For the stone guard on the front of the trailer, you could have tried Flex Seal instead of the rubber mat. On the yellow part of the frame try using vinegar and then the rust converter and spray that with Flex Seal after it has time to dry. For putting up posters try rubber cement. Paint the edges of the roof to see if it wears.

To attach posters, get some Scotch Reusable Mounting Putty. It is white, gummy, and holds a poster in place until you are ready to pull it down and use the putty again. Walmart, Target, Amazon. Enjoying your videos. Thank you!

RU-vid randomly recommended me one of your videos, so I've been binge watching them. This is one of the most informative videos I've seen in quite awhile, in general. Mainly due to how you mention each topic, show (and link) which video it came from, and then how it held up. Very well done, charismatic, nice personality and great editing.

Hey Slim! Enjoying your videos. We bought a used A-frame camper last year and have been really enjoying both camping with it, and modifying it to suit us. (A Chalet Aurora). We also have a boat that gets put in and out of salt water, so frame rust is a constant issue. I finally attacked it with a wire attachment on an angle grinder, and then used spray rustolium paint. Just a little touch up every year or two seems to keep the rust at bay. Thanks for all your unique ideas!
@SOFISINTOWN
@SOFISINTOWN 5 лет назад
Instead of painting with regular paint to prevent rust, maybe you can use the rubber-paint, which is for truck beds. It is much thicker, and the rubber texture will fend off rock chips better. But it only comes in black and maybe dark grey color. Not sure if you could spray-paint it with a color of your choice after it is dry. Thanks for all the great videos!

I don't own an A liner, but find your videos applicable to my rig and future ideas for a possible pop up camper I want to build. I second the bed liner idea for the frame and possibly plasti dip, but I think what you did worked pretty well. Maybe just repeat again.

Your evaluation after some time has passed is more valuable than the original video of each project. Things like the glue gun sure seemed reasonable at the time, but who could guess that it would fail? Glad to hear that Command Strips work for you. The only place that they let me down was on the overhead. Entertaining video!

You could have a fabrication shop make a custom-fit shield that could slide over the front of the hitch area (between the jack and the propane tanks, and that could also double up for storage. If that's where the battery goes have them make a custom cover that is basically a box, that could bolt underneath into the A-frame of the hitch. Or better yet, just have someone fabricate a custom box that goes over the tank and hitch crank (ie. basically a box that can clamp or bolt to the A-frame portion. This would make it nice and hide everything, AND protect that part of the hitch and the tank, battery, etc. You could even integrate storage into such a thing. It may not be cheap (maybe $500-1000) but it would be a nice addition to the trailer, with a purpose).

good work mate on showing what worked and what didn't. I know I get some rather 'constructive' feedback on my projects that I share. I find it is often from people who have not actually tried it for themselves. Like you, I much prefer to test out a theory for myself and find out in the field it it turns out ok. Whilst I don't expect you to admit it publicly, it must be nice to be able to go back and say 'i told you so ' :)

Coming from a life long snowmobiler the only thing you can do to prevent rust on your steel trailer is to buy and aluminum one. I’ve put 4 coats of paint on my previous steel trailers and the rock chips and salt combination will always cause rust.

And black! That construction yellow color doesn't look right without a Caterpillar label. BTW, Project Farm did a review of several brands of truck bed liner, worth watching as some are markedly better than others for specific uses.
@volvo09

Old comment, but I'd be careful with thick hard coatings like that... Unless you get it on when the metal is brand new you'll still have rust occouring underneath and it can make things worse over time. Look up the damage that rubberized undercoating does to frames over time... it seems like a good idea, but once that rust continues underneath the coating just holds in the moisture and lets the rust go crazy. Maybe truck bed liners breathe and don't let this happen, but I figured I'd give a warning.

Slim, I so enjoy your ingenuity and the fun you have at life. Here is a tip to stop rust permanitely (you may need to remove old paint first.) This is the stuff PDR 15 Rust Preventative Coating. 1 quart. can be found on Amazon. A note: can be applied w a paintbrush, be sure to use saran wrap under the lid otherwise it will be impossible to open it again! ✌

I think the solution for your enamel paint on your hitch would probably be some roll on bed liner she protected from the elements as well from chipping off from rocks which you'd probably put over top of your rubbing liner as well that is now cracking to seal it watertight as a while as added protection.

For the rust and chip prevention look into a product called por15 for a coat directly on the metal. Then you must cover that with a tuff paint or epoxy type paint. I would then cover that with under coat which is a little like lite truck bed liner. Bed liner is heavy.

I wonder if you could add wider, longer to the ground mud flaps to stop the rocks before they hit your frame. Maybe install a skirt along the bumper that hangs down across the entire back of the vehicle. I am similar to you. I try something and if it doesn't work I try again. No drama, no regrets just work it out til you get what you want. Great channel.
