Idk nothing about Wayne's mom besides her name he say on records. Idc about the rappers story all the time. I loved 50 for his music and Wayne for his music. I wasn't interested in Wayne's story though I became a fanatic. When I was a fanatic of 50 I cared about his story because the sh#t was interesting nothing more nothing less. So Math wrong ppl love the rappers for their talent not their story. If they have a story it does make ppl more invested especially if they can relate. I grew up uptown of DC 31, female, I don't relate to 50 being a drug dealer getting shot or nothing he went thru, I enjoyed his story after I fell in love with his music. His story only made me more invested as I bought his Book From Pieces to Weight. He had some funny stories in there too. Story is second, music first. Period. You ain't talented I ain't listening to you.

50 getting shot did give him this ultimate street nigga persona but let’s not act like that would’ve propelled him if he wasn’t as nice as he is. He had a deal with Columbia, if I remember correctly, when he got shot and they dropped him from the label for that very reason. 50 was putting so much heat on Murda Inc. and the story was told like they might’ve had something to do with him getting shot so it was super interesting. 50 cent & Dr Dre helped make Game a household name.. Yes having a story is very appealing to the masses, And promotion helps one become a household name. some people got talent but not popping due too the lack of the other 3 factors #dantana773

Best point made was Hoffa and what the names of 50 cent and Rick Ross meant to the streets before the rappers actually came out. Hoffa went over their heads with that point because no one acknowledged it and that point could’ve ended the convo. The names of their predecessors is basically the reason so many people took to them.

No really, I myself was just a young kid and I didn't grow up in the states or know anything about no 50 cent or freeway rick ross, I was a fan of 50's music and movement with G-unit and all that, but didn't know about the original 50 cent, this argument might apply to the cats from New York especially from Brooklyn who knew him or of him, the same goes for freeway rick on the west coast.

The masses only listen to story tellers or Melodie’s PERIOD so if you are strictly a rapper no melody you are a hell of a story teller… ie they tell their story early on and we gravitate to them cuz they’re talented and we can relate or empathize and recognize the introspection even if it’s about cookin up or shootings or doing the laundry

Who else are we even in here talking about?Game 1st piece "The Documentary" was one of the few discographies that went track for track with what "Get Rich Or Die Trying" did. 50, Jimmy Levine, Dre, all contributed, and made it great, but Game tapped into the hardest market (west coast) and put them back on the map. I think for the top Dawgs, legends, icons etc. It's the total package.. The story, skills, creativity, hard work and that "it" factor... can't teach that personality & "it" , some got it some don't. Like Em getting the launching pad by the co-sign with Dre & 50 getting the launching pad from Em and he took off from there from music to movies, to going from a street hustler to a corporate board room hustler.. but 50's smart af and was always thinking 3 moves ahead. From his beefs, to his trolling, shhiitt to him never having alcohol in his cup or fake sipping, so he was never slipping.. Game was/Is a dope Mc & lyricist but he didn't have an aura & personality of a 50 to have him transcend past hip hop.

Every grabs on to the story! Like Esso said they push marketing dollars and push the story more. That’s why every-time 50 go on late night tv shows wit those peoples like Conan, Letterman, The view and all those shows the first thing they ask him is how he got shot 9 times.. Then the audience is in aw and gravitate to his story

You can't make someone Buy you?? Wrong. It's called selling a character. Eminem was sold to the non hip-hop community, that you don't have to be a gang banger or drug dealer or black guy to make it. Yes, you have to have talent, but that's just 10%. The remaining 90 comes from selling your image/Character to the consumer.

I think rappers play up the persona and character. You aren't necessarily supposed to take them at face value, but those that did become disappointed. That's why a lot dumb shit popped off in the 90s because people assumed what the heard was the genuine article, and when it wasn't then its a problem. But damn near every rapper exaggerates his story, it helps build up the persona.
