I dont agree with alot of these comments He did screwed Right from the gate he was Sandwiched by Mindframe and Number 8 so right from the start he was in trouble n most likely lost alot of ground And for the record he didn't hit the gate himself not even close so right at the point he's like Dead last So he straighted up then as he enters the turn Protective drift s into Sierra Leone a few times n That definitely distracted him n he logged in a little No horse likes to get bumped like he did so then he basically gets cut off by Protective So I dont know if it was done on purpose or it was a coincidence Tyler Gafflione happen to be riding Protective n I love Tyler Gafflione but will never know so Sierra Leone as bad as his trip he still closed very fast and hard n Only lost by little more than a length If the race would of been the usual mile and a half Sierra Leone wins no doubt .I'll never understand why there wasn't a inquiry by the stewards and Flavien Pratt n ,Chad Brown It makes me think the race was put on meaning no matter what Sierra Leone they didn't want to win because he was the Favorite But I blame Chad Brown for taking Tyler Gafflione off of Sierra Leone he knows the horse best he won 2 races n nearly 3 losing by a nose Pratt never rode him so he didn't know the horse I think Pratt waited to long to making his move n He ran out of ground But if there was no bumping at all Sierra Leone wins easily Hes definitely the best horse in the country or to 3. He's better than Mystic Dan Torpedo Ann Mindframe all of them He will be back n show all you doubters he's a beast a fighter n a Hell of a horse. So yes he got screwed End of discussion.
In the Belmont Stakes, this time Sierra Leone was the one getting bumped beginning right from the gate. For anyone who sees it differently, I suggest rewatching the race and see for yourself. Am I a big Sierra fan? Not at all. In this video, I clearly pointed out what took place every step of the race with an unbiased eye. What can't be denied is, SL is 2 noses and 1 1/2 lengths from being undefeated. He's only going to get better and it wouldn't surprise me if he wins both the Travers and the Breeders' Cup Classic with his huge closing kick. Think the male version of Zenyatta. Best, Al
If Chad Brown doesn't get that horse's ass end straightened out he ain't going to do any better than he's done so far he lugged in in the Bluegrass he lugged in in the Preakness and he was off in his right hind leg in the post parade of the Preakness which probably caused him to break bad in the Belmont cuz it looked to me like he broke off that leg and came to the inside where he definitely got bumped and after watching Tyler Gaffileone ride Maximum Securities race on War of Will and then watching him cut off Mongolian Groom in the Breeders Cup Rocky's right hand leg and was put down), who knows he may have done that on purpose because he got took off the mount he needs to be flagged on several instances but nobody seems to be looking....
Exactly! Sierra Leone screwed up all over the place in this race the Belmont. Stumbled at the gate went hard left turning into stretch smashed into Tyler Gaff Leonne‘s horse, the 21 shot that you mentioned that you said you didn’t know who it was. how do you not know who it is, if you’re presenting a video. And then, even with the new bit and Prat, Sierra Leone lugs in hard.
Rewatch the stretch run in the Derby. It was Forever Young who began cutting into Sierra Leone first. Multiple times. If not for that, Sierra wins the Kentucky Derby. He's simply the better closer and Forever Young was never going by him. Best, Al
@@jjdog7159 Sierra Leone was off in his right hind leg in the post parade for the Preakness which may explain some of his lugging in and especially when he come out of the gate he would drift to the opposite front leg and remember he did not want to load in the gate in the Bluegrass.... horses are not stupid they know when they have something wrong with them it's just their caretakers and trainers. & owners THATdon't see it!( remember they paid 2.3 million for him. ..) I think Chad Brown needs to look at his ass end a little better and that's probably why all Brown's best wins are on the turf.... and I figured that out when I was in California working on horses ass ends & backs that most of them don't run well on the dirt they run better on the turf....
Sierra Leone is a real good horse he was running against a speed favoring track he was still was coming at the wire. I will bet him this summer he will win a lot of races.
Tyler was on the Pletcher maiden that bumped Sierra Leone turning for home not only did he cost him a placing he got even with Chad brown. Maidens shouldn't be allowed to race I grade 1 classic races!!!!!
Good horses do not need any excuses. They normally overcome adversity. Jockeys can make mistakes and errors in judgement and cost the race. EG, Mike Smith on Zenyatta making her move too late, lost by a nose to Blame. . Shoemaker thinking he won the race and stood up and lost a major race ( I forgot which one). Prat knows his business. So SL hit the gate. It happens. Did he make an error in judgement by moving too late? What were his instructions from CB? It is unfortunate that speed held up all day. I would say it was a huge error in judgement to move him too late. They paid a lot of money for SL despite his paddling left foot so obviously that was not a concern. SL got beat fair and square because Dornoch's connections most likely had their horse in tip top shape and took advantage of the speed bias.
Haha Zenyatta NEVER gets by Blame in that race. Watch again. Garret took Blame out to center of track after he put away LAL. Watch the run out as well. Blame a Monster
Good observation and nice historical knowledge of the Thoroughbred breed @silosvince. The race you were referring to regarding Shoemaker was the 1957 Belmont on Gallant Man and lost to Calumet's Iron Leigh when he stood up prematurely thinking he won the race. What a class that was with that excellent racehorse and sire, Gallant Man. Also in that class was Secretariats sire, Bold Ruler, who came in, I believe, third behind Gallant Man in that race. The distance was too much for Bold Ruler. Also in that class was Northern Dancer's sire, Nearctic, who although usually lost to Bold Ruler in the sprint races but had the lead on him early on. By the way, Shoemaker was man enough and took the blame for Gallant Man's loss.
He is a great horse but your comment makes no sense if what you said is true That good horses need no excuses to then why is Ther inquirys n if a horse gets bumped or something else it effects the outcome I don't care how great they are So you can be a doubter of Sierra Leone but he's the best n will prove it In my eyes he's undefeated lost 2 races by inches n this one lost only because of Tons of bumping n no inquiry they just didn't want him to win.N. I can't just blame the jockey alone Yes he did wait to long before making his move but the sandwiched at the gate definitely threw him off course n he Didn't HIT THE GATE AT ALL HE WAS CRUNCHED BY 2 HORSE'S MINDFRAME AND NUMBER 8. THEN TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE ATOUND THE TURN BEND PROTECTIVE CLEARLY DRIFTED OVER A FEW TIMES N CUT SIERRA LEONE OFF SO HE HAD TO GO IN THE MIDDLE PATH RIGHT THERE WAS A BLATENT FOUL BIG-TIME THAT SLOWED HIM UP AGAIN BUT SINCE HES SUCH A GREAT HORSE A FIGHTER A BEAST A WARRIOR HE ALMOST WON LONGER RACE LIKE USUAL MILE AND A HALF SIERRA LEONE WINS EASILY GOING AWAY I'm not big on Dornach it was a fluke n Mindframe needs more experience Sierra Leone will be back in time just watch and see.Only thing I wanna say Chad Brown made a huge mistake by switching jockeys Tyler Gafflione is a great Jockey and knows the horse very well he win 3 races and lost 2 by a nose Why would you change Jockeys at that point Horses know the Jockey n knows when there is someone else riding. Both are great jockeys Pratt and Gafflione but I think it had Alot to do with His Trip but Also all the Fouls and banging did contribute to his bad trip .I know everyone has a different opinion n that's k But My Dad has been Watching n Handicapping Horse racing for a very long time Hes 88 years old but looks grest for his age he thinks Sierra Leone definitely got bumped a few times and it should of been a Inquiry n Objection he said it makes no sense It's so clear to anyone with average vision It's starting to get Phony in some way not Fair If you watch it real slow it's so obvious that the bumping was a huge foul n it. Changed the outcome.I can't understand why the Jockey or Trainer didn't do anything they said Alot that Sierra Leone got banged n Sandwiched from the gate but talk means nothing I'm very disappointed in these races and outcomes If your aloud to just intentionally drift over n cut the horse off n Team up with another horse and crunch him to gain advantage then something is Strange out there.Ive said enough I'm very bothered about this Alot of my close Family and friends are disturbed with no action being taken at all Richie Miggliore he was a former great Jockey in Ny n now a Announcer on America's Day at the races was troubled by it also .
Not this time, Jean. Even with the slight gate problem, the other horses were guilty of bumping into him. Those bumps were the difference in the outcome, which was still close.
Chad Brown is a crybaby He was blaming the racing officials for the speed bias a day before He wins more than his share of races and should shut the hell up
Did Sierra Leone get screwed in the Belmont? The question should be. Did Forever Young get screwed in the Kentucky Derby?? Tyler Gaffilione should have been suspended. He bumped Forever Young 5 times! Maybe they didn't want a Japanese horse win the Kentucky Derby!
Yeah, he didn't get to run a real Belmont Stakes over 12F at Big Sandy. I mean seriously, saying running 10F on the dirt at Saratoga is a win in the Belmont Stakes is like saying on the first Saturday in May, 2025, the top 3YO will race over a mile on dirt at Keeneland and the victor will be crowned the Kentucky Derby winner. Theoretically, the principle is the same.
Good recap. The old GOTCHA I hope will haunt Brown who said HE GOT SLAMMED and never said a thing about the lousy ride by over rated Prat. What comes around, goes around. Sad for the horse.
Well if he's off like he was in the Preakness post parade in his right hind leg that would explain why he's not right in his left front and as big as he is I don't think he's going to last much longer something will go Haywire
@@theanonymouscomic8106 well if you seen him in the post parade in the Preakness I'm sure you would have noticed he was off in his right hind leg and that would definitely have caused him to lug in.... but if he was paddling badly in the left front leg and it was bothering him he wouldn't be in his left lead and he never did switch to his right lead till he got to the 8th Pole
@@theanonymouscomic8106 well I can see that you HAVE never trained or shod race horses.... but I'm glad I don't have $2.3 million invested in that horse
I thought it wasn't a smart move to change jocks, but it might of been the owners pushing Chad. They blamed Tyler for the second place finish, but Tyler did the best he could. These guys are tough, but they are literally perched on a horses back and don't have the leverage to correct a horse that runs on his forehand. The best they can do is use a whip and hope the horse obeys the rein command. They can't use their seat nor back effectively to move over a horse like that.SL is a bull. All I hear when I see him run is, the Ludacris song "move bi$ch, get out da way."
My take is as follows. The rider does not make the horse hit the side of the gate, usually. The assistant can sometimes cause that, but I didn't see that. The horse was not standing squarely in the gate for what ever reason when the gate opened and he hit the side of the gate causing him to lunge in and into the 8 horse, Honor Marie, who was forced into the 7 horse, Protective. Honor Marie lost all chance at that point. The 10 horse Mindframe did not come in at the start, so was not involved in this at all. Then. Flavien Pratt kept Sierra Leone around 3 paths off the rail all the way around. I heard that the rail had become deep by this time of day, so maybe that's why Flavien kept him so far off the rail. At the head of the stretch, when Sierra Leone was launching his bid, the 7 horse, Protective with Tyler Gaffalione (coincidence???) came out (Tyler was pulling on the outside rein) and bumped Sierra Leone, carrying him out and stopping his momentum. IMO, this is where he lost the race. Flavien then hit Sierra Leone left handed (outside) which started him getting in. Sierra Leone lunged past Tyler/Protective and ducked in front of Tyler/Protective and Protective almost clipped his heels. Sierra Leon continued to lug in, bumping several other horses that were tiring. This is what I saw watching the race. I think Sierra Leone is his own worst enemy and causes a lot of his own problems. That said, come from behind horses almost always have to navigate a whole mine field of potential obstacles. I think Sierra Leone is a really talented horse, but the most talented horse doesn't always win. On this Day, Dornoch was the best horse. He really ran a great race, and Mindframe is one to watch. I'm climbing down from my soapbox now. Thank you for your indulgence. 😁
Your nuts don't know what race you were watching he didn't hit the gate bull He was sandwiched by Mindframe and Number 8 Then Around the turn Protective drifted into him like 3 times n cut him off He really didn't logg in n if he did a little it's because of the bumping By protective I disagree with you totally he's the best n he will show all you doubters I can't wait As bad as his trip he still almost won if race was usual mile and a half Sierra Leone wins going away he's wayyy better than Mystic Dan Mindframe Dornach all of them He's number 1 Only horse that might be better Muth
Sierra Leone was 8 wide up the backstretch because Tyler on Protective kept him out there. Tyler refused to drop over and save some ground. Watch the replay the rail was wide open up the backside.
@@NChan-hg2hy I did watch the replay and it's hard to determine exactly how far out Flavien had Sierra Leone out from the rail. I agree he did not attempt to save any ground, but the word is the rail had gotten very deep. Thanks for sharing your view. Isn't horse racing a great game?
@gooeybeast174 I miss watching her run. Love the way she beat Gio Ponti in the 2009 Breedeers Cup Classic. She almost was undefeated. I read somewhere Mike Smith was remiss on his judgement
I didn’t like making all the changes on a horse that was 3 wins and two seconds in 5 races and these were not easy races .But I don’t know for sure that you can blame the rider the track was obviously favoring speed horses and not the deep closers that’s why I threw a win bet on Dornoch right before the start of the race and I considered him a toss .
You want Chad to apologize to Tyler? Tyler did all he could to screw Sierra Leone. Watch the race up the backside, Tyler kept Protective 6 wide just to keep Sierra Leone from dropping over. The rail was wide open. He packed him 9 wide turning for home and a bump for good measure. It seems like he was more concerned about Sierra Leone than his own mount. He probably won't ride much more for Brown in the future.
It was SL rider bad judgement NOT running along the rail approaching and beginning the final turn. All kind of spacing along the rail at that spot. The start out of the gate was NOT the factor losing. The wide turn was a major mistake.
Serrie Leone needs to find the rail . Hes definitely a rail horse . He can't runs straight once he turned for home. That awkward left front foot cause him to logged inside. The riders need to find the rail once the gate open.
Dont know what ur watching. S.l.didnot get sandwiched at gate by the 10 n 8. He hit the 8 going left hard. Alittle problem with protective around turn but once he pasted protective he leaned in again hit the next horse who inturn hit the 8 again hard. His problem of leaning in not fixed and got 3rd. On a track defeatly favoring speed. He probally still a good horse a mile n half would of been bettter. 100 buyers in all 3 winning classics show no great 3yr olds yet. End of story.
Physical speed potential shows a variation range within a gene line. But survival instinct is primary and dominant in all animals surviving. When evoked that makes horses run, and try to run faster than the next horse so not to be the one the Lion takes down. At least 4 colts have repeatedly shown that instinctive will to win. Big Time! SL is one. Mindframe and Dornoch too. Breeder gold. Compulsively competitive owners like Repole value that. Make our world and racing business go round. IMO. JVM.
No way, didn't deserve to win the Derby either. In the Derby his own jockey blew it. Dornoch beat Sierra Leone in the Remsen, one of the best races of 2023.
First lost ground getting bumped out of the gate. Prat never saved ground. Went very wide on the turns. Lugged in turning for home. Obviously Saratoga turns much sharper than sweeping turns at Belmont Park. Finally bad luck that the race was one and a quarter rather than a mile and a half. Wins easy at a mile and a half. Brown will look for a different jock in the Travers.
Steven, and still Sierra nearly won the race. It'll be interesting what jock Brown turns to for the Travers and then BC. Agreed, he wins by open lengths at 1 1/2. Best, Al
It appears that at least in the Belmont that Sierra was the one being bumped right from the start. In the Derby, he was the one doing the bumping though. Best, Al
Speed horses were winning all day. Dornoch had the fastest early fractions, got out of the gate clean and the rest is history. With the way the track was playing you had to be concerned that the race might be over before Sierra Leone could get going.
The pace was not strong enough. Once Fierceness got scratch the pace would nor be there. The fractions had to be 46 and change for him to close and win.It just wasn't there.
Not even close-if the jockey Platt felt there was interference then he can and should have claimed it when he had a chance. I think Chad knows more about racing than you and I really don't think he's going to apologize. Your opinion he got screwed mine-no he didn't get screwed and Chad hasn't said he felt that. Sorry I wasted my time on a horse racing conspiracy theory.
If you watched the video until the end, I said my decision was that Sierra Leone didn't get screwed. However, he was interfered with right from the start. Best, Al
Pratt was dead before gate opened! And did not even make it look good! Bad actors this crew! Real players who love the till money. Forget the purse, forget the owners, and the public, they been getting COPPERED since gid knows when, and this will continue! Nobody fucks with the skim!
If you watch all three he ran the same race in all three he beats his self riding on inside horses all the way down the stretch probably would have got dq if he did win
Sierra Leonne in the Blue Grass refused to load for like over 3 minutes while the rest of the field sat there with weight. The whole field was gased before the gate opened. SL should have been scratched for refusing to load in a timely manner. The horse has serious gate issues bad. SL has a very bad habit of leaning into other horses also. The horse is overrated as his win in the Blue Grass was a throw out reasons I stated. Flavan Prat is way better then Tyler Galfleone by a mile. Tyler lost the Kentucky Derby it's all business. Bigger question is why Brown couldn't get Irad for SL or maybe he didn't want to ride him. Another thing is how would the KY Derby turned out if Muth was allowed to run. I think Muth would have had a shot at the Triple Crown and Churchill didn't want that so they extended Bafferts suspension screwing Muth. But no way did SL get screwed ultimately the issue with blame on the rider change falls on Chad Brown.
Yea he did get screwed big-time Sandwiched bumped a million times no inquirys why's that if that's not getting screwed I don't know what is You people don't know Horse racing Sierra Leone is the best n will prove it I can't wait so you doubters can look dumb.
I said in conclusion of the video that I didn't think Sierra Leone got screwed. However, during the course of the video I pointed out how other horses crashed into him, beginning coming right out of the gate! #8 and #10 both cut into his path and banged him. Rewatch and see for yourself. Best, Al
None of the inside 11 horses inside the 12 in k.d. went 4 the lead. Had the k.d. ex. In Preakness only s.t.g. went 4 lead after bob b. Said imagination not going 4 lead. Had both luckas horses in Preakness and won again. Just steel better than s.t.g. go ask luckas just that j.s. broke leg in race. Had only speed the 6 with the 2 closers 8 n 9 i lost. Only speed types dangerous in races. Horse frm japan almost beat all our best 3yr olds in country. And he didnt even like kickback. Lets c what our 3yr olds turn into moving 4ward.
excellent analysis...that poor gate start killed SL and put him in a spot he never recovered...same as Kentucky Derby..horse bumping caused him to go wide...sadly if it was the normal 1 1/2 mile SL would have caught Dornoch. Dornoch got the perfect trip, Mindframe with more experience would have won the race. I agree with you that the jockey change hurt SL. I think SL will continue to improve and look forward to seeing it in the next G1 race..as for Dornoch, I still think it's an average horse that benefited from others problems. But that's horse racing!
Agreed, alcw. I see better coming from Sierra Leone moving forward in the Travers and perhaps the Breeders' Cup. I'm curious to see who rides him in his next race. Also, I'm not sold on Dornoch. There are multiple better 3-year-olds out there who are simply faster. Including Sierra Leone. Best, Al
Sierra Leone is a victim of his racing style. The best horse won the Belmont, no horse was going by Dornoch. I believe no horse will beat him the rest of the year now that he has figured out how to rate and how to change leads. Everyone will say he needs the lead but I think his best race will be sitting behind the speed and pouncing once it backs up. Two more wins and he will be HOY for 3 year olds and maybe for all ages if one win comes in the Classic.
@charleslockhart6778 I agree with you that Dornoch would have won at 1 1/2 miles that day. He was on point, and his bloodlines would carry him that distance. Grandsire Curlin and nice he made up for his dam's sire Big Brown loss in the Belmont. My bad I gave up on him. I had an ex SL /mindframe and a tri SL/MF/seize the grey. Hope you did better. Hehehe
I don't know about that, Charles. Dornoch is a nice horse but there are better 3-yos out there. Sierra Leone being one of them. It wouldn't surprise me is he takes both the Travers and Breeders' Cup given his closing kick and the other early pace horses he'll be facing. The 3-year-old division is up for grabs wight now. Best, Al
@allhorseracingallthetime you've got it backwards. If Sierra Leone had not ran into Forever Young, Force Young would've won the Derby. Serious Leone slowed Forever Young down, not the other way around. Sierra Leone had lost two races. Forget Young only lost one because of SL. It's true.
This guy is the worst. He does not know how to analyze a recap. First of all Sierra Leone bumped the #10 and then proceeded to bump the # 8. Sierra Leone caused all the trouble. This guy definitely had a bet on this horse and loss😂. I wonder what his thoughts were on the derby. If a horse that deserves a video is how Sierra Leone screwed the #11 Foreveryoung
No he didn't your nuts Mindframe and Number 8 ,Sandwiched him big-time he never hit the gate watch slow mo. Then Around the turn the bend Protective clearly drifts into Sierra Leone like 3 times and cuts him off So of course that's gonna throw the horses direction off but as great as he is he still finds a lane in the middle n Closes so fast and hard he almost wins if the race was the usual mile and a half He wins easily going away He definitely got screwed It was so obvious that Ther were many Fouls against Sierra Leone Right from the gate set him back n he lost alot of ground Then the turn was terrible but that's k They just didn't want him to win It was fixed against him Because he was the favorite n Why can't onone explain why no inquiry or objections He's the best He will prove it to all you doubters N I can't wait He's great fighter beast My kind of horse To me he's undefeated.
No he didn't Forever young drifted first into Sierra Leone are you kidding me you need stronger vision I guess allllll the handicappers and Race announcers don't know what thr talking about because everyone said Forever young intiated the contact first end of story you must like Japanese horses Sierra Leone would destroy Forever young in a rematch Where was forever young in the Belmont I thought so knew he didn't have a chance at all Stay in Japan
Rewatch the race theonecm. I displayed it every step of the way right from the gate. #8 and #10 clearly moved into #9 and squashed him. And, Forever Young was never going to beat Sierra Leone in the Derby. Sierra was moving much faster at the end.
Rewatch the race. This time Sierra Leone was clearing the one getting bumped. I displayed it every step up the video, beginning right from the gate. Best, Al
No he didn't get screwed he just lost because he isn't the kind of horse that everybody thinks he is, he is a nice horse but he makes his own problems.
start costs the horse 3 -4 lengths but with distance a 1/4 mile shorter way race was ran in slow mo he should of been 2nd if not won i think race should of been mile an a half but tracks not configured for that i hope if anything NYRA can resolve the issue personally AQUECT might had been a bigger track running instead of SARATOGA now thats just my thought
From how quickly Sierra was gaining late, I agree with just a little less bumping he likely wins and obviously wins going away at 1 1/2. Hopefully, Belmont construction is completed in time for the 2026 running of the Belmont Stakes back at 1 1/2. Best, Al
