Wow. "Laurie" just made me think of something. Back when I was 4th grade, a group of us, were always trying to write songs.(big time meetings on the school bus). This one kid named Mark, was part of the gang. 1 day every body had sung the future hits we'd written, 1 guy said "Hey Mark do 'Gloria'" we all were really impressed. NOW I find out, why it was such an impressive song. He simply changed Laurie for Gloria. I'm laughing pretty hard, now. He (Mark) didn't write any thing. Lmao! He fooled all of us. This was many moons ago, in the mid 60s. Joe, I always learn something watching your videos. Wow. Lmao! Thanks again. Lmao!!!

Lamar was going to give him the record but got distracted by the burger 🍔 and shake stand and pulled over for a meal 60s Elvis would have nailed that song by the time he did it was 76 and his health was failing and in thought his version just sounded tired like Elvis probably was feeling in real life the George Jones version infinitely better but I think a more prime Elvis could have bettered it.

To a British fan like myself, Dickey Lee was just a name, so thanks for an enlightening interview. It's good to know some 50's/60's stars, at least, are still around, & looking & sounding well. My favourite DL track is 'Amelia Earhart's last farewell.' Nice tune.

Joe, I had to chuckle when you mentioned your Cortez guitar. I had one back in the day. I think that I got that thing back in about 1978 and just got rid of it about 8 years ago. I was not a dyed-in-the-wool country music fan, but "Patches", "I Saw Linda..." and "Laurie" were big in my world. His producer(s) knew how to bring in the wider audience. Also, I've heard "She Thinks I Still Care" by more artists than I can count and never knew Dickie wrote it. A lot of talent in that man. Thanks for the good interview.

Joe, you continue to provide so much for us. This is a wonderful interview (can't wait for part 2). Dickey seems like such a decent person. Played his "Songs With a Story" LP hundreds of times over the years, and was blown away (like many others) by Laurie. I know he has contributed to many other artists as well.
