Dropping Accessories for the Switch 2 would actually be a pretty cool way hype it up! Imagine if they droped the Switch 2 Main Controlers a few months after they droped Switch 2 charging cables and then dropped the Switch 2 Secondary Controllers right before they did the Nintendo Direct to reveal the Switch 2 in late 2024!

Why realese it in October when you can realese it in August?

If you think about it, Nintendo has been futureproofing their controllers since the GameCube, bringing backwards compatibility for the controllers and games in the original Wii, the Wii U outright having backwards compatibility with the Wiimotes and games, and the Switch being a reboot for Nintendo, while having backwards compatibility with the GameCube controllers through the Wii U accessory later on.

Onestly the Nintendo switch doesn’t even need a 2 way charging stand when there is a four way one this is just a waste of money to spend on when your thinking about it. Switch-2 gimmick will be "use any gen1 or gen2 Switch as a second-screen controller". Just like the Wii-U gamepad. Pair up to 4 Switches. This is the best explanation for why they are adding new themed Switch SKUs and accessories so close to the reveal of the Switch-2. Also explains why Zelda WW HD and TP HD haven't been released to switch yet. They want to maintain that second-screen experience that the Wii-U gave for those games. Imagine 4 gen1 switches paired to a tv connected Switch-2 console, for couch co-op games. They all get the second screen experience (compared to with Wii-U you could only have 1 screen gamepad connected).

Right off the bat, this is REAL weird and could totally be a Switch 2 preparation thing. I can’t say it’s not in any stretch of the imagination- this is just too weird so late in the Switch’s life that it could indeed be a hint. On the other hand, it also lines up too perfectly with the release of Super Mario Party Jamboree. They release the charger for detached Joy-Cons the same day as a new game that has detached Joy-Con functionality as a feature? Another thing to consider- Nintendo also waited five years to add DLC to Mario Kart, when it was their big system seller for HOW long? The entire console’s life pretty much, that should have been like, 1-2 year gap after release, at BEST. And also, let’s not forget another Switch Mario Party- Super, which got full online three years after the game launched. Nintendo sometimes just… does things real late. But back to the first hand that this IS a hint- the obvious counterpoints to both those late add ons aren’t lost on me- Mario Kart built its DLC off the back of Tour. And Mario Party was definitely a testing ground for Mario Party Superstars. So the same could happen here, where this accessory is being made for Switch 2 prep. And if Switch 2 is backwards compatible and doesn’t have rails that fit the OG Joy-Cons, they’d need a charger for them. However, one major thing we’re all forgetting is the Joy-Con Grip Charger, which WAS a charger accessory for Joy-Cons released very early on in the Switch’s life. So a random accessory like this wasn’t needed and this could just be one more accessory they’re foisting on us. At the end of the day, I can’t say either way definitively. There’s reasons this could totally be hinting at Switch 2 stuff and there’s reasons for this being Nintendo just coming out of left field with a random accessory. We just have to wait for the official announcement date to come to know for sure.
