Rob, putting a commentary over the time lapse really raises the quality of your videos. You’re up there with the very best, Wednesdays and Saturdays have never been so good.
I has been the coldest Spring in 10 years down south, the hoodie was needed with the north-easterly breeze for sure. You're right, he's quick - he's getting the next Merc dash lol
These were very affordable when new, £8399 for a basic model - £10499 for the top of the range model with leather interior. Our local dealer regularly had brand new ones for less than the list price.
Mate, you don't need to justify, its clear over the last few years of watching the channel that you guys have the highest levels of integrity and honesty. I`m no mechanic, but I watch to appreciate the level of skill and transparency in doing business.
Saic stands for shanghai automotive industry corporation. biggest car manufactory in china. started as a car repair shop in 1910 in shanghai now partners and produces gm , vw cars.
Hi lads. The work is easy for you as you do it every day, I've been a builder for over 20 years and all the work I do is easy, don't go woke and apologise. Hope everyone enjoys there sunny weekend.
No need to explain why the car isn't available to buy. Good job and it is a nice car. What an amazing gesture to arrange to get the car to your mother-in-law. Happy birthday to her as well.
I Enjoy nothing more than watching a good RU-vid video on a day off I’m surprised you guys have not been approached by a TV production company As I mentioned in the last video, Chris’s new found confidence is fantastic to watch. Another top draw video both 👍
What a quick transformation job done on the MG3. It is nice to hear that it is off to Family and makes a Great Present. I look forward to seeing the next Project Vehicle for the Channel.
As Always Rob/ Chris pure gentlemen, lovely car to give to the Mum and as an added bonus its her Birthday, total respect for you guys. Loved the Video aswell.
I do not understand people saying it is wrong to say a task is easy. As an example to fit a set of tracks on an Abbot SPG is extremely heavy but if you know what you are doing it is easy if tiring. It is obvious Chris knows what he is doing and often makes a job look a lot easier than it probably is. I am retired and disabled but I still know/ how to do certain jobs from memory. I could tell you how to fit a gearbox into a centurion with the Rolls-Royce Meteor. The non supercharged Merlin. Sorry if it is boring but some things you just do not forget. :)
I think it's the amount of work needed for a given task, all that disassembly for a simple part replacement, like removing a wing on a Renault to replace a lightbulb.😎
Great little car , well done guys ,great to see you helping your family out. I've been watching a while ,you really don't have to justify what your doing with it . You guys are so genuine, you help so many people out and always ask fair money for an excellent job . Your both so genuine. Keep up the great work .
Great little car Rob. Nice decision on the new owner....right to put family first. Well done to Rob and of course to Chris. Nobody does the matrix like Chris. Cheers, Bob
I did hundreds of these on Maestro Vans in the 80s/90s ... It looks like nothing improved when MG Rover was sold to Nanjing Automobile/SAIC in 2006/7 by McBlair/McBrown/McDarling ...
Bloody lot of work for the heater matrix. I did one back in the early 90’s on my old escort with one from a scrap yard. It took about 45 mins and no more than 6 screws. I’m not a mechanic.
Sure you could have sold it for a profit but you do have to consider keeping the family happy. Seems like a good choice for the mum. You and Chris did a nice job and a bit of 'sweat equity' into it. Too bad you had to degas the a/c but your trade connections and on the other work held the cost down.
Another great job Rob , is there. Nothing Chris can't do top man , Great idea to give it to the mother in law , you guys did the work , And family comes first , 👍👍
Heater core replacement...the universally hated job by every mechanic in the world! Chris made the job look like nothing, but I think he could make brain surgery look like child's play too. Great set of priorities giving it to a family member instead of just flipping it. You're both good men with your priorities straight.
S.A.I.C is the name of the Chinese owner of MG. They are actually the largest car making in China. They also do work for VW., Skoda, Buick, and many other brands. Their Wu Ling mini car is the best seller in China.
Rob the time and effort you put into repairing these little cars is mind blowing. I can’t help thinking that after 2030, the value of this type of salvage and reclamation work on (pre-electric) is going to skyrocket..
Good little Car, Rob,if that ULEZ Comes into play, I'm Guessing it will Cover Your Location, How will affect you? , all the Different Vehicles & Here there everywhere fir the Parts Etc
Good too see proper handbrake, beware if u do a HS model make sure u apply electric handbrake as they don't auto engage when turning off the ignition, like other manufacturers do
Family is family Rob , & family comes first . Nice little car , great video . Looking forward to the next one . Oh and if the job is easy to you guys just say it's easy , that is what you do , & you do it every day . I work for a car manufacture and to me my job is very easy because i'm used to it .
Totally applaud the whole production this time. Yes, it was a-spanners-by-numbers-game and a lovely no-nonsense fault and fix. Time-consuming with all the bolts to pull and return to their homes, but what a lovely sounding little engine. I know my hearing can leave a lot to be desired, but when you were speaking having left it running, I thought you made a mistake and had switched it off. If you cannot support the family at no cost to the partnership, who can you look after?
this car is what i call an '' '' ebay special '' '', perfect for guys like you to buy cheap and put the effort and reap the reward, but to stripping a car to that extent, bollox to that. well done guys. not seen end of vid yet but hopefully a decent profit in that one
Well done Rob, no better outcome for this little runabout. Just changing the subject, I heard McDonalds are stopping disposable coffee beakers. You'll have to take a reuseable one in. What are you going to do for your nuts and bolts?
I think that model was the older style engine, they revamped it to Euro 5 or something with stop start etc and then shortly after that MG pulled out of Longbridge and closed it down.
Rob do you mind sharing what branch of A2 tyres did you use for the alignment ? As I would like to take my car there for the alignment. Keep tha cameras rolling great content as always
That's such a lovely thing to do. Couple of quid each and she's got a nice little run about. Charity begins at home, just goes to show with the bumper you need to think things through before going at it like a bull in a China shop! Still a good little series 👌👍
Lot of people slagging off these motors, but for someone on a tight budget it is the ideal solution, they were not dear new! Great content and another vehicle rescued from the crusher and going to a good home👍😎 23:04
hello Rob & Chris, I so enjoy watching your videos! What a great little car which has been sorted out in a proper way! A grand car for your relative, a special birthday gift!! WELL DONE !! best wishes from Lincolnshire
Giving the car to Claire's mum is a great gesture, no-one here is going to get peeved at that, Love the new parts getter, I saw the original video of the bike... Nice👌...I look forward to seeing you coming back with a bumper strapped across the tank 🤣
The one on my 205GTI slid out to the RHS of the heater while still in the car and would have been even easier on a LHD one without the column getting in the way. Had a 306 XSI after it and its heater matrix failed twice, the first while still under warranty. That was a dash out job.
Great video, and a fantastic outcome. I hope Claire's Mum enjoys her new car, and has a very happy birthday.I changed a dashboard in an Astra mk 2, and they are pretty similar attachment wise, but I imagine that the MG dash is much sturdier than the cardboard type material the Astra's was made of. 🤣
Brilliant guys well done can’t believe the mess from the leaking of the heater matrix but well done for finding the issue your family gonna love this little run around 👍🏽👍🏽bless ya this is what I love about you guys always thinking of others 👍🏽👍🏽what a lovley thing to do
SAIC is an abbreviation (so S.A.I.C.) - Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation. The new MG might have no relation to the MG of old - but they seem decent cars.
Well I hope it's not like Chinese Motorcycles. My son had one for his first bike and after 3 years it needed a new front downpipe for the exhaust.... Phoning the dealer who supplied it.... New down pipes no longer available.... welded patches over the holes to keep it on the road and at four years old it was sold on eBay as spares or repair.... Many Volkswagen cars suffer from heater problems too due to the bags of silica crystals splitting and effectively blocking the heater matrix. if you can live with a cold heater on diesel cars, that's ok until it goes into D.P.F. Regen mode and then it blows all the engine's coolant out of the expansion bottle. If your heater still works as it should and the bottle is marked "Mit silikat" take the bottle off the car and throw the silikat bag inside it into the bin. Don't try to do it with the bottle on the car because if it splits it'll introduce the silikat into the coolant system. How do I know? well it just cost me over 300 pounds to have the heater matrix replaced and the cooling system thoroughly flushed
I remember doing my partners Toyota Yaris heater matrix, was a simple but lengthy job! A days work to remove and reinstall dash, 30 seconds to remove and replace the matrix! What a faff!
MG used to stand for Morris Garages now its SAIG MOTORS - sign of the times I guess! That heater matrix looked like a lot of work not something I'd want to try! Nice little cheap car due to a few cosmetic bits but sounds just the job for its new owner.
enjoyed this one, guess i like the AFFORDABLE range of your fixes,if you get more of these type of cars ie £2grand might be nice to mix em in with your regular stuff (posh N vans)...on another note its crazy why car engineers design heater boxes that are just not fixable without ripping dashes out
Rob ,, fair play to you , I knew it wasn't gonna get sold to anyone ,, as you say family come first before anyone ,, it's a classic little car ,, happy driving to its new owner ,, enjoy many more miles in Mandy 👌👍😉
Great video Rob. Woohoo 🙌 Chris on a dash removal lol 😆 So you should give any car to whoever you like Rob. You’ve both done so much to help others and family is no different 👏🏻
Fair play to you Rob , the business is between you and Chris , us lot are just watchers , so why shouldn't you sort yourselves out first ? nice one chapz
Citroen zx same problem puts a film on the inside of the windscreen with antifreeze making it impossible to drive. Complete dash out had trouble getting anyone to do the job.
