Not a prophet. Just honest and willing to look around and point things out as they were. The problem was he was wrong about one thing. He thought this stuff was just happening. It had already happened about 20, 30 years before he he even became a senator. That was his downfall. Ppl were willing to listen but when he wanted to dig into the army they repudiated him. The communists used patriotism against him then ditched it when they had no use for it.

Yeah, let’s go violate people’s freedom of political expression, based on names written on a handkerchief. Yeah, that sounds reasonable. Maybe we should dunk them in a frozen lake until they admit that they read the manifesto once in college?
@raqueljacobs1542

@Johan Liebert the guy was still a monster. It’s not a crime and it’s not un-American to be a communist. Some of the greatest Americans were Socialists, Anarchists, and communists. People who stood up for what they believed in and by doing so, made the standard of living better for people in the United States than any other country on earth at the time. The 40 hour work week, the minimum wage, minimum food standards, social security, and unemployment insurance, all of these things were pioneered by socialist thinkers and pushed to the forefront of American thought through direct action. Un-American my @$$. What makes this country great is that we have plurality of thought and there is no thought police. What McCarthy was doing was trying to criminalize some kinds of thought while normalizing others. Communists are protected by the first amendment, the same as any other religion or political organization. What McCarthy was doing was fundamentally unconstitutional, therefore Un-American.
@raqueljacobs1542
@raqueljacobs1542 2 года назад
@Johan Liebert which is in conflict with the first amendment. I can’t help it if a group of judges don’t have the wherewithal to be able to read and accurately interpret it correctly. An argument based on authority is not a substantial argument. Either I have the right to express how I feel about our political and economic institutions, or I don’t. I wish SCOTUS would make up their mind on that. The original strike for the eight hour work day was held in Chicago in 1886, the Jungle was written by Upton Sinclair in 1905. Social Democrats stole all of their ideas from actual socialists and rebranded them as reformist instead of revolutionary.
@raqueljacobs1542
@raqueljacobs1542 2 года назад
@Johan Liebert the 150,000,000 death toll is a massive exaggeration even by the black book standards. The writers of the black book stretched the numbers up to 100,000,000 but most of the authors denounce even the 100,000,000 number because it’s historically inaccurate. They had to exaggerate the numbers in ways that were academically dishonest like including deaths from natural disasters, counting lower birth rates as casualties, counting people who were deported but didn’t die. They counted people who died in civil wars. They counted all sorts of ridiculous numbers because they weren’t writing history, they were writing anti-communist propaganda. They didn’t think anyone would check their findings and confirm they were true. The funny part about it, is they could have easily written a book that was critical of socialist countries and was true. They chose not to do that. They chose to have an insane death count contest, which makes them look like dishonest fools when people realize they weren’t counting correctly to begin with. There are plenty of honest, factually accurate criticisms you can make about the state of socialist countries today, the problem is that the death count argument isn’t one of them. All countries have death counts, all countries are repressive, all current economic systems are exploitative. The key is to point out how those malignancies can be treated and what is their root cause and do our best to cure them in a way that’s equally respectful to all people.
@raqueljacobs1542
@raqueljacobs1542 2 года назад
@Johan Liebert I never said there weren’t problems with socialist countries. There is a body count, it’s just no where close to 150,000,000. Then if we really compared it other countries or other systems using the same criteria and loose statistical qualifications, I could make any developed nation on earth look worse than communism. If the United States started counting everyone we ever deported or incarcerated as a death statistic, it would make us look really bad, and the truth would be that the majority of people who are deported or incarcerated don’t die as a direct result of that action. As I said, there are plenty of bad things that you can say about existing socialist nations, the death-count argument just doesn’t work because the methods that they used to reach their conclusions were faulty and dishonest. If a genocide was happening or did happen, I would want to know about it, but natural disasters and other non intentional acts don’t qualify as genocides.

@@leifleoden5464 Essentially, it was a document which showed that many many of the claims that McCarthy made about people being Communist informants were true. For example, it proves with near certainty that figures such as Solomon Adler (official in the Treasury Department), Cedric Belfrage (official in the British military after WWII), and T.A. Bisson (political journalist and author) were Soviet sympathizers or spies. The Venona Papers also prove the guilt of Alger Hiss and the Rosenbergs.

They wouldn't believe it. I'm not even talking about culture shock or technological advancement. Like let's say u cab convince them ur a time traveller and they believe u 100%. If u told them the truth about what our world looks like now and even show them they wouldn't believe it. The American family destroyed. Young Men can't afford homes. Young people aren't getting married. Some of them refuse to work. A drug they never heard of killing more Americans than some of the wars they knew of back then. Abortion being promoted as a human right and embraced by mainstream society. Hollywood and the media pushing communism and people gobbling it up and not believing it's communism. You would essentially tell them, ur right. Ur right about everything and this is where we are at now. And they wouldn't believe it. They were right tho. All those black and white videos showing what communism would bring to America. 100% right. They laugh and say oh how dumb and ridiculous they were. But we look at it like holy shit how did they know? Why is there this split? Because the communist looks around in the decade of the 2020s and says "this is great. We're almost there. Just a little more" We look around and are horrified. Because they measure success differently. People dying? Good, from their pov that's success. It's "their" children that are dying, right? If the people they label as fascists are having a bad time then by definition they are succeeding. And look at what they have. They all have welfare and diversity university jobs. Big salaries and social hierarchy with their college degrees and their books. U lost ur job? Ur kids live at home? Ur son overdose on fentanyl? Ur wife cheats on u with a black lover she met on social media? Ur daughter sells herself on only fans and escort sites? That's progress. They want to destroy you and everything and everyone you love. It's a good thing for them. So ur damn right they celebrate. They want u completely gone. And their winning. Ur grandkids will have significantly less than you, unless u somehow acquiesce to their demands and kiss the ring. Then they might let you continue on and maybe even gain more wealth. But it's going to be at the cost of your values and principles. Everything you believe in. And come with the sacrifices of others around you.

@@AppalachianMurican I understand McCarthy’s arguments. I think he’s wrong, but I understand his arguments. The fact that he misrepresents the opposition as part of his shtick means that he probably isn’t comfortable making good faith arguments. If you don’t feel comfortable making a good faith argument on a subject, then you should probably keep your thoughts to yourself. Ronald Reagan was the same way, he would make comments about socialism that would make other people in the room feel embarrassed for him, because he didn’t know enough about the subject he was talking about to sound thoughtful in the words he said. He once said, “ A communist reads Marx and Lenin, an anti-communist understands Marx and Lenin” he never stopped to realize that it was impossible to understand something before you read it. He was proudly declaring his ignorance on a subject while claiming to be authoritative in the same sentence. That’s like saying” I know everything about astrophysics but I’ve never taken calculus”
