Hey! I came to Mexico from LA in 1986. Never went back. I hear you on the violence, its a bit rough here too. I live in Texcoco, Mexico. I do miss the States but I can handle life here. Thanks for sharing and Good luck!!!
Hola 👋🏼 👋🏼 Some sad memories and many happy memories. ❤️ Great video guys, thanks for sharing. ❤️ We really enjoyed this honestly. Cheers from 2 Canadians 🇨🇦 living in Mexico.🇲🇽🙏🏼
Maybe, could be similar for these kids as it for us Angelenos when the comedian DL Hugley said it best recently saying that you love your city sooo much but it breaks your heart at all the damage it has created.
Happier no but she’s definitely feeling healthier but it’s not because of Chicago but because she’s been working out at a pool and finally feeling better.
Your videos never miss. They explore such interesting questions. I love that you guys let the videos breathe and show so much of the city you’re in. I especially like this because it let me reminisce on my childhood in Chicago. 😢 So many complicated, yet beautiful, memories!
So, so many. And yea, her story is one of many circumstances of people who migrate out of necessity. In her case, she was a young teen and had no say in the matter.
Another great video. 🇲🇽♥️🇲🇽 I so appreciate that you include social, historical and political analysis in your videos. Context, perspective and history matter. Your personal and family history with La Villita remind me of the song by Lila Downs, Nina Pastori and Soledad Pastorutti, La Raíz de mi Tierra. “Busco de dónde vengo que me perdí Busco de dónde vengo y aquí está mi raíz”
As a country of immigrants, many parts of the United States are not friendly towards them. There’s racial profiling and abuse by authorities, hate crimes, and discrimination. Nice to hear Raleigh is a friendly city!
I live in Sauganash in Chicago, raised in Rogers Park. I rarely go La Villita due to the reputation. But I have this dichotomy of feeling pulled towards my Mexican heritage and wanting to move to Pilsen or Brighton Park. But more that I have kids, it's complicated because the schools are so poorly rated in those areas. And I don't like Sauganash because I don't fit in with all the north siders. Anyway, that why I'm exploring Mexico. We can't continue to afford the US.
I completely understand the torn feelings… It’s great to hear you’re considering Mexico, especially if you have the means to continue earning dollars (investments!)
Jobs , long term employment, that will keep you. Many of us picked up skills and enough customers..My mom's parents came in the 1920's after being farmworkers in the southwest. And mi papa came during the 1940's. He learned to be an upholster and made a business
@@mariocisneros911 my mom just married a retired military man she met in Tijuana, that's how we came here, I was 16, grew up in a nasty guetto in Tijuana, it was horrible
Another great video. I also was born and raised in Chicago . I’ve been living In Zihuatanejo Mexico for three year’s now. I had a good life there although I have no desire to return. Saludos… 🇲🇽
True story: my friend and I were walking to Guero's on a Saturday afternoon, broad daylight, busy street and this guy asked me for my number. I was like, "yo, I gotta boyfriend". After a couple of minutes he grabbed my gold chain and cross off my kneck and took off on his bike. When I reported it to the cops they were like, "you should've given him your number". After he saw I didn't find that funny, he asked for a description of the guy. I told him, rat tail, blue long dickie shorts and white tank top...he laughed at me and said, "miss, you just described 50 guys in a two block radius". I never got my chain back. Ni modo. Yeah. To this day I don't wear gold in public in Little Village. 😂
How many times did I just say “omg” while reading your comment!!🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ like I’m laughing with anger at this… 😆😆😒 terrible! What’s worse? The fact that you were robbed and assaulted or that you were victim-blamed by the cops?? Wow!
Este video fue muy interesante. He visitado Chicago varias veces (3-4 veces) pero no sabia que la cultura mexicana alla esta muy arraigada... parece que hay un pequenio mexico alla... con un sabor/apariencia gringa. Un video muy interesante!!
Chicago has been less welcoming this year. The city sued a Texas based bus company which was contracted to provide transport to migrants who’d said they wanted to go to Chicago (Illinois is a sanctuary State.) it’s a mess. When a few Latino activists started making noise about reconquista, educated property owners get nervous. Remember, 1492 has a very different meaning in Spain & in the Islamic world than in the Western hemisphere. the educated are aware of this.
I remember hearing about Texas bussing migrants to Chicago but not about a lawsuit. I just looked it up and I’m seeing reports of the Texas busy company suing the city of Chicago, not the other way around. It seems like they were simply trying to justify their actions, using vulnerable people to make their political statements 😒 All that you bring up is great context for historical events that tie into one another and lead us to where we are today
I like San Diego way better, you can keep your cold weather over there, we got barrios down here of which I was not a part of, I came straight into a gringo suburb
We hear San Diego is super nice, if Chicago had San Diego weather it would be best city in the world. Weather and crime pushed us out but Chicago will always be home.
@@EatBailaTravel yeah, I live downtown San Diego, we have a ton of transplants from Chicago and the East Coast, there is more culture over there but they prefer the weather down here, we have a ton of outdoor stuff to do over here
If we ourselves keep calling and labeling ourselves as immigrants then we have no hope of ever defending ourselves effectively from colonialism. Mexicans/Chicanos are not immigrants. We didnt cross the atlantic ocean like other groups who are not inidgenous to this continent. We are natives of northamerica with the right to migrate anywhere on our own territories
@@AnakNi_Mina What would you call the ytes who colonized parts of africa? Mexicans with a fully decolonized mindset do not honor or identify with the invaders or with any foreign blood
You do know that many people in the US have indigenous lineage. Celebrities such as Tommy Lee Jones, Billy Bob Thorton, Megan Fox, and the late Shannen Doherty for instance.
Loved this video. I can relate so much. Most years we vacation to Mexico and Chicago. I am always asked "Do you feel safe in Mexico?". My response is always that I feel much safer in Mexico than Chicago. Like You, I Love the city of Chicago. The crime and violence breaks my heart. The anxiety is palpable and I always feel "on guard". We need to add Little Village to our list. We usually go to Pilsen and the Mexico Museum of Art and walk 18th. Safe travels!
I shovled snow. For the first time in my life. In Chicago (Waukegan) . You can keep it. Hey, Kevin, can I live at your place for awhile when I move to CDMX? jk. I prefer Centro Historico, reminds me of Chicago, just without the snow.
Actually our lease just ended so it might be available for you! 😆 unfurnished since we moved our stuff out 😝 and I’m with you on the snow… no thanks lol
I'm glad you loved it! We put a lot of thought into these to make them both educational, personal, and enjoyable so it means a lot to hear the format works 🥹❤️🫶🏽
@@EatBailaTravel It shows the work you put into it. I love that you guys are expanding it. I watched it twice in a row. That is how good it was. I didn't want to miss a single part. Chicago has a rich history that you can go into.
We were going to go but ran out of time! We will definitely check it out. We know there’s an association with the Moreno’s liquors and they are very nice family and well love to show some support.
I think about the unfortunate decline of Detroit after the fall automobile industry and loss of many jobs.. that could have been Chicago, too! There were immigrants coming in to Chicago from all over the world but definitely the most significant contributions from a single ethnicity came from Mexicans!
You are correct! We meant to say “one of the coldest” 🥶 and the south Chicago community was definitely a key part of the growth. We chose to focus on Little Village because of our personal ties to it, but I am glad you mentioned south Chicago!
