One would hope but IDK. Purely anecdotal: my mother and her husband ran a small rental business. This was in the early 2000s. One of their tenants was a 21 year old single mother with THREE children, the first born when she was 13. The father was 21 when she had the first. He also fathered the younger two. No one ever reported him. Until he got hold of the babysitter who DID speak out and he went to prison.

How is it possible for this woman to get invasive medical treatments for her daughter without any diagnosis? Cancer? Are you kidding me? Weren’t tests conducted to determine if she was truly having all the medical conditions claimed? This is disturbing! I believe the medical professionals have a responsibility here. I don’t condone murder, but I see how someone who had been systemically abused can commit this act against their abuser!

This is on a smaller scale, but my step daughter’s drug-seeking mother recently took my step daughter to the doctor for what was essentially a cold. Like many of us when we have sinus drainage, she felt a little sick on her stomach…no vomiting, just nausea. Her mother convinced the doctor to give her Zofran, which is only supposed to be given to kids for chemotherapy side effects or kids who are severely dehydrated due to a lot of vomiting. It is not for a mere stomach ache. My step daughter didn’t even know she had gotten a prescription for vomiting, so I have no doubt her drug head mom got it for herself. I think some doctors just do whatever to get people in and out and get the money.

She probably could have tried to walk in front of people at parties but Dee Dee injected her with insulin when she tried to taste sugar at parties. Not to mention, she left and came back. That's willingly inserting herself back into danger. She's guilty. It's like that one shooting, where the lady went to go get her gun, and then returned back to the home to shoot at her bf and his kid. If you have to the opportunity to leave and don't, that's shows you're the attacker.
@Sarahopal
@Sarahopal 8 месяцев назад
@grumpyoldlady_rants are you sure, though? Sounds like her mom was not above poisoning people. And she already felt she was losing control. If a man beats his wife daily and one day, she says, "I am not gonna put up with this anymore." If she shoots him as he raises his hand to her, we call that self-defense. He hasn't attempted to kill her. But we know he could've. She doesn't need to be actively strangling her to call it self-defense. My mom was absolutely awful, but I can't even imagine the hell Gypsys mom put her through. Medicines, shots, keeping her stuck in a chair, shaving her head, making her so sick she couldn't care for herself... not to mention the insane emotional abuse. Crap I would've probably killed my mom, too, in that situation
@Sarahopal
@Sarahopal 8 месяцев назад
@whateverwhatever4026 a full grown adult woman shooting at a man AND a child is a very different situation. I don't think she truly thought she could leave. Not for real leave. You don't spend your entire life being that horrifically abused and come away able to rationalize things properly.

@whateverwhatever4026 8 месяцев назад
@@Sarahopal Rose was also an adult when she murdered her mother. She DID leave multiple times, and then willingly came back. It's not just the one time mentioned in the video, where she was caught and punished. The @bu$3 doesn't give you permission to murder. AT BEST, IF it's immediate self defense from CURRENT @bu$3, that could be argued. But again, she exited the danger, showing she knew how to protect herself. Willingly returned to it, and then manipulated someone else to murder for her. She DEFINITELY has the cognitive ability to know what she was doing. Took us a month to scrape off one barnacle that literally gave themselves sepsis and as soon as they started getting better with start refusing their antibiotics... Then if they started to get too sick they would take them again. They were really good at keeping themselves on a knife edge so they had to be kept in the hospital. So glad to hear Dr. Grande take this stance. This is precisely how I feel about this case. Gypsy was physically, emotionally, and psychologically abused her entire life. She has life long health issues because of this abuse, and I can't imagine the extent of the psychological damage that was done. She was a prisoner who killed her captor and abuser in an attempt to free herself from torture. It is a cruel injustice that this woman was sentenced to be incarcerated for another decade when her whole life up to that point was effectively a prison sentence.

Interesting take Dr Grande. You brought up points that made me re-think my own opinion. In my time spent as a psych nurse I, and my superiors, have reported two cases of suspected Munchausen by Proxy and, to my knowledge, nothing came of either report, although they were far from frivolous Why would doctors hesitate to make an official report? And why would other doctors perform unnecessary procedures without the most preliminary of tests? There are so many troubling factors in this case, it’s almost impossible to untangle the mess that is Gypsy’s life. My main issue for me is wondering how her mother managed to convince medical professionals that her daughter was seriously ill? Surely, blood tests, ECGs, X-rays and other medical procedures would have shown no sign of disease or significant health issues? It all sounds rather bizarre to me. I watched my granddaughter go through gruelling leukaemia treatment as a toddler, and still struggle to this day with the trauma and realisation that we nearly lost her on several occasions. There was never a time that the hospital was not in complete control of her treatment regimen. She is now close to her last checkup appointments, at the age of fourteen. 🎉 Gypsy was let down by so many people - it breaks my heart.

It was a terrible thing that happened to her but she learned from her mother and turned into a bigger predator than Dee Dee ever was. As such she should be serving much more time along with Godejohn. @@cglenn1457 that’s kind of the interesting part, though most self defense cases are people who are literally about to be murdered, that’s not required for self-defense in most states (I’m a law student so I learned the factors in law school). You don’t need someone to be running at you with a knife for self-defense. There’s actually lots of cases where people in abusive relationships kill their abusers and they are able to get off on self-defense grounds even if they weren’t being physically abused in that exact moment. For self defense you need 1. Absence of provocation from defendant 2. Actual belief that you are in imminent danger to your life 3. Reasonable grounds for that belief 4. Absence of reasonable possibility for retreat. Now its debatable whether Gypsy actually did have a reasonable option for retreat, but it’s definitely possible for her to have gotten self-defense. Her punishment, if i were the judge here, really would stem from her involvement of Nick. Gypsy was initally, purely an undeserving victim, but she became a perpetrator, no different than her mother Dede, when she manipulated nick into pulling the trigger. Her mother, who was THEE perpetrator, ended up a deserving victim. Nick, ultimately pays the biggest price(loss of freedom and future), while trying to do the "right thing" for someone that was just taking advantage of a cognitively diminished person. Nick should've been granted the reduced sentence(equivalent to his diminshed mental status). Gypsy should've been given a prison term of 15-25years for her coercion of nick to pull the trigger/responsibility for stripping him of his freedom/future. Upon her release from prison, should she shouldve been also given the conditional probation of 21 years, for taking her mother's life, should she conceive a child.

Anyone else feel like the boyfriend's sentence was a little harsh? I get he committed the murder, but he was certainly encouraged to do so. One could argue he did it to protect Gypsy. That he was convinced, as she was, this was her only chance to survive. Not to mention that he was diagnosed with mental health issues/deficiencies. I understand him being found guilty, but life without parole? Makes me wonder if he had proficient legal representation, or maybe there was an offer on the table that he refused? My gut says since the state felt Gypsy was getting such a "gift" that they felt someone had to truly answer for the murder, so they dropped the hammer on Nicholas. I am in no way saying he is innocent or didn't deserve some degree of punishment, but maybe parole after 20-25 years?

I hadn't heard that Dee Dee's ashes were flushed down the toilet. Somehow this information made me very happy. I believe that she is the only guilty party is this entire case. There is and never will be a justification for murdering another human being. There were places and people she could have turned to, without a doubt. People complain that medical profs don't listen to them about themselves or their children when the docs can't find anything wrong. But yet, according to the comments people are also mad at the medical community for listening to the mom that she actually had problems. People don't understand, especially during this time, doctors very often make a diagnosis based on symptoms and many things don't show up in "testing." Genetic testing was in its infancy at this time. Medical professionals are often caught between a rock and a hard spot between trying to listen to and validate patients (or their parents) complaints, while also dealing with people that do in fact make up illnesses or are hypochondriacs. The biggest injustice in this case is the fact that the man that actually carried out the act will rot in prison forever, while the mastermind now walks free. He felt he was helping to avenge the abuse of someone he cared for, but would have never done this had it not been for Gypsy Rose's planning and encouragement to do so. He should not have gotten any more time than she did. If she had gotten away, it's not self defense by definition. But she took an uninvolved person down with her, just as her mom did to her. This is the ultimate injustice

Literally a perfect case of male disposability, that is the way it is when all the fakeness of society is wiped away. We are only good for what we can do, not for what we are like women. And when we are no longer useful or have fulfilled our use to others, we are thrown away like garbage and no one cares. If you are exceptionally attractive it can augment your disposability somewhat but at the end of the day the pretty boys get flushed too, it just takes alot longer.

This case is extremely sad. I don't think her hero boyfrend, being autistic should spend the rest of his life in jail. She convinced him to save her, and he did just that. She convinced him to help her, probably his first ever girlfriend, and he seems to left holding the bag for DeDe's evil. Let him out. I hardly think it is appropriate if Gypsy got second-degree murder when she thought up the whole plan, supplied the weapons, and her boyfriend then was accused of first degree murder. I suppose he will be forever forgotten in prison. He did the world a favor.
