The Armourer was manifestly underqualified for her job. Baldwin, as Producer had been the one to sack the properly qualified Armourer and hire Gutierrez because he was the one paying the bills and she worked cheap. He had been involved in several disputes with the Armourer she replaced because that man was insistent on adhering strictly to safety regulations and Gutierrez had indicated she would be much more compliant. One of those safety regulations the original armourer had had numerous disputes with Baldwin over was that no one should ever point a gun, loaded, unloaded, whatever, at any other human being. They are both equally at fault, in my opinion.

I'm 73 years old and when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade My Dad was around when a friend of mine came over to show me his new BB rifle. I without thinking pointed the BB gun at my friend and pretended to shoot him without actually shooting the rifle, I just made a noise with my mouth. My Dad got a hold of me and gave me lecture that to this day I will never forget. He told me, he was a WW2 veteran, that under no circumstances to ever, ever point a firearm at a person even if you know it's unloaded. He was really upset with me and what he said made a strong impression. Never, never under any circumstances, ever point a firearm at another human being, even if it's unloaded or even had the firing pin removed, don't ever point a gun at anybody! He then added, that's one way people can get shot and possibly die! Note, my Dad was pro - 2nd amendment and wasn't against guns at all, he just knew what firearms could do especially when it comes to children. If Alec Baldwin was raised with these values this shooting never would have happened. Note, while I was growing one of my friends lost an eye while playing with his BB Gun and one of my friends went deer hunting with his Dad and accidently got to shot to death in a hunting accident, and that's just in my small circle of friends. It seems my Dad knew what he was talking about and that he knew me, I'm thankful!

To clarify, never point a firearm at a person you are not willing to shoot. I know I'm being technical, but sometimes firearms are supposed to be pointed at people - in case of people who might need to be shot, like your dad's enemies during WW2. Sorry to be picky, but it's a bone of contention that I have since the world's first firearms were indeed invented for the sole purpose of being aimed and shot at people. I think that remembering this fact is actually beneficial to people handling firearms. They weren't invented for fun. They were invented to effectively kill and maim the people they are aimed and fired at. When people think about this, they tend to have more respect for and adherence to firearms safety. It's fine to use guns for recreation, but never forget why they were invented in the first place and what they are capable of. (And for all the hunters out there, sorry, but hunting animals with firearms was merely an afterthought. The original purpose behind the invention (by the Chinese in the 12th century) was to kill your enemy in combat more far more effectively than you could do with swords, arrows or blunt objects.) It is a sobering thought, but an important one that should never be forgotten. If you think about this whenever you handle a gun, you're a lot more likely to not do stupid and dangerous things with one, like pointing it at your friend as a joke. But don't suggest that a firearm should NEVER be pointed at someone. A firearm should certainly be pointed at anyone who maliciously threatens your life or the lives of any other innocent person who needs to be immediately defended from the threat of death or great bodily injury. Guns can be fun (and I certainly have had fun with them at the range), but first and foremost, they are deadly weapons intended to take out a human enemy threat.

I remember at the time, it was reported that during breaks in filming, some of the crew members would often use the gun(s) for target practice or "plinking" in the desert near the set. I think it's most likely that was why the revolver had live ammo in it. Someone was using it for recreation and failed to unload it after, and the armorer also failed to check it prior to it being taken back onto the set. The director also failed to check it, and so did Baldwin. (That was at least one explanation given at the time, but only a trial will tell.)

The public are a lost cause, half the nation can't wrap their head around the concept that a prop gun, is different than a real gun. They want the actor who played Othello in their local public junior high brought up on murder charges for the stabbing. "Othello should know better, when I was in the scouts, first thing they taught me, never unsheathe a knife lest though intends to stabeth thee". I cannot tell you how many people have repeated that, with complete confidence as if it was coherent and applied. Even in this comment section, countless examples, 0 self awareness. As for the cops, never speak to the cops. It's so easy to get someone to misstate something, and once you do it can be used against you, you have to correct it which is an admittance of guilt, or continue to lie which is just as bad for your case. The secondary tragedy here is what media is putting the victims loved ones through, so some people can use it for political gain. People get hurt on stage all the time, the reason this is such a big deal is Baldwin is anti second amendment, and the people who are very pro 2nd amendment also happen to hate Hollywood at the moment too, so people want to politicize this and drag the victims through the mud.

I have worked in professional films and theatre. There are very redundant and careful protocols for weapon use on film and in stage. At the very least everyone who handles the gun is responsible for checking it, and two people check it every time the gun changes hands. You NEVER aim the gun at someone, and there are many ways to cheat this so it looks like you're aiming at someone when you are not. The only way something like this tragedy happens is that people do not follow the safety protocols or do not take them seriously. The fact that there was more than one incident is unbelievable and unforgivable. Baldwin's argument is flawed, as there are well known protocols in place to make sure the guns are checkes by everyone who touches them with a qualified person present. These are common industry wide precautions, and the only way they fail ia when they arw ignored. For Baldwin, with 5 decades of film and theatre experience not to know this is frankly unbelievable.

I was an armorer in the military and I considered trying to find work in the film industry when I retired doing this exact thing. I can say that I do not want an actor doing ANYTHING to a gun that I just made secure. Once he starts opening cylinders, racking slides to check the chamber-- while that is considered basic gun safety at the range- on a movie set with some actor remembering lines, getting make up, Baldwin was wearing other hats behind the camera too......just let the armorer set the gun up for the scene and take it away after. There should never be live ammunition on any set. There is zero reason to have live rounds anywhere near where people are pointing guns at each other. There really is no reason for any functional firearm in the movie industry. There should be 3 categories of firearm for film. Plastic replicas for anything that isn't shooting or showing moving parts. A second category for guns where moving parts are shown- these should be made inoperable by use of slug barrels, removed firing pins, beads welded in cylinders, etc. The most rare category are dedicated blank guns incapable of even loading live rounds and with safety barrels to prevent fragments of brass from escaping. It's not like Hollywood is too poor to purchase custom made prop guns. Even a low budget Alec Baldwin film is throwing around millions of dollars for catered lunches and air conditioned actor trailers but not custom guns totally incapable of this sort of accident it would seem.

In my opinion whether there was target shooting going on or not Alec Baldwin was still ultimately responsible. He was the co-producer He's responsible for everything on the set. Also if he had followed even just the most basic gun safety rules none of this would have happened. I also find it laughable that in previous interviews with Alec Baldwin when he was bitching about gun control he says he grew up shooting with his father and knows all about the dangers of firearms since he was a child. Now all of a sudden he can't be held accountable cuz he's no expert and there's nothing about firearms even though he's used dozens in films.

yes, these comments are because they do not like his political stance. no way for the actor to know after its handed to you by the armorer and deemed cold.

BALDWIN took the gun from someone other than the armorer and still didn't check it himself, Hall could have put the live round in there, anyone that is required to handle a weapon must check the gun themselves, you can't trust these jabronises elst some beautiful woman will get laid in her grave from a piece of Garbage like Alec Baldwin, good thing for Baldwin that wasn't a relative of mine because me and my four brothers wouldn't give a turd about what the corrupt American justice system did about it. What do you think the Goldman and Brown families think about the American justice system?

The comments on RU-vid about this are so much more educated than comments you see on Facebook. Just a bunch of Alec Baldwin fans angry that he's facing consequences, being so vocal about his innocence but don't know about the negligence that took place on set

Morning Dr Grande. The safety issues were reckless. As far as A Baldwin, he had two experts too handle that but also pointing at gun at someone can lead to this scenario. Thank you Dr Grande. Excellent analysis. Tragic outcome and informative topic.

Hello lovely! ❤ My guess is AB will take a plea deal to a lesser offense. Though, being a narcissist person, he might want to fight it, tooth and nail. He'll fail if he does that. Great comment. Much love, prayers & sisterly hugs to you. Always. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜💜🖤🤍💔

They were target practicing and partying on set. A lax environment.

I think he'll probably be found guilty because of the fact that it was essentially his set. He was not just an actor but producer as well which gives him more responsibility than any of the others on set. My guess is that the state found some evidence that he was told of the unsafe situations on set which would then negate his claim that he didn't know anything. He was also the one to fire first armorer so he's also responsible for the fact that Hannah was unqualified.

He is one of 12 producers, and it is a production company out of Georgia that made the hiring decisions. The director also has some of responsibility for the activities on the set.

He also pointed the gun at somebody and fired!

@@Joelswinger34 He is going to be found less culpable as an actor than potentially as a producer. There will be a long line of actors called that will testify that the production team gives them guns that are supposedly safe. I appreciate what Clooney does with dry firing or witnessing the dry firing of any revolver he is given, but that is not what actors normally do. Realistically that was the only way an actor can actually check to see that this replica antique revolver was loaded with dummy rounds and not live rounds.
@Shatara

As executive producer , it was his job to hire well qualified crew to handle fire arms safety. They had already found live rounds on the set prior. Others are at fault as well , but as soon as live rounds were realized any competent person would know to pull all , either physically checking or , better still , replacing. There's plenty of negligence , recklessness and incompetence to go around here !

The first rule of holding a firearm is to always assume it is loaded and the second rule is don't touch it if you don't know how to use it.
