Please join me in this video, Dick Emery Comedian - Ooh You Are AWFUL... but I LIKE YOU!
Dick Emery's comedy characters were some of the most memorable on British television for many years, including the First World War veteran, Lampwick; the old codger who would connive to get his own way and cause trouble between his daughter and son-in-law - Hettie; and the frustrated spinster - the toothy Vicar. The 'bovver boy' College who fell on hard times! Most famously Mandy; the brassy blonde who always misunderstood the street interviewer and interpreted his question to have a suggestive meaning, leading her to slap him on the shoulder as she announced, Ooh you are awful... but I like you!
In this video, we visit the grave of Dick Emery, taking flowers and remembering his life 🌹

Dick Emery was tremendous, I don't know why he doesn't get the same repeats of his shows as the Two Ronnies or Morecambe & Wise or treated with the same adulation as them & Tommy Cooper etc. Top of his game, those were the days of quality TV entertainment.

Agree. And yet he was at the top of his game Far longer than many. A successful comedy show for two decades. Not many of the others could say the same. Even M&W didn’t really hit the straps till the late 60’s and were over by the early 80’s.

I loved Dick Emery! Still do! My mum was his waitress while he was staying in Bristol and while they would chat he asked if she had any children, saying 2 (she always inc my cousin) he told her he would put 3 tickets for the show that evening at the stage door of the Hippodrome for us. All excited we went to the stage door, only to be turned away saying that no one knew anything about it. My mum was livid and not so politely said how Dick was going to be wearing his breakfast in the morning. We was just walking across Bristol City centre and Dick Emery himself came running after mum, shouting all the apologies, the person he had told & left the tickets with had gone home early so no one else knew. We got to see the show and Dick ate his eggs the next morning instead of wearing them.

About 1968/9 I was on the beach in Skegness with my family .. I was 8/9 years old . My dad pointed to a man and woman both wearing sun glasses walking past us with a dog . My dad said that it was Dick Emery .... I could not tell .. my dad got me a pen and paper and told me to go get his autograph .... so I did only when I got to him and asked and saw the smile did I really know it was him. He went into a quiet out of the way cafe . we followed ... he asked me who my fav character was .... I told him Lampwick & would he do him for me ... he just smiled and talked with the lady he was with . As we got up to leave he turned to look at me and I sad bye .. he smiled again .. but as I was going through the door .... Lampwick said ga ga ga goodbye . I smiled the rest of the holiday . He was in a show at the pier ... we went to see it .... I remember watching him and thinking ..... thats my friend . Regards .

That is such a lovely story!!!! So kind and generous of him too - though you were brave! I would have been too shy to ask him 🤣 that’s so heart warming - you’d probably be telling a different story if it were Kenneth Williams 🤣🤣🤭 he was notorious for being rude to people who asked for his autograph! He was one of the funniest and creative of the past comedians, with his variety of zany characters. His expressive face, alone, would make me laugh in the way he could merge himself into those numerous characters. Now and again I will look at episodes of his shows on RU-vid, taking me back to my 30s. Thanks for the tribute to him😊

I loved Mr Emery as a young lad in the 70s.... your old saturday nights sound like my own, food, fun laughter, The generation game, Dick Emery, 2 Ronnies then Parkinson interviewing some genuine hollywood superstar of the "golden era", finishing off with the lights off, sofa dragged in front of the telly to sit and watch "match of the day" or Harry Carpenter commentating on some world title fight, watching with dad & my brother.... someone please build a working time machine !!! What a SUPERB channel you've got... RIGHT up my street, and VERY worthy of a new subscription. All the best.

When i need a lift it is Dick Emery i go to on YT. He was a boy and a half. His shows were very very popular and he topped the TV ratings for a very long time. Once again my nan and gramp were big fans. Some of his characters were so ahead of their time. We used to watch the early shows in B and W. So i had not realised how colourful and sophisticated many of his costumes were. Clarence was iconic. Thanks again for another wonderful video.

having "discovered" all these You Tube channels doing visits to graves this specific episode is really resonating as I had no idea he died that long ago. I was at university in 1983 and so not watching TV any longer, but the 70's, my goodness, I was glued to the set like most families of that time and all those comics of that era. The fact Dick Emery was gone by 83 is shocking as I missed it at the time, and I suppose didn't really notice in 80s. By the 90's I must admit I was very aware that TV was nothing like it had been and i was no longer attached to it. These U Tubes of people from that era have made me feel the passage of time, but 1983, my goodness.
