I feel like an Asylum of a Doctor Who Monster would fit much better as a Cyberman Story than a Dalek one. It could *really* lean into the Horror Aspects, and the weird head-stalk things already had a cyber-counter part on Pete's World with the Ear Pieces, plus it'd mean that Clara's failed conversion would make sense, since the Daleks have literally never converted humans into Daleks (unless you count Satellite 5), but it's literally the Cybermen's whole thing.

Jesus CHRIST that's an amazing idea! It seems obvious now someone else has come up with it!
@DrKnockers05
@DrKnockers05 2 года назад
Honestly, I'd be totally here for an Asylum of the Cybermen kind of episode. Anything that really digs into the horror aspects of them, physically, mentally, or emotionally, always makes for a dark and creepy story. That being said, the Daleks have converted humans in the last too, obviously on Satellite 5 like you said, but also in a Sixth Doctor episode 'Revelation of the Daleks', and possibly some Big Finish stories. So while I agree an Asylum episode would've suited the Cybermen more, I still think the idea of Dalek conversion is just as terrifying.
@GreekHouseEffect
@GreekHouseEffect 2 года назад
Yeah and the idea that they would like to destroy the crazy ones would fit the emotionless Cybermen in comparison to the already pretty crazy Daleks
@dexterhill5843
@dexterhill5843 2 года назад
I've also thought it would make so much more sense as a Cybermen story! It doesn't even need to be a Dalek story and yeah everything about it screams of established traits of the Cybermen! Question is how did Moffat not see that? Could also have then linked to Nightmare in Silver later in the second half of the series somehow
@alanbeaumont4848
@alanbeaumont4848 2 года назад
It's a nice solid 8 for me. The reason the Daleks want the Asylum blown up is that they've lost control of their super secure technology and that something definitely not Dalek is surviving down there and might get millions of Daleks under their control. And it occurred to me that if the Doctor fails they get to see him die as a consolation prize. But mostly I like it because it is a comedy horror and a great romp.

I think they actually said the reason why the daleks wanted the asylum destroyed, although it was left a little vague. See for me it's such a kick in the balls we go from having a strong Dalek continuity in the RTD Era. Then in the moffat Era it starts off well, with the idea of 5 surviving paradigm Daleks. Then this episode airs and there's just hundreds of bronze daleks, like where were they during the past episodes, also they used to say 1 dalek could end the universe, then here there's hundreds that just sit there.

That’s my biggest problem with Moffat’s era, but I can’t help but feel the reason the Dalek stories were so underwhelming after Victory (with the exception of Into The Dalek) is because of the backlash to the Paradigm Daleks Maybe after the negative reaction, Moffat felt hesitant to get ambitious with them as RTD did, so he reduced them to goons that were just there…and that alone is a problem since RTD’s last story of them had them attempt to destroy all of reality Why aren’t they doing something equally devastating now since there’s a whole damn empire of them now?

Some people complain that most doctor who reviews praise RTD but bash on Moffat. The excuse is that some of the episodes are really good as standalone pieces. And there is my answer as to why Moffat episodes suck so much. Even if the episode is passable just knowing that it is tied to other episodes that suck makes it suck a little more. It doesn't ruin them but it is the difference between a 7/10 and a 5/10 in my opinion. Just knowing the spectacular finales that the episodes in RTD era were building toward elevates them. Knowing that Moffat episodes are building toward Clara and Danny Pink make me hate them.
@Limes_not_Lemons
@Limes_not_Lemons Год назад
I don't mind the episode, perfectly passable. The only change I'd make is substituting the Daleks for Cybermen. All the weird nitpicks I can think of are totally solved or are less canon/characterisation breaking with that change. The "nano cloud" works better as a Cyberman thing as they are literally known for converting people. Oswin being a rogue cyberman stuck in the asylum that's accidentally allowed to tap into the cybermens network makes more sense than a human turned dalek shut away and chained up being able to broadcast signals and erase dalek databases. Also an asylum for cybermen who either had faulty conversions or broken inhibitor chips that didn't kill them but drove them to insanity. The cybermen converting the dead is a thing in season 8 so the converted skeletons makes sense there too. This being a cyber story rather than a dalek story makes more sense in every way
@LordDaret

It would also be very interesting to justify why those theoretical cybermen were not modified or repurposed. Too valuable to be destroyed and yet too dangerous to be hooked up to the main network.

It's a good day when a Doctor Who episode - particularly a Matt Smith one - scrapes a 5 from Harry! Escaping the bottomless pit of 4/10 but just barely! To be honest, this is one of my favourite episodes. The ending twist gets me every time. Every time I see this I find myself just hoping that somehow Oswin won't be a Dalek. But every time, she is. Something about the doctor entering the room and seeing Oswin as a Dalek... and the moment Oswin herself realising she has been turned into a Dalek.... damn. Gets me every time. Mixed bag indeed, I think a 5 is appropriate. Good ideas but some poor executions and lines that actually mean it makes no sense. For example I like the stylistic choice of the viewer seeing her as she sees and hears herself but then... yeah how do they hear her like a human? Would the Daleks have a parliament? As if they are a fucking democracy?? Already have an emperor and supreme as established so where do they fit in? Where did they even come from? Last time we saw them there were 5 new paradigm ones and all the bronze ones had been wiped out PLUS Victory established they won't mix with the bronze ones as they are 'inferior' SO WTF MOFFAT U R FORGETTING YOUR OWN CANON AT THIS POINT. Oh and as for Amy and Rory's marriage... who cares? Do you? They resolve it somehow anyway so what was even the point? Did it really add anything or need to be in there? Same with the human Dalek concept I just don't think it works or was necessary and detracts from the really cool premise of an asylum we could be exploring so its a great shame there's just too many things that don't get explained or don't make sense and contradict previous events

- I think a lot of fans out there can do a better job at producing quality content. I’ve seen some brilliant fan stuff. I know I’ve sat here in my room and came up some pretty raw and gripping ideas. Even some of the Big Finish writers have done a marvellous job. The main show is consistently written horribly. The show should’ve been darker and more emotive. Not turned into a laughing stock with horrible writing and mediocre acting and bad production. Over the years the show has been executed so poorly, even more so as the years trail by. This show has lost so much potential over the years and been just drawn out so offensively. At this point, I believe it should just be put out of it’s misery and euthanised.

To me, this episode was greater than the sum of its parts. Great nitpicking though, broseph, you should make a career out of it.

Seriously, Harry? I always have a great time watching this episode, although I absolutely accept it’s not perfect. Then somebody comes along with a well-reasoned objective commentary and gives it a five out of ten! I’m unsubscribing. I’ve decided I don’t like hearing opinions that aren’t my own.

I get the joke, but I think the majority of people agree with him that this episode was pretty bad overall. The main reason of complaints is that a lot of the things he said were just incorrect, as in, the episode clearly explains it and yet he somehow missed it all. Which I guess proves his point on how forgettable this episode was for him.

Amy: I didn't kick you out... I gave you up. Hanna: *BULLSHIT!!!!* 😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬 (Amy and Rory instantly paused their argument and whirl around to look at Hanna) Rory: Hanna??? Hanna: That is *ABSOLUTE* bullshit!!!! Of course he loves you more! He waited 2,000 years outside a box for you! And... (She marches forward towards them and stands in between them. Rory behind her and Amy infront of her. She tackles Amy and strikes her down to the ground. Knocking her away from Rory and coming to his aid. She then gets right into her face and snarls) ...Don't you dare say that it doesn't matter *BECAUSE IT DOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!* 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 (Amy froze. She looks at Hanna in surprise. Caught by her attention. Hanna continues with a snarl.) Hanna: He was awake and conscious the entire time but for you, it was passed in a blink of an eye! He has loved you unconditionally, pretty much for as long as you can remember him. But all you *EVER* did to him was treat him like a spare part! You were marrying him and yet on your wedding night, you *NEVERED* not even one single moment had told him that you loved him! You were not capable of waiting for *40 years* for him and yes, I know that you were aging but so what! You *knew* that it would've been Rory who would've to come for you and yet, you couldn't! (Amy gets herself back up and retorts her) Amy: I don't remember any of that. It didn't happen for me! (Hanna gives her a *REALLY* hard shove and comes back at her with a snarl) Hanna: But still, it *HAPPENED* for him!!!! Did he ever tell you what he said when he found the older version of you?? HUH???????? (She looks over her shoulder at Rory for a moment and turns back to Amy) Hanna: *NO!!* OF COURSE HE DIDN'T!!! He'd want to spare your feelings but quite frankly, I do *NOT* give a toss about your feelings! He told you that you growing old did *NOT* mean anything to him! He told you that all he cared about when seeing you old is that you hadn't been able to grow old together! So how in all the damn universe could you *EVER* think that he would have thought of you any differently just because you can't have kids?! Have you never heard of "adoption" and did he ever tell you what he said that he can remember it??? That he remembers *EVERY* second of sitting outside of *THAT* box! He didn't have to do it! You would've been perfectly safe on your own, but he waited anyway. Because *YOU* 👈 were *EVER* so slightly more safe with him there! He single-handedly, dragged the Pandorica out of a burning building! He was made of _plastic_ and he walked _through the fire_ for you! And honestly, I cannot see why. He deserves someone who loves and appreciates him, but he settles with just needed by you! As long as you need him around, *HE. IS. HAPPY.* And yet somehow, (She inches closer into her face and screams at the top of her lungs) *YOU'RE TOO HIGH AND MIGHTY TO SEE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 (Hanna clenches both her fists and inhales a REALLY deep breath just as she was about to scream more at her but pauses as Rory clips the nanoblocker around her left wrist. Hanna whirls around and stares at both him and the nanoblocker on her wrist before turning back to meet Amy's gaze. Amy doesn't say anything. Hanna looks straight into her eyes and says some final words to her. She says it in a low, stern, voice.) Hanna: It needed to be said. And you *needed* to hear it. (Amy looks at her still silent. Hanna gives her one last "death glare" before turning away from the both of them and walks far to the side of the teleport pad with her face buried in her hands) THE END.

@@elliottsheedy967 I'm glad you asked. Hanna is a character I found from a fanfic called *Lost Through Time* and she goes on the adventures with the Doctor and his companions. Also to say, she's a fanfic fan girl that gets taken away from our world (the real world) and is brought into the Whoniverse. Kapiche?

Normally you do a pretty good goid job, but somehow you missed a LOT on this episode. to name a few …. The tragedy is that Oswin WAS a human and is NOW a Dalek and their is nothing the Dr can do about it. So you missed the whole point. This is why they need the protection of the wrist band. As for the divorce papers. Rory is SIGNING them and returning the. to Amy. Because Amy filed for divorce. Rory is just agree to it. So somehow the two biggest points of the episode you completely missed. You used to be better then this, what happened? You seam to only he half watching and then writing your script based on you preconceived opinion to support you rating
