Would really enjoy a video where you talk about the kit you're playing here and what you look for in a quality studio kit, Rhys. I know you're a great drummer and a lot of people would appreciate that I think. This mic has been added to my wishlist for sure.
Thanks man! Yeah it’s a pretty cool mic! Like anything, you just have to play around and learn how to get the best out of it! Initially I felt it was a bit dark, but once getting the processing going it shaped up really nice! The 24” Ludwig has some punch! But yeah I thought the kick came out pretty nice in that mix too haha
Chum for the algo. 😁Cool video. I'm just using SD3 for my home recordings - so I don't need a snare mic - but I always learn something from your vids. Love your drumming, Rhys. Great feel and consistency.
Excellent video! I know this mic is mainly for snare drums but I wonder what it would sound like if used on other sources such as on a kick drum or guitar cabinet or even on vocals.
Hey legend!! Another great video! Thank you for sharing such useful content 💪🏻 would you mind listing all the drum mics used for this tracking session ? 🙏
I’m not sure if you’re aware, but there’s some sort of internal limiting inside the mic before it hits the preamp. Sam pura went on a whole Facebook rant about it and it caused a lot of discussion when it first came out.
Actually I hadn’t seen that, I just had to search Facebook to find the post - seems like it all got a little too heated and personal between some parties there… If there is a limiter in the mic, it didn’t stop me pulling a great sound as I demonstrated in this video. I’m just working off how it sounds and I think lauten are a great company - so I’m happy to have one of these in the studio and am about to use it on some session drums today 😄 everyone has different tastes and if they don’t like what they hear, just use something else! So many good mics out there!
Ohhhh maaaaaaaaaaan can't describe so butter sexy sound those drums are! Well done, I am not paying attention to wich mic just hearing that ringy full body snare cracks my brain.. Adding that room snare really shine! If you have that type of sample for sale I would love to try it.. Thanks!
This mix sounds great! I was just wondering how even with the processing off you can still hear the snare bottom as well. How do you achieve this? I am an experienced mixer but I’m new to live drum mic setup. Killer vid!
@@spinlightstudios just bought the lewitt beat kit pro pack. I guess I have to keep trying to get the sound I’m looking for. I’m afraid I might need this. Thanks so much.
Hey Sam, it’s one of my trigger 2 samples - it’s the vintage 70’s acrolite “tight”. A blend of the mono room, overhead and stereo room mic. Added a bit of EQ and saturation. Sounds pretty sweet hey! The pack is on my website if you want to check it out - Spinlight Trigger 2 vol.1

I’m subscribed to Slate/ssl. Otherwise I’ve bought everything else. I bought a bunch of slate stuff before they went sub - but decided it was worthwhile being in the subscription with how much stuff they always add.
@@88omarz the rejection is better, but I just like the tone and how it sounds after mixing it better than the 201. 201 isn’t a bad mic. Just wasn’t really my cup of tea
