Thank you for honoring him. I watch Oliver every year at Christmas. Last year I showed it to my niece and nephew who loved it and we had a great conversation about workhouse kids and how kids used to work in factories instead of going to school. I think all of us 70’s kids have a soft spot for Jack and his performance in HR Puffenstuff. This was a lovely tribute. Thanks. 🙏🏽
You’re very welcome! My pleasure! Yes!!! Same here - a real go to Christmas movie in our house! It’s a great example of how things have changed - I absolutely love history - including film history! Jack was such a talent! ❤️❤️❤️ thank you for watching x
Thank you for highlighting jack ,he will always be the one and only artful dodger ,he was a big star ,i like him turned out be an alcoholic (not had a drink for over 20years) I saw videoes of him talking about alcoholism ,and i thought he was a very nice young man ,i cant complement him enough , he was such a nice person Im so glad you highlighted him , He deserved being highlighted for being such a nice person even without all his fame x,
My pleasure! Thank you so much for your lovely comment - especially coming from a place of completely understanding the issues that Jack dealt with - it's a true mountain to climb - I know from friends that have had the same problem with alcohol how difficult it is. So a massive thank you to you! xxx
Yes I absolutely agree he was one off the main characters in That great Legendary movie excellent high value acting from jack what a shame he died in critical way 😢I love ❤️ Oliver Twist over jacks Artful dodger character 🌹
Jack made a big impact on us kids in the late 1960s and 1970s, he seemed to be everywhere on the TV and films. So much talent and full of energy, he was flipping cool.
I remember seeing him on HR Pufnstuf and l so much wanted to be him.. I saw the HR Pufnstuf the Movie at the Dawamish Drive Inn here in Seattle.. Rest In Peace, Jack You inspired me..
This was a great tribute to Jack, well done! 🙂 He was so incredibly talented, and such a sweet man. He should have won the Academy Award for best supporting actor in Oliver, but lost to Jack Albertson- what a shame. This dates me, haha, but I remember like it was yesterday- I had a huge crush on him when I was little, and loved HR Pufnstuff 💕 RIP Jack Wild
Thank you so much and thank you for watching! Yes I agree I was surprised he didn’t win best supporting actor! He very much deserved to - he was a great talent from such a young age xxxx
Thanks sincerely for your wonderful tribute to Jack Wild. I had no idea he had a childhood connection with Phil Collins. To me, he will always be "The Artful Dodger". A man of incredible talents, very sad he died so young. I was 12 yrs. of age when "Oliver!" was released here in Australia and was transfixed by both the story and songs and loved reading Charles Dickens as a child. Still watch my bluray copy of the film every once in a while, just magnificent! RIP dear Jack.
My pleasure! You’re very welcome and thank you for watching! Jack was amazingly talented I agree! And I’m the same - love Charles Dickens novels - you can really lose yourself in them xxxx
Thank you so much for watching! Yes I always do a mini bio - I love remembering the lives of my favourite celebrities! ❤️ Jack was wonderful and I agree - such a sad end xx
I was in a production of "Oliver!" in which Oliver & Dodger were both played by girls. The girl playing Dodger was v.good while the one who played Oliver was just Ok ; I always wondered why she got the part( I think her mom had some pull w/ the theater.) especially when there was a talented young boy that I'd chat w/backstage who would have been much better Imo. In fact,in one scene after Oliver goes to live w/his uncle,she/he was wearing a suit that had white trousers & u could definitely tell she was an "Olivia" instead! Oh yeah, a then 10(?) yr old Zoe Kravitz was in the cast as one of the Workhouse kids. Her dad ,Lenny Kravitz ,showed up to watch a few performances & gave her a gift basket that was bigger than she was.😅 I think he was v. proud of his daughter!🙂 P.S. I know this is a bit "off-subject" but I thought u might find it interesting..
I love this!!!!! Thank you for sharing you memories ❤️ yes - it’s not always talent that gets you far - sometimes it’s who you know for sure! The Lenny bit!!!! OMG! The gift basket 🤭 I only know his music - I didn’t even know he had a daughter! Thank you for this x
My father died of oral cancer it's horrible for them to lose thier voice, a lovely tribute to a great actor, but sad to see nobody has tended to his grave for a long time not a flower in sight, nice of you to lay some for him x 😔
I’m so sorry to hear about your father ❤️ Jack was a great actor I agree! I think it’s possible flowers were laid but the grounds are very well cared for and I would imagine they would be cleared as soon as the lose their bloom x it’s always such a pleasure to take flowers when I visit 🥰💐 thank you so much for your comment and for watching the video ❤️
Thank you for remembering Jack Wilde I would watch him as a child on "HR Pufnstuf" he was so cute& very talented as a grown up love him in "Oliver" Such an Amazing cast never get tired of watching it I would often talk about jack to my nieces & nefews & daughters& sons how he would make me smile such wonderful childhood memories so I pass along my vhs tapes & say enjoy you can pass along to your children so once again Thank you may jack RIP Truly missed But Never Forgotten
Oh the same here! Oliver and Pufnstuf were truly magical! Once watched never truly forgotten! And great for children of all generations ❤️🥰 thank you so much for watching xxxx
As a latchkey kid of the early 70s, I was raised by TV. I thank God for the talented and moral programs. H.R. Pufnstuf was my "friend when things got rough".
I adored Jack WIld, one of my serious first crushes as a young girl. Was a fan club member of his during his HR PufnStuf years. Of course, bought all the teen magazines featuring him using my babysitting money. Loved him in movies, on Tv, and his singing, I still own his first album. I did like him in The Pied Piper movie that also had Donovan, (another major crush back then) Thank you for this
Oh yes!!! I did too with the magazines 🤭 and another big YES!!! Donovan! Although to be fair in that film I only have eyes for Diana Dors 🤭 I love her to the moon and back several times over! Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching ❤️🌹
And I thought I was the only one who had a crush on this amazing young man! What I would put my family through on Saturday morning just to see Jack on HR Puff-n-Stuff I remember to this day! Thank you for sharing with us Jack's brilliant, but sad life. Learning this has left me with a tear in my eye, but a smile on my face.
Have you seen "Melody"? It's a lovely little British film about a young boy (Mark Lester) who falls in love with a girl at school. Jack is in the film too. It is set in London, so has that real feel of what it was like going to school in the 60's. It is adorable.
Thank you for telling us the story about Jack, I can't believe he was born the same year as me but sadly he has gone, his films will go on forever, Thank you for giving Jack some lovely roses 🌹🌹👍👍
Consider yourself at home!! OLIVER! one of the last great British musicals from 1968 and a 6 Oscar winner! they jusy do not make them like this anymore what a movie what a cast! Jack Wild was perfect for the Artful Dodger role so sad what happened to him at such a young age. But Jack lives on forever on film and tv and his role in OLIVER! will never be forgotten. Thanks for a lovely tribute to him and his work and to see his final resting place was so nice. RIP Jack and Thankyou. Mark - Wallasey Wirral.17/11/22
Thank you so much Mark and thank you for watching ❤️ I agree with everything in your comment!!! Jack was THE perfect Artful Dodger and once you see Oliver - it’s never forgotten! Such a great film! 🌹❤️
That was such a respectful and beautiful tribute to Jack wild.. and what a beautiful little Cemetery that was.. like so many other young girls I had such a huge crush on him when I was younger... I'm 64 now but I can just remember how thrilled I was to watch him every Saturday morning on HR puff and stuff.. so handsome and talented..
My pleasure! I loved Jack too ❤️ and I agree he was so cute and handsome! Yes the cemetery is lovely and well cared for 🌹 it was so emotional visiting ❤️ thank you for your lovely comment and for watching ❤️
Thank you for sharing this wonderful tribute to Jack Wild's life and taking us to his final resting place. He was an important part of my childhood in the U.S. I always loved watching him on H.R. Puffinstuff and also his films, over the years. I always wondered what ever became of him and thanks to your video, you filled in all the gaps. He will never be forgotten. Such a talented Actor and so well loved by his fans. Rest in peace Jack and thanks for entertaining us and bringing such happiness to your loyal fans everywhere!
Thank you so much Kenny! It was the same for me - grew up watching Jack in Oliver! And HR Pufnstuf - he was such a great entertainer - and so well loved still today! I think his work has stood the test of time and I’m sure they will always be new Jack fans growing up if they are given the opportunity of seeing Jack’s work! Thank you for watching this video! ❤️
What a very tragic story. Such a lovely tribute to this lovable man. So nice to know he found happiness in his second marriage. He had such a lot of serious health issues but was still smiling when he must have felt very poorly. Love his heart.
I was raised in Hounslow. Jack Wild was a legend. We were proud of where he came from. I remember watching him in Puff and Stuff. Great performer, so full of life.
What a respectful and beautiful tribute to a wonderful actor taken too soon. I have found out today that the musical notes on the grave are Scott Joplins the entertainer as I found out by reading the comments here. Which Jack truly was so it was wonderfully fitting ❤
To me he will always be the best thing ever made in HR Pufnstuf when I was actually a little kid in the early 70s. My friends and I always love to watch it on my house and at times his house. We would actually imitate the Mechanical Boy, they sure don't make any great entertainment on TV anymore for kids.
Thank you so much for sharing I am 61 years old and Jack Wild was my very first heart throb at the age of ten my heart still gave a little flutter at some of the pics you put up RIP Jack love always and hugs Shelley ❤❤❤
"Oliver" had to be one of the most popular and entertaining movies to ever be shown in my city. I believe that it played a least a year at the theatre and there were long lineups around the block. Jack Wild did such a great job playing the part of the artful dodger. It was so sad to read about his health problems before he died. R.I.P. Jack Wild.
I just came across your beautiful tribute to Jack Wild and loved it. When I was growing up and after seeing him in Oliver, I couldn't get enough of him. I bought all the teen rags like Tiger Beat to catch up on him. Thank you for bringing back a piece of my past through Jack's life. Rest in Peace. 🙏✝️
There will never be anyone like Jack Wild to take his place in a unique musical like Oliver. Jack has made his mark in history. He gives generations enjoyment, as with the rest of the cast. God bless you Jack. from Scotland
What a lovely tribute to Jack. I’ve said this a thousand times ever since I first watched a Oliver as a kid but for me there will never be another Artful Dodger, Jack Wild was The Artful Dodger and The Artful Dodger was Jack Wild. They were one and the same.
Thank you so much! I agree - I adore Anthony Newley as the Artful Dodger in the 1948 David Lean version of Oliver by Jack wins hands down every time for me! Xx
Such a sad loss. Jack was also my first crush. Still watch Oliver! whenever its on. Had two of his albums. Pity you didn't mention Filight of the Doves, I loved that film too. Sad that there were no flowers other than your at his grave. I think if he hadn't had his health problems he would have become a great character actor. Thank you for this
I recognized Jack in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves as soon as I saw him. It was a real treat to see him again. RIP Jack Wild you will always be the Artful Dodger.
Thank you. My son was born in 2008, and grew up watching Oliver Twist. The funny thing is while my baby looked and sounded a lot like Oliver, his favorite character was always The artful Dodger. To the point that he would practice pick pocketing everyone in the family. He always gave us our stuff back almost immediately, he just lived the game. To this day I swear Jack Wilds portrayal of the Dodger helped shaped my sons personality. He is light, playful and caring of others, but just loves a good prank, especially lifting his dad's cell phone and waiting until he notices it's missing to give it back.
This was so very well done. Your narration was perfect..well-paced and sincere with no annoying music. It was wonderful and thank you! I remember Jack so well.
Thank you so much for honouring this great guy...I was obsessed with Oliver ...I knew every word and every song by heart .....he, for me, was THE only Artful Dodger....it should have been on his tombstone xx RIP lovely man
The way you told the story is amazing. Love the end with the flowers. He was just fabulous..Its so so sad . We need to remember these people. Keep on remembering them thanks
I remember OLIVER! and loving the film. And yes, I was taken by the chemistry he emoted in his performance. It is heart-breaking that he died so young. I am grateful that he and his wife took up the fight for oral cancer. RIP
Thank you for your lovely comment! I agree - it’s heartbreaking that he died so young x and that through his own pain and trauma he and his lovely wife were thinking of others and helping as much as they could for prevention and awareness ❤️
Thank you so much. His brilliance as the Artful Dodger will never be matched. I faithfully watched him in everything I could and elbowed my younger siblings away from the TV to watch H.R. Puffinstuff on Saturday mornings in the 70's. He was just so cute and charming with a tremendous presence. What a loss.
I know exactly what you mean 🤭 I was the same! Always watched! It’s such a shame that things went the way they did - Jack’s potential was limitless! Thank you so much for watching ❤️🌹
I will always remember him as the immortal Dodger, his acting, body language and facial expressions are all on point and his performance will never be beaten. I have seen a couple of other movies he appeared in but they were very easily forgotten, nothing he did would ever come close to what was the pinnacle of his career. As with a lot of people, he also had his own demons and personal battles and they had taken their toll on his health and seemed to have aged him, even though he never really struck me as the most versatile of performers with a huge range of acting versatility I am glad he was able to turn his life around after beating his demons and he finally began to recieve work but life is never fair, it can give with one hand and just as easily take with the other. I hope and pray he is at peace and with his parents and even some of his co stars from Oliver....THE DEFINITIVE ARTFUL DODGER!!!.. I tip my hat to you Sir...RIP
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre I love that film, despite the dark undertones of the story, it is a TRUE CLASSIC, my all-time favourite musical, it really does make me smile and I can totally forget everything and there aren't many movies like that. A great cast and what a soundtrack. This film can never be bettered and still today I LOVE IT. Thankyou for making & uploading this tribute to a loveable rouge....they don't make rouges like this anymore either. Thankyou xx God Bless x
Thank you so much!!! Jack was such a big part of my growing up - I loved Oliver and his personality in interviews was always so lovely - I just adored him! ❤️❤️❤️ thank you for watching! Xx
Wow I had his picture on my locker after seeing him in OLIVER. What a talent. You did a spectacular job with his story. I did not know a lot of it. What a nice tribute to Jack thank you.
This is a fabulous tribute to jack There could never be another play the Artful Dodger as good as he did God bless you jack 🙏 You have gone down in history in the film Oliver Twist It will be shown for generations to come ❤
Jack was a wonderful actor his portrayal as the Artful Dodger was the best, I have ever seen. Sadly i think he did not get as many roles as he would have liked as an adult actor, and I feel it was our loss that we did not see him very often. Always enjoy watching Oliver and Jacks fantastic performance may he RIP
I completely agree! He was brilliant as the Artful Dodger - I'm really a big fan of the David Lean version and I thought Anthony Newley was a great Artful Dodger but Jack sweeps him away! Jack WAS THE Artful Dodger for me! Thank you so much for your comment and for watching xx
I really admired this incredible man! What a talented and handsome young man he was! I got the pleasure of speaking to him on the phone back in 1970 when I was 14 and the telephone operator was so moved by my wanting to speak to Jack that she stayed with me for an hour calling England and finally reaching him in California taping a Bing Crosby Christmas Special. And finally at last Jack and I talked on the phone for about 10 minutes and since I had previously written him many letters at various addresses, he must have received them and immediately knew who I was! I was in heaven speaking to him as he was really moved by my being such a fan of his! and we ended our conversation with the idea that we meet somehow in person someday, unfortunately that day never came ! I will never forget this experience the rest of my life! I wanted to share this with anyone interested, because it's completely True!!!!!
Thank you so very much!!! What an amazing story and memory to treasure! I absolutely love this! Thank you so much for sharing this lovely recollection! ❤️❤️❤️
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre If I could go back in time and have the ability to see him personally I would, but unfortunately it's only a dream and impossible, So Sad 😢😢😢
Thank you for treating us to a wonderful anecdote of your experience with Jack, and speaking to him must have been the best thing as a youngster. Fabulous. Lucky man.
My mom loved Oliver as a child, I loved watching it as an child with her, when I had my daughter I started watching it with her to this day we still watch it every Christmas.
Thank you for a lovely video on jack wild I think he was the best ever Artful Dodger ever One of my favourite films such a shame of a talented actor what a respectable video Lovely presented
OLIVER is one of the greatest stage to screen musical adaptations ever, if not the best. Jack should have won an Oscar for that role, he was brilliant. Rest in Peace kind sir, thank you for the smiles.
I agree ❤️ I absolutely love David Leans 1948 version of Oliver! But Jack’s portrayal of the Artful Dodger is second to none! The cast and production of 1968’s Oliver was perfect! ❤️❤️🥰
My childhood crush you will always be. Thank you for sharing this journey as I had no idea what had become of the most handsome, sweet boy of my youth.
You're very welcome! 😊 Jack Wild was truly an amazing talent, and it's wonderful to see how much love and admiration he still gets. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your kind words! xxxx
Such a wonderful tribute to Jack. I was totally in love with him as a young girl. I had his photos on my wall, had his records and even cut out some records they used to put on cereal boxes. I had his too. We all grow up though and leave our favorites behind. Sad. I remember seeing his name in Robin Hood and going back through to find him. So sad he turned to drinking and cancer took him. I remember being sad at hearing of his passing. Your video was a great surprise showing up on my Utube feed. Thank you again for the memories. RIP Jack. Gone but not forgotten.
Thank you so much ❤️ and thank you for watching! Yes!!! same for me - I had posters of Jack on my bedroom wall! It was very sad how things turned out - so much talent and promise - but he made such an impact and his legacy on screen still entertains old and new fans ❤️❤️🌹
John Farley. Your tribute brought tears to my eyes with its simplicity. I adored him as the "artful Dodger", but first as "Jimmy" in HR Pufnstuf. I was a child in the '70's and saw him as a teen. Then as a young adult discovered my love of musicals and found "Oliver!". There he was, but younger! I have always adored him and hold him close in my heart.
I absolutely loved watching Jack on TV. I must admit I really fancied the cheeky chappie too. I adored him in Oliver and when our boys were young we used to watch it with them. I think all young children should watch it to be honest. Thank you so much for this journey you took us on of Jacks life. I must admit I shed a few tears whilst watching it though. RIP Jack and thank you for the lovely memories of your acting career. x
Thank you so much and thank you for watching! I agree with you! It’s a brilliant film and it has stayed with me from the very first watch (more years ago than I care to mention 🤭🤭🤭) Jack was superb in Oliver! The whole film from start to finish was the perfect production - screen writers - cast and everyone else involved! Just unforgettable and has stood the test of time ❤️ xxxx
What a wonderful tribute to also one of my favourite actors! Oliver mesmerised my as a kid and 'consider yourself' was one of my favourite songs obviously because of the energy Jack brought to the scene
He couldn't have made a bigger impact. Jack WAS the Artful Dodger. Oh my God, Jack's thoughts on Oliver Reed. I read Oliver Reed's biography and wore an Oliver Reed T-shirt. Such a wonderful posting ❤
Thank you! I loved Oliver Reed! I’m researching for another video an the moment and I couldn’t believe when the person in their autobiography also mentioned the primrose yellow jag too! What a coincidence - I wouldn’t mind an Ollie Reed T-shirt - that’s so cool!
Thank you for this wonderful video on Jack Wild. The good news is that RU-vid has several episodes of EVERYDAY MATHS, his sitcom with Arthur English. Hilarious stuff. Plus Jack was an incredibly handsome young stud in his 20s.
What a wonderful honor for Jack. I was in love with him in the 60s and 70s and love HR Puffin stuff. 16 Magazine sent me a photo and a 45 which I loved and listened to often.I really loved Oliver! Our class went to the theater to see it. Thank you again
Thank you so much Rita! ❤️ Jack was wonderful! How lucky you were with the 16 Magazine phot and 45! Oh my goodness - I bet you were over the moon to receive that! Oliver is such a classic - I love the film so much- it must have been incredible to see it on the stage! ❤️❤️🌹
i remember watching H.R. Puffin stuff as a child. i enjoyed watching Jack as a child. Thank you for bringing his story back to life! Well done! Cheers!
Thank you for the memories, and my adoration of Jack Wild's earlier acting career, and the past of him I didn't know. Such an iconic actor he was, and remains in our hearts. Peace to you, Jack, and, "consider yourself"...at home now, and to everyone all the best.
