Achilles vs Memnon duel would be a good narrative.

Actually Achilles vs. Memnon duel is already included in the Trojan War Animated Documentary that I did! It's over 1 hour long, if you haven't make sure to check it out! Perhaps a separate episode on Memnon and his life would be a good idea for an episode?

15] After a few days news was suddenly brought that Hector and a few other men had set out to meet Penthesilea, the queen of the Amazons.2 Why she was coming to Priam’s aid, whether for money or simply because of her love of war, was uncertain; her race, being naturally warlike, was always conquering the neighboring peoples and carrying the Amazon standards far and wide. Accordingly, Achilles chose a few faithful comrades and hastened to lay an ambush for the Trojans. He caught them off guard - they were trying to cross the river - and surrounded and slew them before they knew what had hit them. Hector and all those who were with him were killed; with the single exception of one of Priam’s sons, whom Achilles captured and, having cut off his hands, sent back to Troy to tell what had happened. Achilles was being driven to bestial acts, first by the slaughter of his most hated enemy, and then by his lasting grief of Patroclus. Having stripped Hector of armor, he tied the body, feet bound together, behind his chariot, then mounted and ordered Automedon, his charioteer, to give the horses free reign. And so he went galloping over the plain where he could be most easily seen dragging his enemy. A new and terrible kind of revenge.

Achilles and Hector are mentioned Linear B texts, although as shepherds not warriors. This shows that these names were common in the mycenean period.

Face to face combat of the leaders are a favourite of legends, but probably unlikely. However some rulers have died in battle, but not usually this has not involving the actual leaders actually duelling each other, because of political consequences.

Interest Well it could happen historically if you remove the divine interventions interventions up but they happen the way dead I'm not so sure it will be one side of perspective based on achilles

In the original texts, it says that Achilles had too chase Hector around on the outside of walls back a forth,,, an Hector wouldn't fight,,, but Achilles caught up with him, killed him with ease!
@XxD0m
@XxD0m Год назад
That’s not exactly true. After being chased for a time, Hector accepted his fate and chose to stand and fight before being killed. Not as heroic as the movie Troy portrayed him. But not as cowardly as you describe.

I'D Say Hektor was keeping an eye out for Achilles knowing he be raging after the death of Patroclus, so after avoiding him for like three times around the Trojan walls, Hektor though he see his Brother Deiphobus, then at that moment he began to throw a spear at Achilles then went to ask his Bro for another spear to be thrown but he was gone, the writings state that it was Athena disguised as Deiphobus, any way Hektor then went fourth to fight against Achilles.

Nice video and congrats on your content but i believe you've made a mistake .Hector wasn't inside the walls on the day he died nor he came out to face Achilles . The trojan army was already outside on the field and upon retreat Hector arrived at the gates and decided to make his last stand there. Best regards
@WanaxTV
@WanaxTV 2 года назад
Well, you're right. In fact, the more accurate depiction I've already done in the "Trojan War - Animated Documentary", it's more than 1 hour long and pretty much depicts the whole war, without the divine interventions. This video is done in attempt to question and research the possible historicity of the event, rather than to actually depict every detail of the duel. Best regards!

i like to think it as while both armies are fighting out side the Trojan wars, Hektor was keeping a eye out for Achilles knowing that he killed his BEST FRIEND And Achilles was known to be the most skilled warrior with rage, so Hektor was like thinking of to kill off as many of the Achaean's solider's as he can before he faces the REAL Achilles knowing his chances were STACKED Against him, so after like Three times of circling the walls of Troy and killing lots of Achaean's and before getting totally gassed out , Then he thought come on then Achilles lets see who this goes and also Hektor thought he see his brother Deiphobus and felt he had back up from a BROTHER His real Brother , but It was Athena pretending to be Deiphobus , Felt sorry for Hektor's son really.

Another great video … But modern historians discuss two dates for the trojan war … 1250 or 1175 bce … And Maybe it a Series of trojan wars.. But lets say there a conflct . What would have happened after the victory .. Well not all greeks would have returned home…. So some would have properbly have stayed in region and have settled down . Mycenean pottery and burial mounts have been found in region of Troy . Also pieces of the classic mycenean scale armor have been found at troy . So after the war . Some people would have stayed behind and settled down . Marrying in Local families … And means that greek pressence in the region of Troy started in the bronze age…

I generally use the chronology determined by Eratosthenes for the timeline of Trojan war and related events. For sure there have been different periods where the archeological evidence suggests war and damage/destruction of the site of Troy, one of those being early 12th century BC, which corresponds very well with the dates used here, also used by a great number of scholars.

Great video, as always thanks for your efforts. I look forward to more content from this era! Just one thing - Patroclus wasn't Achilles' cousin (anywhere except for the Holywood adaptation). While Homer only states that they had a deep and meaningful friendship, works by other archaic and classical authors such as Aeschylus portray them as lovers. This also explains Achilles' reaction to his death, and why the two are said to be 'reunited' in the underworld in Virgil's Aeneid.

They really were like second cousins or like second nephew or uncle some how, not first cousin's , but it was Achilles father and Patroclus Grand father were cousins or something like that and they were best pal's too, people look into it more and make up false claims, both had many women and won many battles, like today's films, if ya BF or a family member gets killed then revenge it is, plus when Patroclus died they knew each other for 25 years, both meet at like 9 and 12, Patroclus was like 3 years older i found from all the writings.

I have stood on the mound main entrance (Scaean gate Troy VI) this summer exactly where Achilles is said to have shouted to Hector. I looked down at the fields and imagined Achilles standing there, shouting like a madman in the otherwise completely still summer air. There is something in the air at that place. Something ancient. Not just old. But truly ancient. Like Buzz Aldrin described the moon as “Magnificent Desolation”. The archeological dig site of Troy, I would call a “Desolate Magnificence”. There is an energy to the place that should not be there. It’s just a massive pile of walls, rocks and dirt. Completely desolate with only the loud summer crickets chirping. But the air is busy with an energy at the same time I can’t explain. I saw the archeologists working on the Troy I-II ramp, main entrance digging in the 40c heat, taking notes, picking up tiny pieces of rock and examining them. A junior member was examining a section and asked whether he could use a little bit of his water to help him clear up some alluvial. The senior member answered “water???? ” making it obvious that was not correct. I spoke to the farmers in Tevfikiye and Kumkale, the closest modern villages to the original town. After having driven around the entire region the native people of those specific few villages around Troy have a certain look to them. The men have very thick dark eyebrows and very small eyes. There are more blue eyed people among them than you would expect for the region. If you ever go there make absolutely sure you do not miss the museum (it’s very close to the dig site). The museum is a massive modern cube building. It is an amazing experience. And by the street opposite the main entrance be sure to buy a few little statues and souvenirs from 70 year old Mehmet abi and his wife, they sit in the scorching sun all day selling their wares to the very few tourists who happen to stop by.

"the divine cloud where gods have the ultimate say" It so happens, that part could happen immediately, all you need is those first recording the facts, well before Homer, believing these gods to have the say in the events they witness and anakysing them accordingly.

they did meet at like 10 or 11, got rained together up in till Achilles was asked to go to War for the Achaean's , but i think there father and grand father are cousin's or something like that , so maybe like are second cousin's or second nephew or something, also when Patroclos dies age 35, just think man they knew each other like 25 years as best pal's , also Achilles Ex from Skyros Slept with Patroclus wanting to know why Achilles respected his best pal so much, also even Brises cry's when Patroclus dies , because he treated with a lot of kindness and respect, ironically he was the one of the two who guided Achilles in things stating safety first sand stuff.

Nowhere in the Iliad is Patroclus described as the cousin of Achilles. That was invented for the film.

Well, Achilles' grandfather Aeacus and Patroclus' father Menoetius were both descendants of Aegina, so I've counted the connection through that line. :)

Maybe tanned, Maybe Olive skin, like a very tanned white man, he has Blonde hair in the writings. I read somewhere that in a certain time in ancient Greece they used black paint and painted a lot of warriors black on pottery jugs and stuff.
