I think people who read the book first didn't like the movie because it didn't go into Emma's life as much. It focused way more on Dex and Emma was the secondary character.
This show is one of the best and so much better than the movie. The acting and the music is incredible. Please stick with it so we can get your reactions.
I've read the book, watched the movie when it came out and now the show. I loved the book, the movie was just okay, and the show was incredible. A lot (probably the majority, actually) of the dialogue from the show is word for word taken from the book. It's one of the most faithful book adaptations that exists. Loving your reactions!
Most of the dialogues come from the book! I was wondering whether to read the book or not, cause i've never read the original and I think that most of heart-breaking scenes in the book aren't like the shows. Now you make me want to buy it, can't wait!!!
For me, the show is far superior to the movie. Something about the actors, the writing and even the soundtrack can elevate a story from good to perfection. It’s a great adaptation to the book and I’ll even go as far as say that there are certain things in the book that I’m glad were changed or completely scrapped from the show.
in the book, Dex thinks that if Emma’s not going to be there and his Mom is gone, then why is he even doing the show. it’s not that Emma’s his only friend, it’s that she’s what’s left that matters so much to him.
I read the book around when it was first published. It broke my heart but I absolutely adored it. Watched the film when it came out with high expectations, but I didnt find myself very connected to the characters and felt like Emma was treated as a secondary character and the focus was more on Dex, it was ok but I didnt love it. The show blew me away, I think I may love the show even more than the book which is really saying something!
On the Dead Poet Society front, I watched it at a very vulnerable moment in my life and it really got me through it. It was just nice watching a movie where teens my age got to be this emotional
PLEASE create a Patr3on page or anything, where we can watch your reactions as FULL episodes watch-alongs. I would gladly subscribe to your channel & support you monthly to watch your full reactions.
I read the book when it was published, never re-read it because it hurt a lot (in a good way, it was so well written), and as far as I remember they did a great job adapting the story. I think it's pretty faithful to the book
Another good review, however the train station scene you said what could you do before mobiles-you still had mobiles but only some adults had them! And even though his mum/dad were rich wouldn't of let him have one or buy one for him in the 80's or early 90's! My dad still has his original brick mobile from Summer of 1985-Motorola 8000X
