DID IT SUCK? - Doctor Who [Mummy On The Orient Express Review] 

I liked that queen rendition, it was a running gag in doctor who that in the future the businesses running things will often make historical errors when they make a recreation of the past just like what we do today with vikings horns and other historical mistakes.

I think 'Don't stop me now' is chosen because the lyrics relate to Clara. Despite her claiming that she wants out, it's very clear throughout the episode that she really isn't ready to stop travelling with the Doctor and has become almost addicted to the lifestyle. In that regard a more melancholy version of 'Don't stop me now' is very appropriate.

9:10 Though Clara isn't my favorite companion either this rant seems a bit out of place and illogical. At this point you are being "angry" over an actress suggesting boring plot or something? I mean it seems to me fine that her character would want just a trip without having to risk lives.

I don't understand your point with the whole clara "being ridiculous for wanting a calm night for her last trip." It's a show, it's its own world. You can't say "It can't just be calm, because it's doctor who that would be boring!" We all know that! But for Clara, in the context of the show, this was supposed to be her goodbye trip with the doctor, and he couldn't resist the urge of this nonsense to give her a proper goodbye. She's mad because he's shown to care more about his adventures than his companion in that clip. She's not mad that they ran into trouble. She's made that he took her there, KNOWING there would be trouble, and didn't even so much as warn her.

If Clara was not in this episode, I think the plot would not change, but aside from Clara, I really like this story.

"It Had to be You" was written in the 1920s. It's a much-performed classic.

You could explain the trains turning because space curves due to gravity. This means it is more direct to go from A to B swerving than flying "straight". You can relate this to how we see straight lines on 2D maps and the same line on a globe.

Your reviews really bother me. You focus more on nitpicking things which literally have no importance whatsoever, pointing out that the train snaking when we get an outside shot doesn't make sense is insane, if it was going in a straight line you'd call it out for being too dull looking, and if they didn't show it you'd get on it for not having an exterior shot. You spent more time on insignificant details which don't have any sort of impact on the episode than the actual episode.

Perhaps the train turning is because the lack of gravity means that the train carriages float and wave about partly independently, but the engines keep the carriages from floating up and down.

The train is obviously a sort of cruise, hence the fancy dress and simulation of what would be ancient technology displayed... So of course it is twisting and turning, to give all the passengers a good view of the nubulae and other landmarks in their deep space voyage...

I loved this episode, it was a pure diamond in the steaming pile of turd that was series 8. And I love how it was resolved. Yes, it does involve the so called "superstition" being true, but I think it's logically grounded. A soldier stuck fighting a war that that ended probably thousands of years ago, and to get h to stop you have to surrender, if anything it's a I think it's a great subversion. It felt like doctor who, Perkins was great, the mummy was great, Gus was great, the conductor was great, and Clara got locked in a cupboard. 10/10

I read that the writer Jamie Mathieson revealed, the computer Gus was working for Max Capricorn from the Titanic episode who had survived and would later also be behind the events of Oxygen. But that story ark was scrapped

Mmm... myths aren't exactly the same as superstition. "Myth" just implies where the story originated (from Modern Latin mythus, from Greek mythos "speech, thought, story, myth, anything delivered by word of mouth," of unknown origin). I mean the "myths quite often have basis in reality" trope has been used quite a lot in Dr Who, don't you think?

This could be great doctor-donna episode. I loved Capaldi in this episode, but Clara not so much. Actually, this story had no impact of Clara, but this would be great episode of new companion, who could see what type of person Doctor really is.

Clara wasn't necessary in this episode, but at least she is wearing that dress... I like that dress 😚😌

Well, the whole ship is built for tourists (at least I think so), so the twisting and turning is probably for authenticity.

I think adding Danny was a good choice to give Clara a tether to Earth. I just wish she had friends that weren't the Doctor or Danny. And that her family was a bit more fleshed out apar from the little we got in "The Impossible Girl." I wish that after "The Rings of Akhaten," we got a scene where Clara talks with her dad about her mom. I do wish we got at least one episode traveling with Danny like we did Mickey. I think it would have been interesting to see another military man traveling with the Doctor that wasn't the Brigadier. Danny is the Doctor's foil. They want to protect all life, yet the Doctor seems to have this air of detachment from humanity. Danny does too, but for other reasons. Clara didn't have a life before the Doctor, yet gained one after traveling. She became more like him, too much like him. I think that's why the Hybrid Arc worked for me because Clara's end in "Face the Raven." She became like the Doctor to a fault but also was overreliant on him. That was her folly. When Danny died, she gained the same air of detachment to humanity as the Doctor did. I liked Clara.

I think the ending is fine. The whole point of the train was researching the mummy, so just letting it go on it's merry way wouldn't really make sense. We could have seen the Doctor dropping everyone off, but I like the isolation of this scene. The doctor left more or less alone with his thoughts, and I love his dialogue about there not always being a good way out. If this episode had have ended with Clara leaving, it would have been perfect.

You know what I just realised/don't understand, when people call other people in Dr Who over a mobile phone or the Tardis phone, how do they know when to call them? Is that ever explained? Perkins should have stayed on the Tardis as a minor reoccurring character at least. But imo Clara should have died there and Perkins should have been the new companion.

I wasn't sure about this episode when I first saw it. After two seasons of Chibnall it looks much better.

I hope you will genuinely forgive me for being a pedant, but were you really suggesting "It Had To Be You" was actually written in 2005 for Dr. Who, or did I misunderstand a wisecrack? That song is nearly 100 years old, it's a classic, man! Again, I know it's a nitpick, I'm just a curmudgeonly lady in her late 30s who wants you kids to remember the classic tunes from "olden times". That song is one of the all-time great jazz standards. At 2:00 you state that the train taking longer is never explained, it is. the robot has run this version of the test on multiple trains to make sure the soldier is stopped, and he didnt' expect this train to pass either.

I believe the point of Clara was that her relationship with the Doctor was toxic and unhealthy. She was supposed to be unlikable and self-centered. At least that's how I interpreted it.

This is the episode that really made me want Clara gone. WHAT is she doing with the Doctor? Every other person who traveled with the Doctor more than once was enamored with him to the point where they pretty much left behind jobs and dating. That includes Donna, even though she made it clear that she was not interested in him sexually. If she was SO dang important to Matt Smith's Doctor, why does she even keep a job? Past Doctors would have left her behind. I'm sure that if she had been dating anyone besides Pink (who turns out to be kind of important), she and the Doctor FINALLY would have parted ways. Vastra, although she works with the Doctor, chose to have a relationship on Earth and do her own thing so she DOESN'T travel with the Doctor. I think you can't have it both ways, and at this point, I began to resent every moment that Clara was on screen.

If you set aside your hatred for Clara, she does make good points in this episode. Yes she be a whiny ass in other episodes, but this is supposed to be their farewell. The doc has yet again put her in danger to try and coerce her back into travelling with him. She points out his lack of emotion over people dying and knowingly putting her life in danger because some rando kept bugging him. The pacing is good and the villain is a very good one use baddie. The woman was a bit annoying but she's greiving and knows she could die so I can give her a bit of leeway. The bit on the rocks was a nice little scene to show their relationship, although they're strained, they know each other. The ending was meh but hey you can't.havw it all.

I used to really love Clara. But the people writing for her completely ruined what could've been an awesome character.

Make up your mind man. Do you want to see the drop off scenes or not? In the bank heist episode you didnt want to see the doctor dropping off the side characters but now you complain that you want to see them. I get that you've got to be dry and critical at all times but at least be consistent.

Aaah your critics piss me off on these las seasons, like you just don't want any anecdotics or realism thing, if it isn't serving the plot you just say it's pointless and too much, then you ignore every psychological part of the show.. Which is the whole point of those seasons. Plus if there is Clara then it automatically sucks to you because you think she is just a comic relief, where she is here to show the dangerosity of the doctor and how he is the only one who could live like that, she wants to be him, but it is too much to bear psychologically and emotionally. And those "pointless calls" are useful for the end cuz she love P.E too much to lie but she does for the doctor, and every other sidekicks had those moments.. A lot
