Agreed. Also "Scotch", "Sugar", White", "Eastern", "Western", "Japanese". But I doubt the doofus contestants on this episode would have gotten any of those clues.
Open a copy of a Webster's Dictionary and take a look! Many words have different meanings. Such as the word "Quench" which A.L. explained after C.S. did not understand. Quench a fire with water, or ---- quench your thirst with water. English and American-English is not always an easy language.
l think Allen Ludden was probably a nice man but oh my goodness these people can't concentrate because he talks too much....while these folks are giving clues, he should only be able to say 5 seconds and that's it...he would drive me nuts !!!
Feel free to leave. Don't let the door hit you on the back. Only a low IQ sports fan with a low attention span would not like a game show about words. The English language has MANY homonyms, synonyms and antonyms. Buy a dictionary and a thesaurus and start reading! This was NOT a good episode. Dick Shawn was a doofus. Clueless without a cue card. Connie Steven was a cute gal but did not know many words. Try watching episodes with Celebs such as Donna Douglas, Paul Anka, Peter Lawford, Betty White, June Lockhart & Ross Martin! Even good clues from celebs with brains do not help if the other player (contestant) never passed High School English class.
