Lil dicky loves tying comedy into his music, we all know that. But I think the joke “they held me down and made fun of my d$&@“ could probably interpreted as how the industry viewed him, as a joke, or if where getting more meta with how he dresses in the music video a clown. which is probably why he stepped away to work on himself and how he wants his work to reflect himself to his audience as his self deprecating humor direct at himself can come off as either humble or foolish and wants to incorporate more serious/heart felt messages into his music while remaining comedic. Or it could just be lil dicky being lil dicky 😂 but I like the before mentioned interpretation more.

I agree you need a sense of triumph in music but it doesn’t need to come in the same song. You can tell a whole story over the course of an album or even multiple albums in NFs case and you get moments of triumph throughout and in the end leads you to more positivity if you go on the journey with the artists.
