Did She-Hulk Succeed? (Full Spoiler Review) 

Did you know that, even though She Hulk is green, the working title for She Hulk was actually Blue Harvest.

As a VFX artist myself, something that's not often reported is that nowadays, film productions do not really have an R & D phase anymore. Before the dawn of VFX, a lot of the front end of the pre-production was dedicated to how they could get effects right, as most of the time they'd be shooting them in-camera, so they had to get it right. Now, because it's so easy to change things in a computer, a good chunk of the R & D phase is removed and pushed into post-production, where they try to fix the issues that side. The trade-off, of course, is that artists can be left to flounder, as the directors, supervisors, producers and clients are all trying to put their two cents in and offer up conflicting opinions on what they want to see. It is not uncommon to go round the houses on a shot for months, to only end up back where you started, as both no-one can agree on what they want, and they just run out of time, which is why some shots can look like really rushed. Obviously, this is just a generalisation. Not every show is like this, but it is common. I maintain they need to dedicate more time to R & D in the pre-production side, and directors and clients need to go on a VFX crash course to better understand how it all works. Sincerely, a very tired VFX artist.

One thing I noticed was the character of She-Hulk, who was a nod to the She-Hulk character in the comics.

I also had a moment of "OH god no, don't let Emil be bad!" But you're right, it looks like Emil had no idea what the meeting was about and was just selling his life coach services.

In the Marvel offices, Lou Ferrigno should have cameo'd as a security guard as he did in both Hulk movies.

I'm thoroughly impressed how much that one man noticed that the other man didn't.

I really enjoyed in episode 6 when Mister Immortal jumped out of the building, alluding to the fact that glass is just frozen air

One of my biggest complaints about this show was that She-Hulk wasn’t muscular enough, she was just tall and green.

She is incredibly strong and above average size but she has zero fighting experience and is pretty slow. The way Daredevil moved around her was exactly the way it should have gone. Then when he tried to make a getaway she used her mini thunderclap to hurt his ears. I loved it personally

never imagined I'd hear Daredevil called a "root rat" but here we are. well done! 😂

I think they put the original intro homage at the beginning of the last episode because she was viewed as out of control at the end of episode 8, aka, Savage She-Hulk.

Captain America Winter Soldier is still my absolute favorite of all the movies

The final episode left me with so many questions regarding the canon of what actually happened in the season.

The finale means that the assembled shows aren't actually documentaries about the making of the film's, they're actually a part of the Marvel multiverse where K.E.V.I.N runs everything.

The thing that really gets me about the ending is that it shows Marvel is clearly aware of their finale problem, the CGI problem as well as the other complaints fans have yet they just play it off as a joke cause they know everyone will just eat up their products regardless.

Subverting my expectations of the blood and typical Marvel endings is awesome, but the idea to replace contrived writing with the absence of a conclusion doesn't make any sense? I loved the fourth wall break, but the idea to supplant it with no resolution is a terrible idea

Powerless started as a sitcom about people living in a world of superheros and having to clean up after them, but quickly became a pop culture reference generator.

When She-Hulk broke out of the series, into Disney+, I really hoped she was going to visit other shows and movies. I hope they do something like that someday.

Didn't Abomination also shield Jen or push her out of the way when Todd went to attack her or something? Right before Hulk smashes in from the ceiling and he attacks Abomination. Plus when Todd was revealed and he stayed hulking out, Blonski was clearly shocked. He was only there as a "seize your own power" thing. He didn't realise he was helping a group who were all against Jen and out to get her. Which is interesting because New Rockstar's noticed that the Wrecking Crew - the other three of them - were in the audience! Even if the other guy left them and, even though I'm sure we all thought he was up to something, you think they would have reached out to him and told him about the event. :/ Very strange.

Tim Roth is 172 cm tall. I know this as I was a double for him in certain shots in To Kill A King while he was out of the country, and had to use the same wardrobe.

Honestly, after Ms Marvel tried so hard to shove a world-ending threat into what SHOULD have been a smaller, lower-stakes story and imo butchered itself in the process, I was really happy to have a show that is totally okay with having low stakes and a chiller vibe.

I loved a lot of the ideas, the casting was great, but the biggest downfall for me was that it didn’t want to commit to its concepts until the last few episodes and the editing was so bland and didn’t compliment any of the comedic elements.

If you think the Intelligencia plot is an attack on the kind of person you are, then it almost definitely is.

Great video! I think the point of having the '80s homage in the finale was twofold: First, after having been working all season long to distance herself from the age-old hulk smash stereotype, in episode 8 she completely lost control (being coerced into doing so), and was now waking up in prison having been reduced to the very iconic rage-fueled uncontrollable stereotype from a different era... she had been reduced to something she wasn't... and Second, to a lesser degree, having such an out-of-nowhere 4th wall break fun homage helps subtly prepare audiences to be able to swallow the upcoming BIG 4th wall break at the end of that final episode. The first one doesn't seem to have any consequences, but it serves to kind of inoculate audiences, get their tolerance built up for the upcoming serving of meta-lunacy.

I have to point out to our Gr8 M8 Cult Leaders, that the reason they chose to play the old, INCREDIBLE HULK remake-intro was due to the fact that in the prior episode, She Hulk had a public, raging outburst from a legit cause. However, to the people in the show, it looked like she was raging because she is “a hulk and that’s what hulks do.” So that’s how the public in the show saw her, a Savage She-Hulk. Keep up Grates coming, M8’s!

To be fair, DD's spatial awareness allows him to predict his opponents movements which is why he's able to keep up with Her

I’m glad this show has its fans but I just couldn’t get onboard with the specific brand of humour. I’ve never been a fan of things like Kimmy Schmidt, Superstore or Girls5eva either.

The intro to the last episode was my favourite part of the whole series haha so cheesy and fun

Think She-Hulk would have been better if they have actually lawyer's as reference for the court cases.

I liked daredevil on this show but I heard/read a lot of people complaining about how he's been disneyfied and already saying they don't have much hope for his show. I think more than disneyfied he's been she-hulkizied. And I think that's ok. It's a she-hulk show. If you pick a she-hulk comic featuring daredevil he won't be frank miller's daredevil. He won't be dealing with karen page's drug addiction. He'll probably be dealing with a light situation. And that's what I loved about seeing matt on this show. I love the netflix show as much as the next guy, but that show was so dark that he was never not being shitted on by the universe, and ideally he won't have time to chill in born again either. So I like seeing him here just chilling. Charlie Cox is so adorable that who can complain about seeing him win a case, having a short and not difficult at all hallway fight, hooking up with a girl and going to a family dinner? I just like seeing my little devil smiling for a change.

I liked that the villains were the people that hated her instead of some random villain with a deeper plan. It's a sitcom. She doesn't need to save the world each season.

This show had it's moments like The Daredevil Episode but this as a whole didn't work for me. I do hope that Skaar leads into World War Hulk.

I think the reason the CGI looked so atrocious in the middle episodes is because she had to wear the massive late 90s NBA press conference style suits, as Maso calls them (or NFL player addressing a DUI suits as Mallory calls them), and they just made her look completely off. But the first episode she's in her office and has a normal suit, she looks great.

I've heard that shows and stuff in regards to CG is that they put more focus into making the CG in the first and last episodes better than the middle sections of the show

Funny thing about your closing comment: The Flash actually ran through the Speed-Force once for so long and far and such powerful velocity that he literally disappeared from DC Comics for a short time, and in that meantime, Marvel Comics was having a race between all its speedsters--Wizz, Quicksilver, etc. and mid-race someone erupted into it out of nowhere like an explosive thunder shock and swept the competition easily without even trying. He came to, dazed, confused, wearing what was left of some red pants and yellow boots, and unsure of what was going on or his name, calling himself "Burried Alien" uncertainly. The judges and other runners congratulated him, as the host asked him how it felt to know he was now the "Fastest man alive"? He responded saying "It feels...right." He soon zoomed himself out of there and was never seen again. He basically spent a few months surviving on the pure energy of the Speed-Forece, and literally broke into another multiverse and back.

Now that Deadpool is coming to the MCU, there's gonna be a scene where Deadpool looks at the camera and makes a sarcastic quip, then it switches cameras and She-Hulk looks at the camera and says, "Who is he talking to?"

"This is my son. He's from Sakaar. I've called him Skaar"

I found the meta moment of pointing out how bad the last episode was, came across as ironic. As if it implies that the creators took advantage of the '4th wall' breaking aspect of the character and used it as an excuse to write something poor. Pointing out how bad something is doesn't automatically make it less bad.

Seems like the reason they used the old Hulk homage was because in the previous episode she finally lost her cool and the world saw her as a "Hulk".

Every single time I hear She-Hulk the little Jess Perkins voice comes giggling in my head. "She-Hulk?!" 😂😂😂 I just can’t get over that whole banter and it's been years since that Do Go On ep. 😆

I liked that someone actually praised Tatiana’s performance for once it always goes unmentioned. She’s genuinely fantastic in this. Perfect casting.

The only thing missing from the ‘I hate this’ thumbnail is red lens flare eyes.

The resolution of the last episode felt a little too deus ex machina for me. I wish that after Kevin, they’d done a rewind and actually showed how Jen solved the issue in a preferable way rather than flashing forward to everything being resolved. Other than that (and the hit/miss CGI) I thought the show was fairly charming and entertaining. Hope they do a season 2.

I think the 70s intro should have been a Saul Goodman-esk commercial for Jen, as she goes out to start her own practice.

1) I think this show was great because it was like my favorite run of the comics for She Hulk. 2) That being said, I am still a movie fan and I keep thinking of the following. --Was it necessary to spend part of Shang Shi's budget to make that Abomination model? Could we not have used that money to give Shang Shi better fights or story? Shang shi was good, but I would rather recycle from the movies than burn the movies for the Disney Plus material. --The 4th wall break was risky for the MCU. But we could explain it with a psychic or something. Like She Hulk's mind is being read the whole series and the 4th wall breaks are a symptom of her realizing her mind is being read (And yes, this is kind a thing in the dream sequence in Captain Marvel and yes, that is the only scene I loved from CM. Knowing myself I am probably gonna take a huge shit on MCU-CM in just a minute, but want to call a good thing a good thing). Anyway.............like if the psychic turned out to be...................the Ring Master from the circus of crime or the LONG OVERDUE The Leader using a mind probe, that would be great. It would be too expensive to make Xemnu or another monster (but who knows how hard it would be to put fur on a CGI Hulk or Groot nowadays. I have expect thye Abomination to just be a recolor of Coal Obsidian from the neck down). --would have been a great opurtunity to take care of plot holes from other MCU movies as gag court cases. Howard the Duck fighting for US citizenship? Maybe reveal the bad Inhumans show IS A SHOW in universe and the reveal Inhumans came to earth to sue? The vision trying for a dramatic lawsuit with the US government for his resurrection and exploitation (and thus explaining why he was gone from Dr Strange 2. A dramatic irony of him trying to rebuild is life while his wife/widow goes insane {and thus rolling the drama forward into future interest rather than letting it die right there)? Maybe a skrull whistle blower leading up to secret invasion? Point there: so much potential in the library of ideas and effects they have. 3) Yeah, Jenn minimizing Bruce's mental suffering with her generic glass ceiling issues is still shitty. Not gonna lie, sucks to be an average white woman compared to an average white man and it is 99% average white man's fault, but when your dad murders your mom in front of you, your father in law sends the army after you, you are afraid you will kill people if you get mad or excited, you tried and failed to kill yourself, you had a hand in the robot apocalypse, you slip into a coma for 2 years as your second personality hijacks your life, you watch the land of gods die JUST IN TIME to get bodied by Thanos (and you know he had been saying to himself "I could have stopped him before he got the stones" all those years during the blip), and THEN failed to bring Natasha back to life while breaking his arm......................................yeah, no amount of Me Too hashtags is gonna level with that. I am sorry Jenn, your life is better than Bruce's. If you disagree, ask your dad to kill your mom and never have sex again out of fear your other self will kill OH WAIT YOU DON'T HAVE THAT ISSUE. (But seriously, the She Hulk show is great. This is just me telling a joke poorly).

Hulk is actually easier to render because he has more facial definition. He has wrinkles, stubble, depth of field because he wears glasses, etc. It's hard to do a female face because they are much smoother rendering the design smoother. Limiting texture. If she looked too textured her skin would look gross imo so it's a hard line to walk

Marvel decided to change things up by making another comedy where the every charcter is the comic relief.

I had a blast watching this series but it had issues for me and all those issues boil down to one single issue: the show didn't really have enough time to flesh anything out. I felt like I was watching a recap or a best bits video of a longer, really great She Hulk show. Like some fan on RU-vid took all their favorite clips and made a channel dedicated to it. And the ending implies the fault is the studio wanting them to shoe horn in a bunch of stuff they never wanted to include, like a blood plot or Hulk's Sakaar introduction, while also giving them only 9 half hour episodes, which is less than half the time their other tv shows got. So the writers just made a show that ending up being them telling the audience THEY WON'T LET US MAKE THE SHOW WE WANTED the entire time. Like I said, I enjoyed watching and there were things I loved. Some people hated that Matt was out of the suit in the last episode, but I loved to see him happily pretending he was her boyfriend at the bbq. I loved the supporting cast and I especially loved the (very little) actually lawyering we got. I wanted more and I want more. I hope they get a season 2 and I hope it's longer. I keep hearing critics yell about how these series are too long and the truth is that this is what happens when things are shortened when they either shouldn't or don't have to be. There was not enough time for them to do anything substantial in this series and it's an absolute shame because what we got was so fun. It was a "fun lawyer show" but we got maybe 2 episodes of actual lawyering, and we spend 5 episodes talking about her personal life, 2 of which are absolute filler and could be taken out. And it wouldn't feel that way if the episodes were longer or there were more of them. I think there is a major disconnect there between critics and most audience members, because the only people I hear asking for shorter seasons/episodes are critics, and I think it's because of the amount of media they are forced to consume. Most audience members are picky and have the time to dedicate to a 10-15 episode story arch, whereas critics feel compelled to watch everything because it's their job and that would get absolutely overwhelming. So anytime a professional film critic whines about episodes or seasons being too long, I honestly raise an eyebrow and dismiss it. For the people these studios make money off of (the audience, not the critics), it's not actually applicable. Anyway, loved the show despite obvious, fixable flaws. Want more. Season 2 please. More episodes please.

I'm still not sure how I felt about this. I wanted to like it but it was a bit meh. The middle of the series felt like it was a bit lost. And the end I thought started off clever but went a bit far and I started to just check out. Then I kinda wondered if I coukd take it seriously if they didn't seem to be. I could never get on with Daredevils new costume. Hated the yellow look in the comics too. And I wasn't ready for Charlie Cox's new lighter goofier portrayal of Matt Murdoch.

I liked it, not great by any means, rushed the start, ruined the end, but the character, dialogue and tone was exactly what I was hoping for. Also I'm excited to see what a second season decides to do. At the end of the day youve got two choices, you either see Daredevil doing the walk of shame and think 'that would be a fun throwaway panel in the comics' or you can think 'they ruined Daredevil'

The little podcast where the one writer who basically said she threw a huge tantrum and quit (but came back because her friend pleaded with Feige and I guess he didn't want to be ousted as a misogynist) over the K.E.V.I.N robot having a ball cap (which Feige didn't want because it didn't make any logical sense at all, like much of the series) basically summed up why I had issues with this show. If they had focused on the show making sense, it would have been fine to me. They can make whoever the enemy, they can poke fun at whatever they want like every other show does, I don't care...the issue was always the moments where they tried to show how much better she was/the plot just not making sense of why they went from point A to point B so quickly. If they went after writers who have shown they can write stories, this would have been a hit (even with the overdone jokes/cliché moments that Hollywood has been using for the last 8 years or so).

Extraordinary Attorney Woo was 16 episodes and it really was an incredible show from beginning to end. so I'm excited for 16 episodes of Daredevil

The Flash did make it into the Marvel universe in the comics He arrived with amnesia (if I remember correctly) & they named him "Buried Alien" in reference to his actual name "Barry Allen" 🤣

The homage to the Hulk show intro was basically just a stylised recap, as the final episode didn't have a recap. It's fun considering the tone and meta nature of the show and coz Jen was asleep

I liked all the fourth wall breaking, I just wish they were more consistent with them and had more in earlier episodes. Just like Ms Marvel I love the drawing animation stuff that was big in the first and last episodes but too little in the middle

This is the only channel I watch about superhero stuff, you always give the positives and negatives whilst not taking anything too seriously and having a laugh! There's way too many 'the quartering' types of channels out there that are insufferably negative that I'm glad there is something out there for sane people 🙏

I 1000% had several spy magazines as a kid and ordered gadgets from its catalogue. Sunglasses with mirrored sides so you could see behind you was the best, wish I still had them

My biggest complaint is that, with the way they handled the finale, nothing else in the show mattered. It really felt like a waste. Now I'm wondering if She-Hulk can do that whenever she wants. She never faced any real challenges throughout the season either.

I think that 70s intro was put at the start of the final episode because the previous episode was the only one that ended with She-Hulk being a rage monster. I don't think the intro works for regular woman but taller and greener She-Hulk.

I think the classic redone intro being at the beginning of the last episode made sense in a couple ways. 1. Hulk up until the MCU has been mostly portrayed as a "Monster" in film and TV, in this moment in she hulk she has just had her first public rage hulk moment, and the public and justice dept are seeing her as a monster. (Side note i also think this brilliantly ties back what bruce was warning about in the first episode) 2. I may be speaking for myself, but watching an intro for a super hero show always got me hyped, like in a sense of "Oh wow, the hero is gonna hero lets gooo", which then contrasts with the immediate next shot of her in the same cell blonsky was in.

I mean they _knew_ the writing was bad, but instead of hiring a script doctor, they just indulged in 4th wall breaking meta wankery for the ending. Come on guys, hire better writers! You have all the money in the world, you can afford it! Special effects aside (because I really empathize with the enslaved VFX artists), the character arcs were atrocious! How did her character evolve over time? She starts and ends the series as the exact same character. No evolution, no growth. The thing that made phases 1-3 of the MCU feel interesting was the character arcs between the movies.

I love the moniker "Root Rat". Hilarious.

To me the series didn't work because it failed to ever get me to like its main character. Now, I love She Hulk from the comics, but it felt like the only things they brought into the show were that she's funny and breaks the fourth wall. Aside from that, she came across to me as very selfish, insecure, and irresponsible, which is nothing like her comics counterpart. I was waiting for a character arc where she would learn from her mistakes and grow as a person, but that never happened.

Missed opportunity when Parks and Rec was mentioned to flash a clip of Tatiana Maslany’s guest appearance on the show 😆

It really was like Single Female lawyer 😂. I feel like them jumping away from any fight to them being arrested is similar to Moonknight skipping the final fight with Shaw.

I have questions about this Kevin robot. What is Age of Ultron? is it the Kevin robot trying to work out how its place in the world? good robot vs bad robot, is Vision a self insert character of the Kevin robot?

I wasn't a fan of a lot of it, but I have to say I loved the ending. We all have different opinions, and this is mine. I understand the criticism, I think most of it is valid, and some of it is just too much, but it is what it is. Would I like another season? Let's just say I think other shows could use the budget instead. Would I like to see more of She Hulk, both in series and movies. Yes.

My biggest gripe is how dirty they did they Wrecking Crew. Also, was that Edward Norton in the production meeting?

The Porcupine's redemption arc in Gruenwald's Captain America is one of the best superhero comics I've ever read.

There is a good show in there somewhere but the writing was painfully inconsistent. The first episode, the wong and blaze episode, and of course the Daredevil episode were really the only enjoyable ones. If it stuck to a self contained format with b list marvel characters getting into legal troubles I think it would be more successful. I'm excited to see her show up in a movie with better cgi and writers.

I think the difference between the Netflix Daredevil and this one (which is 18 episodes) is the Netflix series fell into the same trap as the Disney+ shows have been and they've been telling a single story stretched beyond it's breaking point. Since they're all out at once I guess the thinking was it should all follow a single story but the narrative couldn't sustain the full 13 episodes. There have been rumblings that they're going to take a page out of Andor's playbook and tell a bunch of different stories. Basically every few episodes would work as a movie focussing on different things. Maybe have one block of episodes around Kingpin. One could be a courtroom story. At least it's moving closer to being an actual TV series. Who made the decision that all these shows should be a single long form story?
