I always thought he was in a kind of limbo between life and death. He wouldn't die unless he chose to move on and he wouldn't be truly alive again unless he chose to come back. Harry says, "I've got to go back, haven't I?" And Dumbledore says, "That is entirely up to you. You say we are in King's Cross? I think if you so desire, you can board a train." "And where would that take me?" "On."
@ObsessiveGeek

Limbo is between Existence and Non-existence, it can only be visited by being disconnected from the mortal realm. It’s not “true death” but it is still part of the experience of dying. Harry wouldn’t have had a choice to move on otherwise. I feel like we just tend to consider “death” in very black and white terms, like life, it is multi faceted and complex, especially in the Wizarding World when we have Ghosts who are neither alive nor truly dead.

@ObsessiveGeek
@ObsessiveGeek 3 месяца назад
@@Ranger1812Yet, he could have chosen to move “on” had he so wished. This also is fact and matters. Had he made this choice there would be no debate on if he lived or died. It’s simply that as physical beings we struggle to see death in non-permanent forms, we dismiss it as “didn’t count”, but it absolutely does. Limbo is a transitional point, shifting from existence to non-existence. We only get to this point by dying.

Remember in Order Of The Phoenix when Uncle Vernon had his hands around Harry's neck strangling him when he caught him outside the window listening to the news? Vernon got something like an electrical shock that made him let go. I've always assumed that this was one more way Lily's protection helped Harry. Am I correct tin thinking this? Or was it just more accidental magic like flying to the school rooftop to get away from Dudley? I figured that Harry was past accidental magic once he got to Hogwarts and learned to control it-well, except for blowing up Aunt Marge.

@@satsujin-shathewitchkingof6185 Interesting. To me, that goes more towards making something happen that was not fully controlled when his feelings were peaked. If one of the boys had touched him and something happened, I would go with the hocrux part. It’s a bit grey since the necklace did react to strangle Harry before he could reach the sword. Mostly though, it seems the horcrux would react when force was being applied to destroy them.

I always believed that what happened to him was a purer version of what happened to Voldermort in Godric’s Hollow. So he became ‘less than sprit, less than the meanest ghost…but still [he] was alive’. And the reason he could chose to come back was because it wasn’t his own horcrux keeping himself alive, it was Voldermort’s making his soul remain pure and cause the afterlife to give him a choice. I think that if a horcrux makes you survive as "less than the meanest ghost," then wouldn't a "lovecrux" make you die as.... "less that the meanest.... death"? Like, technically you're dead, but not really, in the same way that a horcrux makes you alive, but not really.

The piece of Voldermort we see in Limbo **IS** the fragment that was inside Harry, this is how Harry was able to “survive” Death by being fixed to Limbo and being able to then actively make a choice to be resurrected. However it was only a direct attack by Voldermort himself that would result in this specific scenario, I’m not as confident with what death looked like for him though personally I don’t think its as hellish, I like to think he is able to pass on through. His existence was tragic enough without adding eternal punishment.

I have a slightly different twist on the love crux idea being the reason it wasn't binding. It is only partially binding, however Lily's protection on Harry only was removed by the caster, in the case of the Cruciatus Curses used on him. What if the reason that the spells Voldemort used was neither binding or ineffective on the battlers of Hogwarts is because he returned from the dead? So they received only partial protection from the love crux?

yeah, i really don't think so... the fact that with harry and Voldemort are in kings cross to me it indication that wherever they are is not death because voldemort can't get to death, not in that moment, but not even after he "dies" in the end, that is the price for ripping his soul, not being able to properly die and endure feeling weak and suffering for eternity. Harry also gets to choose if he wants to go back or move "on", which seems much more like they're in some sort of limbo than in a proper afterlife to me. one that Dumbledore can reach from death and one that harry, at this time can freely move in either direction in. Harry casting sacrificial protection is easily explained by him meaning to die, voldemort even says "but you didn't die!" and harry responds with "but I meant to!" indicating that he didn't in fact die and that actual death isn't a requirement for the charm... not entirely sure how you guys missed that since it's probably on the same page as a quote that was used in this video... those bits of dialogue are very close to each other.

Harry did not die, of course. Dumbledore says: "On the whole my dear boy, I think not." In the final battle Voldemort says: "But you did not(die)!", Harry: "I meant to and thats what did it." Actually dying is not a requirement for sacraficial love.

As many others have said, i viewed this as a Limbo state or sort of "pre-death.". I don't think that the flayed soul there was the bit from Voldy prime, but rather all of the fragments from his horcruxes trying-and failing- to reconnect. They are stuck there, no vessel to go back to, but unable to move on due to the other fragments anchoring them to the living world.

I had a thought when you said "Quirrel was a horcrux". Would just holding Nagini kill the snake? Does the protection only work against living things? For example the locket didn't melt away when Harry touched it. Is the protection against that piece of Voldemort's soul in particular?

I’ve always just thought that Harry did die. But since Harry was Voldemort’s horcrux, I figured that since Harry wasn’t an item and is a human, Harry and Voldemort shared the horcrux. As in Harry also had a horcrux. It was himself or his scar. And both Voldemort and Harry had it as a horcrux. So when Harry died, it was both Harry’s and Voldemort’s extra life that was made through the horcrux that was destroyed.

No, the Voldybaby in Kings Cross is the piece that was in Harry. Dumbledore explains that. There were still two other live pieces of Voldemort's soul when you include Nigini. Harry had to actually die to kill the piece of Voldemort's soul within him. That is fully explained by Dumbledore. However, Harry could choose to either go on and continue being dead or return to life because he had just held the resurrection stone. That is what gives him the power to choose, which Dumbledore also set up.

A problem with this theory is that Dumbledore explicitly states that Voldemort failed to kill Harry, that Harry is not dead. I always figured he was halfway between life and death, and that was why he cast sacrificial protection that was less powerful than his mother's. Voldemort even state's that Harry didn't die, and Harry basically agrees with him.

I mean, I really want to see an epilogue to the recent "What If" but now I want to see a "What If Harry didn't get to the graveyard in The Goblet of Fire?" Just like he said, maybe he's just told to immediately quit at the start of each task or something like that. If not that, well what if Harry just ended up not going to the graveyard? How would Voldemort proceed from that point?

Ahhh thank you! I have been saying for years that Harry was the master of death at that point! I also think that the reason he could come back was because he was master of death, that being master of death doesn't mean you conquer death but rather have the option to choose it (which is why Harry having the option to choose in kings cross is so special and rare). If being master of death didn't actually do anything then why would Dumbledore bother to leave clues in his will for the trio to find the hallows, it was all part of his big plan for Harry to choose to die and be able to come back. Dumbledore was even preparing him for this back in book 2 when he says to Harry 'it is not our abilities that show who we truly are, it is our choices' 🤯

Ok, I might be overthinking this a little bit, but I just got to a conclussion that I'm not sure how fits in Dumbledore's plan -You always talk about how the Lovecruxe anchors Harry to life, but it seems to me that, when Voldemort dies, that Lovecruxe doesn't exist anymore because Lilly's protection doesn't live in Voldemort. -It also feels like the only reason Voldemort doesn't die in the Forbidden Forest is because he still has a horrocruxe. If not for that, he would have died there. So, let's imagine Harry fulfills Dumbledore's plan and destroy all the Horrocruxes before meeting Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest. When Voldemort attacks him, would both had died? Like, Voldemort would have been destroying his last Horrocrux, and, with his death, the Lovecruxe would be destroyed too and Harry wouldn't be anchored to life. So none of them would be able to come back. Is this right? What do you think? Did Harry only lived because he hadn't fulfill what Dumbledore told him to do?

There's a theory that I think would be a good explanation as to why he didn't really die. It goes something like "Avada Kedavra" is a curse that rips the soul from the body, where the body is left as a hollow shell on its own. As Harry was a horcrux, having part of Voldemort's soul inside him with his own soul still present, due to his mother's sacrificial protection, his soul was shielded from the curse, instead ripping out the Voldemort soul from his body instead.

I am currious how you mention in that relm you say it is showing voldemort's body. What about in the first movie when he drank the unicorn blood and was subject to "a half life/a cursed life" if that is coming into play.

I’ve never understood the concept of sacrificial love. Cause when Lily does it for Harry, it is active till he turns 17. This was also something debated on the Alohomora podcast. Would the protection have been just as powerful if Voldemort had attacked the Potters when Harry was say 10? And why is it that when Lily sacrifices herself for Harry, the protection is active only till he turns 17, but when Harry sacrifices himself for Hogwarts, everyone including adults are protected from Voldemort?

Besides Voldemort giving Harry the opportunity to _choose_ death or not, which is the activator of sacrificial love, I'd also like to bring up remorse Hermione said, when she discovered about horcruxes, that there is only one way to reunite a person's rent soul: remorse. Remorse for all the murders he committed. Harry said, "I've seen what you'll become." does that mean when Voldemort's horcruxes have been destroyed? Or is that the form his soul pieces take and the rest of him-the two left-will join the rest and share limbo or purgatory or in between world he's in? Harry does tell Riddle the remedy of remorse. I hope Riddle remembers it to start working on his return to wholeness. Maybe he'll learn a bit of love in the process. That in a way Harry loved even Voldemort by offering him the remedy. Even a relationship of such giving is a form of love. It's love thy neighbor. Voldemort rejected it, fired at Harry, and Harry defended himself. Even so, a gift of love is never wasted.

Could you do a theory, if harry really is the master of the elder wand. Because it looks to me that Draco should still be the master. Harry was never in the presence of the elder wand when he disarms Draco. The hawthorn wand gets disarmed and that wand should change team to Potter. But the elder wand is still in a tomb in Hogwarts. If you have 2 wands and 1 gets disarmed, will the other change team too?

I don't understand the last part of the video about giving Hogwarts protectors the protection by dying for them, same as his mother did for Harry. I thought it was a "love" sacrifice that gave him magical protection. I'm a little confused at that part. He certainly didn't love everyone at Hogwarts, did he?

I’m actual of the belief that harry didn’t master the stone the stone was made by death to tempt mortals into killing them selves to be reunited with their loved ones, which is exactly what happens. I think to master the stone you have to use it and know that it’s empty and that you’ll meet them when you die a natural death, harry let Voldemort kill him because that was the only way to defeat him and he was able to do because of the encouragement from his dead loved ones. Even if death didn’t make the hallows and the brothers were just very powerful, this applies as all the hallows have an issue, the elder wand tempts all those hungry for power to kill you, the stone drives you to death, and the invisibility cloak forced the creator into hiding for the rest of his life it took multiple generations for the cloak to become myth to stop people looking for it, as presumably the hiding part of the three brothers tale has to have some truth to it so who was the third brother hiding from if not death. Anyway that was just a rant which doesn’t have much to do with the video mostly just saying harry is not master of death.

(without watching) Well... as he went to face Voldemort, he was the owner of all 3 Deathly Hallows supposedly making him the 'Master of Death' so I would say no... Also that 'Kings Cross Station' was Limbo, neither the land of the Living or the land of the Dead, and instead of going to the latter, he went back to the land og the Living.
@sofaking6961

I'm pretty sure even if Harry didn't have the other two hallows, that just the invisibility cloak is the hallow that saves him. Since the owner of the cloak is the only one that can pass it on so that he can then welcome death as an old friend.

Loved the deep dive. I think if Harry had attacked in the forest and Voldemort's wand had backfired, it would have ripped his soul from the body constructed using Harry's blood- removing Harry's tether to life. I wonder if Harry did seemingly kill him like he does in the great hall how the death eaters would have reacted? Tom Riddle dropping a mundane death to the boy he begged them all to find so he could fight one on one would be great!

I do think the spectrums of Harry's family should have been with him all the way up to avada kedavra it would have made it more emotional and dynamic for the enemies to not be able to see with Harry could see

I always took it as Harry ends up in limbo because Avada Kedavra worked but Harry doesn't technically die because the soul of Voldemort takes the brunt of the attack. That said, like how Harry loses the piece of Voldemort, Voldemort loses the piece of Harry that he took from his blood. Which is why both ended up in Limbo but neither actually died from that attack. Which is also why the wand doesn't respond to Voldemort, because they no longer share any connections.

ive got a question you guys might ponder, could Voldemort have even mended his soul if he WANTED to after the first piece was destroyed? it takes feeling remorse to put the pieces back together, but even if he felt remorse when harry gave him the last chance was there anything left to be mended or was he out of luck from the moment the first one was destroyed?

The Cloak *was* present at the moment in the clearing. Harry isn't wearing it, but he has it tucked under his robes. I've always thought that in the forest Voldemort kills the only part of Harry he can actually kill: the horcrux he never wanted to make. So he kills the horcrux, and without Lily's protection he would have kill the whole Harry too. But Harry, being the master of the death (and the wand) and being still protected by Lily (thanks Voldy for always making the best plans), and without the horcrux part that's being destroyed, has a choice: in this limbo, he can choose the ultimate death or he can go back to life, and he bravely choose life, despite all he has ensured and all the fighting still ahead of him.
