He was so funny, Hollywood just didn't know what to do with him because he had a weird delivery and twisted sense of humor! He was so funny in "The Producers"!
Thanks for this clip of Dick Shawn. I've been searching for years to find Shawn's classic routine -- never saw it-only heard of it. The premise is he's telling a sentimental story about his grandfather?..as the story progresses it gets more dramatic..the Battle Hymn of The Republic is playing..Shawn says,"I can see my granddaddy coming down the road..there he is..the music swells and then he tells the band to cut and says, "Stop..stop..it's not him!!!".
I have definitely seen routine that here on RU-vid, but you probably already know that since your comment is now old enough to ride a bike in long pants.
I love this guy at that age! At first, I didn't even know who he was (except from The Year Without a Santa Claus and It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World which my dad told me) until I looked him up on Wikipedia and he was in a bunch a stuff like The Producers and The Love Boat. Sadly he passed away a few years ago @ my dad's college:( Well @ least he's still alive inside my head as my BFF! :) BTW, he sounds exactly like Snow Miser @ that age! lol
