they're TV performances were always done to backing tracks. Mark's vocals were sometimes live but the rest was canned.

Mine too! They played Grad Night at Disney World when I worked there in1973. They came in for hot dogs brownies and drink so I immediately gave myself the job of bussing tables. He was very friendly and I'm he could see I was starstruck. The only I could say to him was you have mustard on your face which he asked me to wipe it off. Twice! The rest of the day I was either walking around with a goofy grin or yelling at myself because I couldn't come up with something better than mustard on his face. I think I reverted back to age 12m LOL

The fact that these guys aren't in the RRHOF exposes it for what it is . They had more TV appearances in the US than any other band in the 60's. They were recording their own music up until Drake Levin left and after that they were just so busy the hits had to be expedited - and there were many !!!###

I ran across this again. Of the people around that table, only Mark Lindsay and Phil Volk are still living . :( . Young people don't realize the cutting edge this sound was in 1965; there was nothing like it, and their songs climbed the charts one-by-one. I can't understand today why nothing is said about these guys. I'm certain they will never even be in the running for the Hall of Fame (which is a joke considering how artists are nominated and win). Yes, they were all excellent musicians, but the prodigy was Drake Levine who was only 16-years old at the time. His guitar work had no equal; just listen to the double-tracked guitar solo he played on Just Like Me. No one did double-tracked guitar lead in those days, and the electronics didn't exist to create the sound in one recording. He also was a choreographer and responsible for the footwork he and Phil did in unison. As teens, we guys hated Mark Lindsay since he was all the girls could talk about. And, we sure couldn't compete with Mark. :)

It was a dark day when this Rock'n' Roll icon passed form this earth to the Home in Heaven. We will miss his great music and his fun personality, but Heaven will be richer for it. He is there now entertaining those whom have gone before us, and he will be there to entertain us once again someday. I was there from the beginning, have all of the original band's albums and have loved them from day one. Their music, their fun on stage; and, if you have ever been one of the lucky ones who had one of his three-cornered hats sent flying out to you from stage AND still have that hat, you have truly been blessed for it! Their music was always so fun to dance to also. RIP Paul and hope to see you on the other side someday. God bless you for the legacy you have left us.

Gosh darn it! I sure do love Mark Lindsay's pageboy hairstyle from 1977 to 1979. Way back in the 1960's, he grew hair long and tied it up into a ponytail which became his fashion statement. In 1977 during "The American Bandstand's Silver Jubilee TV Special" on ABC-TV, Mark had that awesome pageboy hairstyle and played guitar with the American Bandstand's All-Star Band. It's really & truly amazing, don't you agree? Bye now. It's really & truly nice knowing you.

Yes, I too hurried home after school to see "Action." Some of my favorite memories. For years I imagined that I married Phil , and Tina married Steve Alaimo. I was ecstatic when I took my children to Disneyland in the early '70s and realized I was watching Tina and Phil perform in "Friendship Train." I was so nervous when I shouted out "Phil" as they were performing. Phil turned to my direction, and I got some fabulous pictures of him waving to me. Thanks for the memories; the joy and happiness.. Many years later, I got to see Paul Revere with Raiders ( 7.0) or so at a local festival. He was cool and I am sad he has passed Fang and family...keep on rockin'.. Judy )

I enjoyed chatting with Mike for a couple of hours one evening when he owned the Sporthaven nightclub in Harbor which was just across the Chetco river from Brookings, Oregon in 1979...Super nice guy. He told me a lot of stories with Paul Revere and the Raiders. I was playing music up the street but the rock band from my town was playing at the Sporthaven so they introduced me to Mike.

Paul Revere And the Raiders became famous in 1965 as regulars on the TV series "Where The Action Is". That show featured lip-sync performances by rock singers and groups, taped on location (mostly, but not always, in the Los Angeles area). That summer, when "Action " premiered, my family had a backyard swimming pool and my Mom (a stay-at-home mom, as most married moms were then) wanted my kid brother (age 6) and I (age 9-1/2) to go into the pool at 2 P.M.---the very hour "Action" went on the air. I fought with my Mom to watch "Action", but after a few minutes of the show, she forced us into the pool. But one rainy day, we couldn't go swimming in our pool, so I got to watch an episode in it's entirety. My mom fell in love with the costumes worn by Paul Revere And The Raiders. But she liked their music a little less. After that, we didn't go into the backyard pool until 2:30 P.M. (when "Action" ended) for the rest of the summer.

We have a vacation place at the coast, and I swear you can still feel the spirit of PR&TR at the beach communities where they played, like Seaside, OR, not to mention Portland and Seattle. What an AWESOME group----to kick ass like that after 12 years shows what kind of talent they had!! Most underrated R&R group of all time---the fact that they still aren't in the R&R HOF shows what a worthless joke that organization is!!

All of the group members sang various songs beginning with their first album "Here They Come" which was released in 1965.. The voices of Phil Volk and Drake Levin are unmistakable whether they were lead or providing backup harmony. Even the drummer Mike Smith sang lead on several of their album cuts. Check out their second album "Just Like Us" and you will hear Phil Volk do one of the best versions ever of "I'm Crying".

Paul Revere was very wealthy even before he started the band. Great guy. I think that's one thing that made his band successful. He didn't need the money, he was just having fun.

they did lip synch on many shows, but trust me, Mark can sing all the songs. i have seen him in concert many times and he is great for his age, as he just turned 72 March 9.

I got in trouble when I was 3 years old because of Dick Clark. Mom used to watch American Bandstand. One morning in church, during the singing, I started to do the twist. Mom said "Well...I guess I'm not watching Dick Clark any more." Hahaha. I love that story.
