Did Lightyear Deserve the Bad Reviews? Pixar Movie Reaction! 

I thought it was enjoyable, not Pixar’s best but an entertaining film. This is one of those films I don’t trust the user reviews because of the review bombing campaign throwing things off

I actually loved this and thought it was pretty mature for a Pixar film. Not one of their best, but not a disaster either. Also, Sox is the best.

Sox is awesome, but my favorite part of the movie was Buzz's character arc. He made a mistake and he feels compelled to fix it, until he realizes that some good came out of it. In regards to what you said about setting up sequels, the director mentioned in an interview that he envisioned this as the first in a trilogy. Unfortunately, the box office results make that seem unlikely. Just out of curiosity, which would you rather have, Sox or Baymax?

I definitely think it did not deserve all the bad press it got. The more times I've watched this movie the more I've enjoyed it. I honestly think this is one of the top 10 pixar films of all time for me, because of the risks it took in it's approach to adapting the character, which I think payed off.

It's kind of hilarious that one of the biggest plot holes in this film is that S.O.X. is too lovable to not have been the most coveted toy rather than Buzz.

People like to hate things just to hate and not for a real reason because it makes them feel superior to a fictional film due to insecurity.

You gotta think, old Buzz already deleted 100s of years of other people's lives, what was a few more. Younger Buzz begins to care for the lives Izzy and the other characters lived, but those weren't even their original lives, only the lives created when Zurg traveled to that present, even in the end of this movie, Buzz can only care about the timeline he's on now, the original one can not ever be recovered, he's still not much different than Zurg Buzz, the only difference is he got to see the affects timeline that would have been deleted, Zurg didn't, but neither of them saw the timeline that Zurg Buzz deleted, so neither of them really care for that. I'm not saying this in any negative way, I just think it's an interesting thought that the only timeline we can really care about is the one we are on now, Zurg Buzz never had a chance to feel he belonged on any timeline anymore, and that's why he was so cold towards it, because to him, that timeline didn't really feel like it existed.

Was it just me or did anyone else see like another streak from another ship when Buzz reached hyperspeed?

Persoanlly, while I liked the supporting characters, Sox especially, the movie just didn't manage to grab me. I thought it felt too much like a generic Sci-Fi movie. Maybe I'd have liked it better if it hadn't been attached to an already existing Pixar IP, but as it stands there's just too much stuff in it that breaks the Buzz Lightyear lore we've learned in previous Toy Story films. Why would toy Buzz say he needs to defeat the "Evil Emperor Zurg" when he's not an emperor in the movie. He's just called Zurg now, B'Zurg to be more exact. Why does toy Buzz look so faithful to the movie while the Zurg toy is molded with a robe rather than visible legs? Why does is Star Command implied to be a law enforcement organization by toy Buzz if it was actually a space exploration organization in the movie? How does a movie Andy would have seen in 1994 or 1995 have visual effects contemporary to the 2020's? Just a lot of little things that don't entirely add up. It would've worked better if they just made it a full-on reboot rather than try to force it to fit into the already established canon, especially with all the changes. As it stands, I didn't think it was a bad movie, but I did find it a bit disappointing. The plus side? I thought all the voice acting was great, including Chris Evans. Also, it's Pixar so of course the animation was going to be fantastic.

It's a shame box didn't enjoy the movie, I thought it was great and was hoping this would bring back or make a new animated lightyear TV show. Maybe if the directors had said this was separate from the toy story series and its own standalone movie it would have been rated differently...

Good god I don’t think till now but people were upset zurg was old buzz but he “Borrowed” it from further in the future from something else which means he might not be the real zurg

Eric I dont know if you'll ever see this but the key reason this movie was hated is because it contradicts the character of Buzz lightyear. In the second toy story movie zerg told Buzz in the elevator he was his father and this movie changed that. Another thing is that we have a buzz lightyear tv show that this movie ignores for its own original story. It is a spin off and thats why people hated it.

After seeing this reaction and another reaction that also called this movie decent, I’ve got to see it for myself

Buzz doesn’t want what everyone from the turnip went through to be erased, but he doesn’t realize that nothing would be erased if he goes along with Zurg’s plan. If changing the past erased things then Zurg should’ve been erased too. Seeing that Zurg is still around, it must be a multiverse thing. So Buzz could’ve helped Zurg and Both he and Buzz could’ve lived peacefully in their separate realities

I thought this was a mostly perfect representation of a late 80s/early 90s not-really-for-kids movie that kids got obsessed with anyway spawning a kiddified animated series and toy line. I mean hell, when I was a kid we had RoboCop and Aliens action figures. Like, talk about age-inappropriate!

I think the main reason the movie flopped was because the movie wasn’t about the Buzz Lightyear people grew up with.

personally it looks fun but once it had Zurg as an evil Buzz and the side characters not being that memerable, I'm waiting to see this for free to get a good idea but it's not sounding great to me. rather watch Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, which i swear this movie took "inspiration" from.

I'll say this, I do not feel that this was the source material that the Buzz Lightyear was based off of that made the toy so popular, to me this feels more like a movie prequel adaption of an in-world cartoon that the Buzz toy was based off of, a good film in and of itself, but maybe not the most faithful adaption ever.

In regards of a 1995 movie having an openly gay couple my headcanon is that the real world of Toy Story is years/decades ahead of ours in social stuff

While not as good as some of PIXAR’s other films, this is NOWHERE near one of the worst movies I’ve seen.

A lot of crap was spread by critics about this movie...many of them sheeple, I think. It's not perfect......having Buzz split off to be two people is never really explained. That plot hole aside, this was a fine little movie....and very entertaining and humorous too.

I feel like this movie would’ve easily been improved if it was a new character unrelated to Buzz Lightyear.

I liked this movie. The tone was different and the animation looked good. Humor wasn’t bad either.

I have seen the toy story films but I've seen this not movie . I disagree with you about the lesbian couple and kiss scene since I think it was a pointless addition and shouldn't be shown in a children's movie.

Lightyear was not bad at all!
