I'd really love to look at it this way, since we all hate Jenny. But the thing is... I don't think it was like that really. I think Jenny wanted to be free, you know, as a bird (tons of references to birds in the movie. Jenny's prayer when she's a kid, freebird, the feather at the end...). And she thought that was joining things, being an artist, going wild, sleeping around. The thing is, what she started to go through, when her body and mind started to collapse, was when she realized Forrest was right all along. She told him he didn't know what love was. And here I think the same that you. SHE didn't know what love wss, but she didn't know that then. When she says "You don't wanna marry me", it's not because she doesn't. It's because she thinks she does not deserve him. Why would this celebrity, amazing war hero want to marry her, ajunkie in rehab. Why would she deserve love. When she finally got to forgive herself, for all that she did to herself and others, it was the moment where she could finally approach him again. Her kid made her realize how lucky she was. She had a kid from a man that loved her every single moment of his life. She wanted to finally make things right, but it was kind of late. That's life, it just sucks, but it happens. And we love to see the beauty in all that tragedy.

Jenny loved Forrest without any question whatsoever. Think of all the time they spent together and how Forrest was always the most important man in her life. Jenny wasn't where he sent her the letters. They got returned to him because she couldn't be found. She doesn't believe she's good enough for Forrest.

Something to note is that there are movies where the female leads are toxic but were victims of some type of abuse, yet still a bit empathetic (instead of sympathetic, keep that in mind....). This however doesn't change their actions and has us (the audience) continuously asking why the male leads can't see that they're a lost cause and just leave them. Two movies that do this right, are Of Human Bondage (1934) and Casino (1995). In Of Human Bondage, the character Mildred (Bette Davis) is established as quite a jerk towards our main character Philip. Who despite trying to show her kindness, Mildred states that she plans to marry much more wealthier men, therefore Philip is wrong for having feelings for her, only for her relationships to all go south as the men she chooses are either abusive, conniving, liars who even were already married, establishing how she doesn't have trust in actual people who are much more lower class like Philip and why she chooses the wealthier ones. But this only leads makes her to grow more and more cruel and manipulative, as we watch as Philip sacrifices everything to help her. This leads to us (the audience) groaning at the screen saying, "Philip, she not worth it!". But the movie knows this. Therefore, watching him near the end finally leave her is pretty satisfying, seeing how he finally has opening his eyes to who Mildred is. Same case for Casino (1995), which ironically came out a year after Forrest Gump. Ginger (Sharon Stone) is a street-smart hustler at several Vegas casinos. She's has grace, wit, beauty, and could have been having a successful life (despite her crooked ways), if it wasn't for her abusive pimp Lester, who's been using her at a very young age and continuously takes everything she earns. But Sam "Ace" Rothstein was so in love with her that he felt the need to help her, therefore gave her everything she wanted, but it was never enough for Ginger. Heck, Ace even proposes to her after knowing her for only a few months, and despite Ginger pleading to Ace that he really shouldn’t and how he doesn't know her or what love even is, they still marry. But again, this isn't framed as a huge “happily ever after”, but how Ginger would lead to Ace's downfall. Although it's established that he's no better, due to him being a long time gangster with several mob ties and is quite a ruthless dude himself. Which I guess is the major difference between him and characters like Forrest and Philip. But in any event, unlike in Forrest Gump (1994), rather than being framed as someone who'll save the woman they love from their toxic and abusive life, Casino and Of Human Bondage frame their male leads as complete fools (And a bit of a simp...) who are letting women, who are nothing but bad news, lead them to collapse. And the women who had live a bad life will never change for the bad deeds they've done, despite we (the audience) understand why they ended up that way. With them even meeting a horrible fate.

@osmanyousif7849
@osmanyousif7849 8 месяцев назад
@@eatcereal1294 , no. But as someone who's seen a lot of film and tv, creators need to stop using abuse (whether it's domestic, spousal, or child... ) as: 1. A plot device 2. A way to downplay someone's immoral behavior or make said behavior and actions seem less self-serving, when they are in actuality aren't I've seen this way too much when reading or watching something on TV. I'm not meaning to say that no form of media should portray any form of abuse. However, I'm saying that if someone's going to portray something like this, especially for people to watch, they have the responsibility of doing so in a nuance and mature way by showing the true impact that such trauma like this can have on a person, but if the person (even if they were abused) do something very wrong, then it should be seen as wrong and see to it that they have two options, either addressing their issue and changing, or continue in their ways only for them to go down a darker path, as well as have the people around them see to it that they make that choice, or they will have to cut them from their life for their own good, before they end up becoming enablers. Something that the creators of Forrest Gump, really failed to do. It seems as if they wanted to use what happened to Jenny as a way to sympathize with her, even when she does some immoral things especially come the the last 35 minutes of the movie, when she returns, rejects Forrest's proposal, has sex with him, leaves him, then after over 3 years calls him back to tell him to see her, only to reveal that she's got a child and that she's got AIDS/HIV which may kill her sooner or later, and then deciding to marry him, yet still ends up dead leaving her child in Forrest's care. When you put that all together, her actions feel extremely self serving, especially consider how Mildred (Of Human Bondage) and Ginger (Casino) do similar actions that are self serving, yet knows this. But this isn't the same with Jenny. Not only do the creators play every moment between Forrest and Jenny as romantic, passionate and endearing, but even if you think that the third act of the movie shows a new Jenny finally embracing Forrest’s love and choosing to marry him and learned from her mistakes, this is utterly completely voided by the inclusion of her illness. It really negates, even ruins, any notion that her choice to finally be with Forrest as finally seeing that he does love her. Conversely, if the movie decided to have Jenny not go back to Forrest yet in the last 35 minutes, but decided to clean her act up first and try and make an honest living before then making the choice to call Forrest, probably to just see how he’s doing first, but Forrest immediately decides to go see her, and then accepting his proposal, it would have been a bit more smoother and feel less contrived.

I guess from a Christain perspective, Forrest's love is in the sense what 1 Corinthians 13 says. He never loved her because she was beautiful or that she had something he needed. He loved her because all those years he saw the girl that was first kind to him. He never saw it as pity, he was just greatful for the friend he had and was always willing to support and be there for her. Jenny on the other hand didn't really understand Forrest's love, she thought love was what her father gave her so she seeked out more abuse. When she finally realized what she wanted was right in front of her it was too late. However, Forrest didn't care that it was too late, he just wanted to take care of the woman he loves. Forrest never obsessed over her nor did her persue her. He just lived his life and was there for her when she needed him. The only time he thought about running after her he ran litteraly every where else in America. The love mentioned in 1 Corinthians 13 is agape, God's devine love. Agape is the love Christians are to give, even for those that don't diserve it. Is it easy? Absolutley not. Because it requires us to give and not expect anything in return. Our own selfishness makes us desire more or to be appreicated. However, in order to truly appreciate love when it is given to us we must first know the cost of what it truly means to love someone else.
@wilmergimenez
@wilmergimenez Год назад
My opinion is she married him out of selfishness when she was young and have all her life in front of her she never even considered sharing her life with Forrest she just followed her heart (and other parts of her body I'm not going to mention because I'm a gentleman) and her heart was with the classic bad boys she wanted to live fast and wild, but the party is over she is already old and sick knowing she doesn't have much time now she wants to experiment love and commitment she wanted her fairy tale ending marrying in a white dress to a man who love her but if she weren't sick and already middle age she for sure will still be partying and using drugs and sleeping with bad guys and never considering Forrest as a possible love interest. A proof of this is that we really don't see romantic love in their interactions even in the wedding, there is a certain coldness in every moment, definitely not passion they are getting married and Jenny is acting like they are already an old couple tired of each other there are intimacy in their gesture but is cold something product of the routine no passion Jenny is the modern woman who only want the bad guy because she finds them more interesting and exciting and the romantic guy who really love her, well, she doesn't have eyes for him until her options starting to getting short, and she is not attracting the same kind of dude she attracted in her prime, is then she starts to care for things like love and romance she want that out of selfishness not because she loves the guy, the party is over what she really wanted cant have it anymore, so she settles

They way I would answer the question would be to swap roles... Jenny is a mentally challenge girl who goes on to do and experience wonderful things with her life, while Forrest comes from an abusive home and goes on to mostly be a disaster. Oh... can we see how that would look on film? 1. Forrest would be the perv for hanging around a mentally challenged girl. 2. Forrest would be an unsympathetic AH for not making anything of himself, the drugs, partying, useless sex, humiliating Jenny by being with other women around her, etc., etc. 3. No one would think Forest was kind for showing up around Jenny every few years to admire her accomplishments while his life was a mess. 4. Forrest would be crucified for (a) having sex with Jenny, (b) not using protection, (c) risking STDs, (d) having a baby with her, and (e) then taking the baby away to raise her on his own without her being able to see him. 5. No one would feel good for Jenny when Forrest returned with the child, married her, and then left her to raise him because he knew he was going to die from HIV. Finally... 6... No one would think Forrest loved Jenny. They would think him one of the most vile SOB in existence. No one would feel Jenny was lucky to have had Forrest in her life, have the honor of having his child, or having to raise him only because Forrest was dying and had no choice.

@watitduful
@watitduful 7 месяцев назад
@@JOHNNYCHICAGO8 Thanks for the props and same to you. I don't believe the kid was his either especially thinking about the time windows. See, she knew that while Forest was liked and loved by many, she still could slither her way in as he, to some degree, didn't have someone to truly advocate for him in this sense. If he were my brother or friend, I would've been on Jenny's ass and outright questioned her intentions. I also would've insisted on a paternity test before moving forward. And thats for obvious reasons given that Forest lacked the ability to discern the trickery and treachery of a person like Jenny. He only wanted to see the good in her and thought that because they shared a history that this would mean to Jenny what it meant to him. Jenny lived a life where she was all about herself and Forest never made sense to her. The righteous don't make sense to the wicked and vice versa. That's why Jenny was more forthcoming with the type of men she chose to deal with. The fact that she would do that to Forest all the while knowing that she and Forest would naturally lack congruence is evidence that she knew what she was doing and did it audaciously. Thats what makes her a bad and evil person. Her past at this rate is just used by some as a buffer and excuse to justify her mentality and behavior. One of the ultimate tragedies is that while Forest had many accomplishments and great experiences in his life, he truly lost out and had his time robbed in the department of love and companionship. If he had all those other experiences, one can't tell me that he didn't have other potential love interests. Tats why the film didn't show any potential love interests in order to subtly highlight him being too focused on Jenny's trifling behind. And they gave a clue in about Jenny hence her still living life and screwing around while Forest was in the proverbial waiting room. Thats scary. He literally put that on hold for a woman who could care less about him and his heart. Thats the tragedy and also highlights a great lesson. The time we squander can never ever be taken back. Thats why they shaped the end part of the film the way they did when Jenny actually came through. He couldn't even get the true desire from Jenny, he was only left with a woman using and tolerating him. He waited that long for that smh. Again, thats the tragedy. Truthfully, given my view of that aspect, the ending part actually is truly scary to me as I would never want to end up like that.

@timreeves8937

I agree with you until the end. LOL. The entire movies theme was Forrest loved two messed up people unconditionally and they had to recognize and appreciate it. (See Lt. Dan). But Jenny only loved him like Lt. Dan, as a good friend. And that was only at the end. Lt. Dan of course came around much earlier, but recognizing a good friend is easier than romantic love. I do not think he was ever important to her until her life collapsed and she came to live with him, because she knew HE loved HER. She literally had no one else. That is what was so sad and pathetic about her choices. She needed someone to take care of her, and Forrest was it. I think those scene show her "trying" to get that romantic love feeling for a friend zoned guy, and it just was not happening for her. Until Forrest, in the first intelligent thing he did, finally called her out on it. SO she knew she was taking advantage of his affections so bit the bullet and they did it. But right after she was revolted, knew she did it out of pity and ran away. I agree with you probably never to see him again because of the guilt. The best thing you can say here is Jenny did "love" him since she did feel bad. An evil women would have played Forrest for money and leeched off him and took advantage of finally sleeping with him. But only when dying and knowing Forrest was rich and could care for her kid did she contact him. And marriage? Why not, she was dying anyway and that would cement Forrest always caring for their kid. The end when she died was her realizing he was the only one that loved her, really. She appreciated that only in death looking back with regret and at that moment did love him for always being there, but it was never man/wife love. It was Lt. Dan love.

Agreed with much of what’s already been said by many here. One thing that comes to mind for me that highlights Jenny’s malevolence is that she knows that she has this incurable disease yet is willing to put Forest’s health in danger for her own selfish gain. And remember, we’re talking this is the era when AIDS and all that hit the scene and the medical advancements we have now were not a thing then. All in all, it’s jacked up that Jenny had a bad upbringing BUT she really turned out to be an awful person. Just even the idea of exploiting someone who’s developmentally disabled alone is terrible. I really didn’t care for her character. Very bad person.

I want to say yes but....I can't help but to doubt it after leaving him for no good reason at all I mean.....I mean she preferred bad boys over a good guy lived to wildly which drove her to suicide tempts and mental beliefs she could fly But the worst things she did was each time Forrest stood up for her she pushes him away she stormed away from him when he saved her from creeps at a club she protected a guy that hits her from Forrest and the worst thing was.....she abandoned him after sleeping with him driving Forrest to run all over the country I mean Forrest may have been sleeping and eating along the way but what if he got mugged or an animal attacked him if anything happened to him it be Jenny And look I know she redeemed herself when she had Forrest's kid but.....Jenny was obviously toxic and Forest's autism made it hard for Forrest to see her other wise And let's be honest I'm sure Forrest's mother didn't approve of Jenny

When jenny runs to forest after he speaks on vietnan its because he is the center of attention from a massive crowd and jenny wants to be famous it has nothing to do with love

It's not just what you say, but how you say it... these constant mini-quotes from other films or commercial clips and memes, sometimes less than a second long, are obviously intended to clarify something that you yourself don't understand - or simply distract from the fact that nothing has become clear to you. It may be that this makes you look like some kind of philosopher on TikTok, but for people whose attention span is longer than 5 minutes (which your video won't reach without the annoying cuts in between), it will be clear that you're trying to get on a bandwagon Jump on the train. In the end you bring the general tenor into the clip that Jenny loved Forrest after all - not without first contradicting this core idea several times. Looks an awful lot like clickbait to me.

One of my guesses would be that perhaps it poses the question as to “who’s the one that has the disability here?” Yes, Forest was developmentally disabled and in a state of being where he could be taken advantage of. However, he had a good heart and was cognizant enough to know right from wrong and what loving someone was truly about. Jenny, on the other hand, as well as some of the other characters such as the Lt., lacked that hence their disability. It was through Forest that they were able to potentially learn about it and get a glimpse of what that looks like.
