The interviewer took what Adam was saying out of context. The interviewer is the one who said this was in reference to Rey, not Adam. Adam had just finished talking about a samurai movie, that was one of several films Rian Johnson used for inspiration. In that movie there was a princess hiding her identity in order to survive and Adam was using the comparison with his character Kylo In addition, Star Wars movies are coming of age movies, along with many other things. In this regard, Kylo, Rey and Finn are all emotionally stunted characters in The Force Awakens. The backstory of each of these characters supports this. As we head into The Last Jedi, all three of these characters will be facing challenges that resonate with things we go through during adolescence. Rian Johnson has discussed this specifically. At the beginning of The Force Awakens, Rey is around 19 and Kylo is 29, according to the new Canon. I don’t know what Finn’s age is. But despite those ages, these characters are acting much younger due to the type of story this is. And by the end of the third movie they will have all grown up quite a bit.

Also the novels are canon so why shouldn’t I be looking to the canon source material to craft theories? On another note, personally I don’t believe Rey is a secret princess because in interviews Ridley has mentioned in several times that Rey’s parentage was never supposed to be a big secret. In TFA Maz kanata tells Rey “the belonging you seek is not behind you, it is ahead.” I really think they intended for her parents to have no importance but after seeing the reaction to TFA they then decided to hype it up. That said given the fact that there was 3 weeks between TFA’s release and the start of TLJ filming I believe it is very unlikely that they would add in such a big twist that late in the game. Not impossible obviously but again it’s very unlikely. I think it’s more likely for her to be a kenobi or someone of similar standing where it really wouldn’t effect the plot too much but is still a nice nob to the fans Edit: Driver also could have been referring to the fantasy/fairytale archetype that was used in TFA and most likely carries over into TLJ

It hasn’t really been shown that anyone beyond Luke, Leia, Ben, Han, Maz, and arguably Snoke knows of Luke and Leia’s parentage, and it could be a scandal/threat waiting to engulf Leia, if not knowledge that the First Order has been putting out there courtesy of Ben and that Leia has had to deny. Of course, I haven’t read any of the post-ROTJ books yet so maybe I’m wrong. But this seems way more likely. It’d be way too big a nugget about Rey to let slip accidentally.

In the canon book Bloodline, 6 years prior to TFA it is revealed to the Galaxy at large that she is the daughter of Darth Vader, so even though she's the leader of the resistance (a group not openly sanctioned by the new Republic but wink-wink-nudge-nudge not opposed either), she IS in hiding because of this. What I want to've happend is luke was off on a jedi mission and his wife and kid(rey) were in the temple, and when kilo when through and killed everyone lukes wife was the last standing and kilo killed her in front of baby ray. But he couldn't bring himself to kill her because she was a child, but he did leave her in the burning temple. But luke got there gust in time to save baby ray and his wifes body. He knew ray would never be safe with him, han, or leia so he paid off that fat alien on jakku to keep her safe. Afterwards this broken luke would go where the first order could never find him and bury his wife in piece. But he left a map for ray to find him when her powers "awakend" and he could train her.

The EU was called the EU for a reason. Lucas kept it separate in case he wanted to make movies post RTJ. Remaking the EU would just have made things really complicated and make no one happy as changes would have had to be made because they would be adaptations. And it ended up in very weird place too so I was glad they scrapped it and brought Star Wars back to film where it belongs. I'm still a fan of Legends, or what was the EU, but it just got strange and the story never really moved on from Luke even though the whole point of most of the books was about the new generation. Disney never removed the EU from canon. It was never there to begin with.

Here's what I think: If she is a princess, she probably descended from Duchess Satine. Satine like had a child without telling Obi Wan before she was killed by Maul, but didn't get the chance to tell him. The problem with this theory is that royalty would likely not have to sell their child for drinking money. Also, the parent of Rey, (Obi Wan's child) would not necessarily have to have the force, or at least they would not know that they have it.
Rey tells BB8 early in TFA that where's she's from is a "big secret." But in TLJ she asks the mirror cave to let her see her parents, with the implication that she doesn't know who they are. Rey knows more about her background than she's letting on, but I don't think she knows who her parents are.
Adam driver was just referring to princess as to what you call a delicate girl. He doesn’t think Rey stands any chance against him and just thinks of her as petty and seamy which is why he called her a princess
I honestly think he was talking about Leia not Rey when he says a princess hiding her identity. Cause in a way, after Bloodline, she's been more or less on the run from the Republic which is curious because of the connections between Leia (who goes by General now, not Princess), and the New Republic. She's also being more of less hunted by the First Order too. I honestly believe he was refering to Leia when he said that, because again, she isn't going by Princess anymore. C-3PO even corrects himself in TFA when he nearly calls her princess.
He could have just said "princess" in the sense that her character is a princess kind of role, referring to story layout. She is the main female character - that is seen as "the princess role" - whereas Kylo is "the villain role". What he is trying to get at I think is she isnt just a princess, like Kylo isn't just a villain.
Sounds to me that the context he's using for the term "Princess" is that Rey is an innocent young woman, doesn't know the real world, experiencing the much more harsh realities that she's known/used to. I don't think he meant that she was royalty.
I think you guys should google more about star wars. There's a possibility of rey being a princess or even one of the celestial decedent. There was an ancient kingdom on galaxy and she might come from the heritage. ALso remember, we still dont have a clue about unknown regions where nobles from pre-republic time still exist
I've wondered if she wasn't the child of Obiwan & Satine (The Mandalorian Duchess). They shared an obvious unique connection that didn't go unnoticed. She's also uniquely invited to his faked death funeral. It seemed odd for only being good friends that she would travel so far. The only problem is the timeline - she died in Obiwan's arms. I know that in canon Serine had a nephew that looked like he could have been am illegitimate child of hers & Obiwan's. From this hidden lineage we could have our answer. There was clearly more between them than platonic affection - Obiwan said he'd leave the order for her - think on that.

He was talking about another book or movie or something to compare Kylo's backstory and the GQ article took it out of context. he's said multiple times that he was annoyed by that because it's not fair to the actors when journalists take quotes out of context. I highly doubt that we've heard the final say on Rey's origins. Just because she, herself believes the story that we've been given, doesn't mean that there isn't more to it. Maybe she's just believing her worst fears with encouragement/deception from Kylo. Kylo's blinded by his own belief that he needs to kill the past in order to move forward. It could be another Luke and Leah scenario, except, this time, it was kept well hidden from the prying eyes of those gifted in the force. We saw how powerful Leah was. She could also be Luke's, as he is the Son of royalty. Why would Kylo and Rey seem to have such a powerful connection--that even they can't explain, unless they weren't related somehow. She was even able to wield Kylo's light saber. Daisy Ridley, herself, thought that it was pretty obvious where Rey came from. I don't know that this confirms any royalty theory, but it certainly wouldn't lead one to suspect that her parents were nobody. Her name is Rey, for crying out loud, as Ra, the sun god. I believe that Han knew who Rey was because he looked so proud of her when she was climbing that wall, then when she said upon arriving on Mos’ planet that she never knew such green existed, Hans’s face looks alternately sad and guilty. Then, when Rey goes after Finn when he wants to run away, Han looks like, “damn, here we go again!” Also, I believe that Mos K. suspected who Rey was when she asked Han, “who’s the girl?” One last thing that’s interesting is that Han must have confirmed Rey’s identity or Mos would not have told Rey that the lightsaber was Luke’s father’s, then Luke’s, and now it calls to Rey! Sound’s familial to me! However, I want Rey to belong to Jyn Erso and Luke! Her identity will probably be a let down in the end, because that’s how it usually turns out, damn it!!!!

rey is han and leias kid, its so obvious. hans ship was left behind on jakoo where rey was. in the last jedi kylo says her parents were junkers and they lost a bet, in the previous episodes han is always loosing bets so he could of lost his own child and his ship, plus how does kylo know so much about reys parents??? they must be linked somehow. plus in the comics (i know its not canon) han and leia had twins. at least one of reys parents had to be force sensitive or was strong with the force which leia was. it has also been rumered that rey is in relation to royalty which leia also was and so was padme. it just makes sense really

The "parents" in the Force Awakens could have just been the people raising her...infants have no memory. Maybe sending Rey as a baby to Jakku, the land of nothing, was for a reason...So no one would find her.

I think you misunderstand. What Adam Driver means by 'princess' is probably a 'Disney princess', which Rey no doubt is. Not that Rey being a Skywalker or some other hero's descendant is no longer a possibility, but that's probably what he meant.
Maybe a princess of Mandalore. In one of the Mandalorian episodes of rebels you can see that the royal guard uses the same staffs that Rey has. Just a guess...
